Soaps Spoilers has the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for the Monday, September 20, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Tuesday, September 21. In the previous episode, Sharon thought Sally was after Adam’s money. In this episode, Imani returns, Tessa turns down Mariah’s request to have a baby, and Amanda says she’ll move in with Devon.
In their suite, Tessa is surprised when Mariah says she wants kids. Tessa reminds her she hasn’t even started to unpack what happened to her. Mariah will, but she realized this is what she wants and what she needs. Tessa’s not following. Mariah says Bowie Dominic made her realize she had a lot of maternal instincts and more love to give. Starting a family with Tessa would be wonderful. Tessa calls it a wonderful sentiment which she shares for their future, but it’s been a few days since she had Dominic. Mariah says her gyno told her to wait at least 12 months. She asks Tessa to carry their baby, calling it life-changing. Tessa thinks the timing is wrong but Mariah knows it’s a lot and will give her time to think. Tessa loves that she’s thinking of their future. She plans on being with her for the rest of her life. When they’re both ready, they should discuss it more. Until then, she thinks their top priority should be talking out what happened to Mariah. She tells her girlfriend, “The words for today are rest, relax, restore.” Mariah gets into bed to nap and later, Abby texts Tessa to see how Mariah’s doing. Tessa says she’s sleeping. Tessa plays her guitar and Mariah wakes up with a smile. Tessa apologizes for waking her but Mariah loves waking up to that sound. Mariah feels happier knowing they’ve a plan. It’s a huge weight off of her. Tessa frowns. “You’re not on board with having our baby, aren’t you?” Mariah asks. Tessa is on board in a sense, but not now. It’d be done for the wrong reasons. Mariah says she gets it but she really needs this.

Amanda dresses after sex with Devon at his place. They snuggle and he kisses her neck. She has to pack her things so she can move in as soon as possible. He rushes her out the door in anticipation of her return.

At the office, Ashland and Victoria discuss their wedding. He gets a text and tells her he has an appointment. They agree to talk about dinner later, and he pulls out his cell again and tells the texter he’s on his way.
At Crimson Lights, Nick tells Billy he’s not looking to stir up dirt or create headlines in his quest to find out more about Ashland. Billy admits he’s more desperate to find something now that Ashland told him to lay off. Nick asks if he’s willing to piss off his sister more. Billy is. He still wants to know the man’s birth name and how he got the cash to buy those TV stations. Billy thinks wherever he got his money from speaks to his character when he was just out of his teens. Billy thinks he’s pushing this marriage. Nick reminds his ex-brother-in-law that Ashland is ill. Billy knows but he can’t turn a blind eye. Billy goes and Rey turns up. Nick talks to him about Ashland’s past and amits he doesn’t doubt the man has feelings for his sister but the speed of the merger and marriage caught him off guard. Rey understands where he’s coming from but there aren’t grounds to launch an official investigation. He isn’t comfortable investigating off the record. Nick admits he’s thinking of doing it himself and asks for Rey’s help. Rey agrees to that. Name changes have to be filed in courts and published in the newspaper. Nick says his dad looked into that and it came up with nothing. Could the courts have allowed Ash to seal his identity? Rey doubts it. He must have found a way to bend the rules. Nick says it happened before he became a successful businessman. Rey says he’d need a new social security number.

Victoria arrives at Grand Phoenix. Phyllis suggests the bridal package when Victoria asks for some spa treatment. Phyllis plans on treating herself from the same package before they head to Milan to Summer and Kyle’s wedding. Phyllis is sure her wedding will be a glorious affair. She asks if Victoria is excited. The brunette has never felt so secure and happy in her life. “God,” Phyllis says. “Why don’t you tell me how you really feel?” Phyllis says she knows what it’s like to finally get what she wants. Victoria thought she and Nicholas would have imploded by now. Phyllis asks if she thought she’d be with a man like Ash. She wouldn’t. They both view life differently now. Phyllis thinks this is growth. Victoria hopes that she isn’t suggesting they be friends. Phyllis says, “Maybe in fifty years, but not now.” Jack interrupts and Victoria goes to her spa appointment. Jack invites her and Nick to travel with him to Milan. She agrees happily. They discuss the kids being amazing adults. Phyllis talks about Jack’s sentiment. She loves him too. She really loves him. “You’ll always be in my heart, permanently in my heart,” she says. “So just keep that knowledge with you, okay?” Nick arrives and Jack invites him on his plane. Nick agrees when Phyllis jokes that he’ll have to spend 18 hours on Victor’s plane otherwise. Jack goes and talk turns to Ashland. They rehash everything they learned about him and Nick wants to dig into the man’s past but is conflicted. If he goes down this road, there’s no going back. Victoria may never talk to him again if she finds out. Phyllis thinks he should go for it.
Ashland meets Jesse Gaines (Jamison Jones) at Society. His yearly stipend is coming to an end as of this year. “We need to adjust our agreement.” Ashland calls it blackmail. Gaines refers to it as a comfortable relationship. Ash asks what he wants. The lawyer has enjoyed and has become accustomed to the three hundred grand he’s gotten each year. He wants three million dollars in cash by the end of the day. He can die knowing his secret is safe. Ash says his enterprise is under a microscope. He can’t do that now. When he returns from Italy he can square his accounts with him. Gaines crosses his arms over his chest and calls it unacceptable. They debate. Someone watches from outside as Ash threatens Gaines. “You will never contact me again. Coming back for more will be the biggest mistake of your life.” Billy’s seen at the window.
Imani finds Amanda in her doorway at Grand Phoenix. Imani’s worried about their mother. She never had anyone to turn to before other than their grandfather. Amanda’s glad to be able to discuss this with her. Imani wants to stream some new French film. Amanda’s in but has to make a call first. She calls Devon to tell him she’ll be delayed. “Take your time. Me and the penthouse ain’t going nowhere,” he says. “I’ll see you at home later,” Amanda says. She laughs, thinking that sounds strange. They disconnect and Imani almost squees at hearing she and Devon are moving in together. Amanda’s happy and asks her sister if she should be worried about being this happy. Imani thinks she deserves it and calls Devon a once-in-a-lifetime catch.

Ash goes back to Victoria’s office. She notes he’s tense. He lies that he just wants their wedding to go well. She reminds him it’s one day and that the marriage is what really matters. “The time that we spend together, who are to each other.” Ash says that even with all he’s told her about his past, “You still have doubts about me.” Victoria loves him and still wants to marry him. Ash knows but he saw that look in her eyes. She’s just trying to take it all in. He assures her that there are no more secrets. She knows everything there is to know about him.
