Soaps Spoilers has the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for the Friday, September 17, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Monday, September 18. In the previous episode, Mariah had an epic meltdown about “Bowie”. In this episode, Chelsea is angry with Adam for telling their son their marriage is over without her, while Mariah and Tessa snuggle in their new place, while Devon has a very important question for Amanda.
At Crimson Lights, Sharon makes a call to Mariah to ask how the christening went. “Don’t come, it’s over,” she says. Sharon is concerned that she doesn’t sound okay. Mariah needs to get out of the Chancellor house now to come to terms and process everything. Sharon hears her. She offers to listen if her daughter needs it. Connor and Adam return. Sharon tells Connor that she wants what’s best for both of his parents. Adam reminds Connor that Sharon helped his mother and him. Sharon offers to help whenever any of them need it. She suggests he take a seat and gets him a snack. He thanks her. “I guess that would be okay.” They sit and Rey gives Adam side-eye when he walks in. Adam explains that Connor needs Sharon’s advice right now. That’s why he’s there. Rey gets it. He knows Sharon will help all she can. Adam grins. They found common ground. Could they co-exist? At another table, Connor eats a snack and tells Sharon he’s sad. He knows kids at school whose parents broke up. “Now I’m one of those kids.” Sharon knows it’s scary. He doesn’t know who he’ll stay with and doesn’t want to upset either of them. “It’s not your job to take care of them. Why don’t you relax and let them take care of you?” Sharon thinks they’ll spend equal time with him and their love is all that matters.

At Society, Sally fills Chloe in on finding Connor alone at the park. She’s certain he heard that his parents were breaking up. Sally says her heart went out to him. It triggered something in her and she connected with him. She feels pride that she cheered him up a little. “Who knew I had that mom gene?” Chloe gives a wary smile but agrees that kids can bring out the best in people. Sally wonders how parents juggle it all the way Chloe does. Chloe says it isn’t easy, but Chelsea and Adam are both parenting their kid. Sally gets it. “Seeing him as a single dad made him even hotter,” she says, smiling. Chloe chokes on her drink and Sally claims she’s kidding. Chloe says Chelsea’s a good mother. Sally says she’s not there. She goes and Chloe video calls Chelsea, who complains about Adam telling her kid that they’re breaking up. Chloe feels bad for Connor but hopes Chelsea knows this is a good thing. Chelsea thinks they needed to tell him together. Chloe reminds her friend that this is always what Adam does. Now she can get on with her life without letting Adam bring her down. They can start kicking butt at work. Chelsea asks how things are going with Sally. She wanted to pass along to the woman that she’s grateful to her for being there for her kid in the park.

Nate talks with Amanda about Naya’s condition at the coffee shop. He promises that he’ll ensure she gets the best care. Amanda’s stressed and isn’t sure she has the emotional resources to deal. She’s worried about Devon and the conflicting emotions he’s had since Dom was born. Nate says she can’t deal with everyone’s issues. “Take time for yourself or you may not be able to help the people you love.”

Back at the Chancellor mansion, Abby wants Marah to feel safe there. She wants to keep pumping milk for him but she can’t be there with him all the time. Tessa says she’ll be delivering the milk. Abby and Devon agree that whatever she needs, they’ll go along with. The women leave and the baby starts to cry, making Mariah pause in the doorway, eyes closed. Abby takes care of the towel baby and complains that they had a contract and now Mariah can’t stand being around her. Devon says they can’t predict how people will feel. The kidnapping changed her. Abby thinks she may have felt this way even without that. Once everyone’s gone, Abby tells the baby how much he’s loved as she feeds him. She misses his dad and says she’s grateful to Mariah for protecting him and bringing him into this world. She thinks about them being locked up together. It must have been so hard for Mariah. “We have to do something to help her through this.” Maybe in time, she’ll be a part of their lives. She finds Mariah’s bracelet on the floor and almost calls her. She decides that she’ll give her space.

In their suite at Grand Phoenix, Mariah thinks she can now step away from the connection she feels toward Dominic. She vows she’ll get better. Tessa says there’s no pressure or timeline. They sit together and Mariah says her feelings need to be familial, not maternal. “You sound like you’re talking with your head. It’s your heart that I’m worried about.” They snuggle later and Tessa tells her she’s there for her girlfriend through the good, the bad, and gutwrenching. They’ll get through this together. Tessa touches Mariah’s face and they kiss and then lay in bed together and talk about how Mariah sang some of Tessa’s songs to Bowie while they were kidnapped. She thinks it calmed both of them down. She even dreamed that Tessa rescued her. “It was so real.” Tessa’s glad she was a source of comfort. Maybe they found the perfect balance. Mariah agrees. They hold hands. Later, Mariah recalls being kidnapped and giving birth. She recalls telling the baby that she wanted to nurse him. She calls Tessa out of the other room and with a tear streaming down her face, says she thinks she’s found a way to heal and move on.
At Devon’s, Amanda tells Devon that he spoke with some doctors Nate recommended and found one that should work for them. He’s sorry that this is happening at all but she tells him her mom’s diagnosis isn’t life-threatening. She tells her beau that she and Imani are going to open their own business. Imani will take the bar and will be a junior partner. She can’t wait for Sutton to be found guilty in his case. Devon knows that’ll happen. She loves his neverending support and asks how he’s doing with things about the surrogacy and Dom. He’s embarrassed to admit that she was right. The contract doesn’t account for what people feel. He welcomes her to say she told him so. She doesn’t look like she wants to say that at all. Devon says the baptism was rough and after Amanda left, Mariah let it pour out. He admits she says she doesn’t know how to be Dom’s mother. She’s moving out. Amanda can see it’s a loss. She’ll never be able to love him the way she did for nine months. She was his only protector while they were kidnapped. She’s not sure how one copes. He has no idea. And now, Abby feels guilty for loving her own child and isn’t doing it with her husband. Amanda asks how it’s affecting him. He says it felt strange since he’s the kid’s biological father. He knows they’ll be connected forever but he won’t be the one Dom calls dad. He asks what that says about him. Amanda thanks it just means he cares deeply. The child is lucky to be fiercely loved by him. Later, he puts on some soft jazz and a bottle of wine to celebrate her new firm and asks her to move in with him.
Sally arrives at Crimson Lights. Connor sees her and tells Sharon that she’s his dad’s friend. Sally strolls up and he wants her to tell Sharon about the ice bucket going over her head. Sally thinks she’s heard that one. Sharon goes to the counter and Connor tells Sally he thinks she’s funny. He asks if she has more embarrassing stories. She admits she has loads. Connor asks Sally to accompany them back to Adam’s office. Once they go, Rey tells Sharon about his calm interaction with Adam. Sharon wonders to Rey if Sally’s got her sights set on Adam. Nick told her that she targets wealthy men. She thinks he’s vulnerable.
