The Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Wednesday, August 5, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, August 5. In the previous episode, Phyllis lied to Jack about Sally admitting she and Tara sent Summer away, to get Jack to confront Tara. In this episode, Tara spins the story to throw Sally under the bus, while Kyle tries to get Summer to admit she was forced to leave him, and Victoria says yes to Ashland’s proposal.
Once in their suite, Nick reminds Phyllis they’re partners in crime. She doesn’t need to hide what she was doing on her laptop. Phyllis says Tara’s holding back her financials from Lauren. Nick thinks she’s reaching. Why does that matter? “They got Al Capone on tax evasion, so whatever it takes, okay?” Nick thinks the DA’s wife will enjoy hearing that she’s hacking into Tara’s accounts. Phyllis puts her hands up. She hasn’t done anything yet. “But trust me, I’ll get in. You can count on that.” Just finding out what they did to Summer might not be enough to “take those girls down,” she says. “He forgave her once. He’ll probably do it again and he’ll go easy on Tara,” Phyllis tells Nick about Jack. They can’t count on the Abbotts. She doesn’t know why their daughter isn’t fighting for herself, Phyllis says, almost in tears. She starts hacking. It’ll take a few minutes and they can expose Tara.
At the Abbott’s, Tara has a meltdown. “Somebody is lying about me.” Jack’s main concern is her, not Phyllis or Tara. He’s not accusing her of anything. He’s inviting her to trust him enough to tell the truth. He has the sense there was something she wanted to tell him. He’s not judging. He’s hurt people and isn’t proud but he is proud of the moments he took responsibility. “Not everyone is compassionate as you are,” she says. Jack’s sure that her husband wasn’t compassionate with her when she admitted to her affair. Tara talks about knowing Kyle wasn’t ready to be a father when they were together. He was more mature and ready to settle down when they met again. She admits it was hard to see. Their timing was off but she locked up her feeling. She tried to be happy for him and Summer. Sally guessed what she was feeling and pushed her to go after what she wanted, “What Harrison deserved. And she said she had a plan.” Jack’s livid. Tara uses the mother card. She’d have done anything to give her son two parents. Sally had the idea to make Summer disappear.

At Crimson Lights, Summer video calls Kyle. His message was cryptic but they said their goodbyes. It’ll make it harder for them to move on. “Wait, so this is harder for you, too,” He says. He thinks Sally had something to do with it and says more evidence is coming out about this daily. “Phyllis won’t stop and your dad is getting suspicious. The truth is going to come out. I think I deserve to hear it from you.” Kyle misses her. Summer misses him too but for his own sake, she says he needs to stop coming up with these alternative scenarios. He asks if she’s worried he might lose Harrison. Summer asks why he’d say that. “It was an idea my dad had that Tara was using Harrison against you as leverage.” Summer admits it’s true. Tara blackmailed her. She’s sorry. Kyle tells her she should have told him. They could have come up with ideas, lawyers. Summer ran through every scenario. She can’t have Harrison stuck with that woman all by himself. “I’ll call you back,” Kyle says, angrily. Summer cries and he disconnects.

At Society, Amanda and Michael talk about Sutton’s case. Her own arguments will be used in his defense by his other lawyers. Amanda finds that ironic. She says Naya’s refusing to even consider that her father is guilty. Michael will continue with the case but he can’t guarantee he can get the charges reinstated. He goes and she calls Imani.

In New York, Victoria thinks about Ashland’s proposal. Ashland appears. He was meeting with the realtor in putting his “various homes on the market.” He knew she needed time to think about his proposal. “You caught me off guard,” she admits. He tells her his unpredictability works in business but maybe not here. He won’t regret asking if she says no. He knows this will likely end in tears. She calls this the most intense thing that has ever happened to her. “Yes,” she tells him. “Yes.” She goes to him and they kiss. Later, they drink champagne and celebrate. They agree to keep it quiet since they know people will think he’s taking advantage. She thinks about it and wonders if they shouldn’t have an epic celebratory wedding. He loves the idea. “And I love you.” They smooch.

Naya, Amanda and Imani meet at Society. Naya admits she’s been having a rough time thinking about that jail cell. They talk about the things Sutton said in the recording. This may not be enough to move the trial forward. She can still hit him with a civil suit for wrongful death. If he’s found liable, the financial issues will ruin him. Naya’s nervous and blurts, “You can’t do that.” He’s an old man and his reputation has taken a major hit. “It was far more important than my father’s life,” Amanda snaps. She finds Amanda vindictive. Amanda understands she loves her father but she never got to love her own father. Is she ready to let Sutton get away with no consequences? Naya thought the car crash was a sad accident and admits she cried for days. “I still… I don’t want to believe,” she cries. Imani thinks she knows it in her heart that he’s responsible. Naya cries and says if she admits to it, will Amanda let him lives his days in peace? She says no, but it could work toward healing their relationship. Imani thinks Amanda will be there for her in a way Sutton never was. Later, they talk about their dinner. Naya feels terrible that she drove her daughter into this mess. She originally thought he was being unfairly accused. She grew up idolizing her father. Believing he only wanted the best for her. She goes to fix her makeup and the sisters reel over her admission. She has concerns that Amanda will go through with the civil suit. They discuss how Imani was raised differently from Amanda and how Sutton knows how to manipulate. She knows how it was challenging to shake off the need for Sutton’s approval. Imani nods.
At their suite, Phyllis and Nick receive ac all from Summer. It takes a little longer and they take a video call from Summer, who tells her mother she’s ruining everything. “Why do you have to stir up trouble?” She finally reveals that she was forced to leave town by Tara. She explains everything. Tara blackmailed her and Phyllis celebrates. Summer was trying to protect Kyle from losing his son. She’s worried everything will blow up and blames Phyllis. She goes and Phyllis still thinks this is a good thing. Nick worries. Phyllis’ hacking works and she accessed her hard drive that has her company financials. “That bitch isn’t getting away with this.”
Kyle tears into the Abbott house and sees Jack. “Where’s Tara?” Jack says she’s upstairs. Kyle tells his dad that Tara bullied Summer into leaving. Jack knows. She told him. He tells his kid that he’ll have to find a way to get through this for his child. Tara comes down the stairs and yells, “Please, keep your voices down. Do you want Harrison to hear you?” Kyle yells at Tara. How could she do this to him? She says she’s sorry. She was wrong. She believed she was doing the right thing for their son. She asks, “There’s no coming back from this, is there? Where does that leave us?”
