General Hospital recap for Thursday, January 5, 2023. In today’s GH episode, Austin and Obrecht discuss Britt’s final days, Nina informs Brad and Maxie of Britt’s illness, and Dante doesn’t get anything out of Nikolas.
We also have Wednesday’s GH recap where Britt died in Obrecht’s arms, Joss dumped Cam, and Esme seemed to have amnesia.
Felicia stops by the stables to see Cody.
She informs him that Britt died last night.
He notices she died on her first birthday party. “It’s a tragedy,” she says.
Cody can hardly believe this. Life never seemed to give Britt a break.
She says that he and Britt had a lot in common.
He knows they had a connection but he wasn’t straight with her and ruined it.
She’ll never know that he learned too late that all he wanted was her.
He thanks her for coming out to break the news. She explains it was Mac’s idea.
They hug.
A reporter follows Maxie around the corridors of the Metro Court, asking for a quote about Britt. Nina chase shim off. Brad joins them. They are all in disbelief.
She tells them the funeral home needs an outfit for Britt.
Choking up, Brad wishes his friend was here to hear everyone praising her as a hero and lapping it up.
He waited until his 30s to get a BFF and now he doesn’t know how to go on without her.
Maxie pats him on the back and says they they can pick out her clothes together.
They go into her room and discover all her clothes are gone. They also learn she gave most of them to charity.
It’s almost like she knew she was about to die. Brad notes she left him everything in her will.
She burned all her bridges. They wonder why.
Nina tells them that she had Huntington’s. Maxie and Brad are upset they weren’t told.
She realizes Austin must have known.
Brad never would have walked away from her. They cry about how much they still need her in their lives.
Nina gives them hugs and tells them to stay strong before exiting.
Brad and Maxie don’t know what to do next.
As they walk out, Brad yells about being left behind like this.
He won’t let Maxie choose some boring dress for Britt. As the walk down the hall, she complains his taste is trash.

Austin goes into Britt office and finds Liesl packing up her daughter’s desk.
The least she can do is keep her things safe. He assures her no one will take her stuff.
She thanks him for what he did at the party and for showing Britt that life was worthwhile.
Liesl hopes her daughter realized how much she was loved when she saw the slideshow.
He admits he knew Britt was about to leave town for good. That makes Obrecht proud.
She explains that they had a complicated relationship.
Austin tells her how filled with love Britt’s last week was. He’s sad she’s gone, but it was a bad-assed way to go.
He tells her that the police has a suspect down the hall and leaves.
Esme wakes up in her bed and asks Liz to take the restraints off her. Liz asks if she can remember anything.
Distraught, Esme can’t even remember her own name.
Kevin arrives. She recognizes his face. Liz explains he’s doctor Kevin Collins.
After the nurse leaves them, the shrink sits down and Esme says it’s like she knows him but it’s just outside her reach.
He admits their paths have crossed. When he mentions Spencer and Nikolas, they don’t ring a bell.
He brings up his twin brother. She doesn’t respond so he explains she took care of him.
Martin bursts in and asks the doctor to cease and desist. She’s his client. Esme is confused.
He sits down and explains he was assigned by a judge and this is a pro bono case. The lawyer advises her not to talk to anyone.
Esme remains confused about what everyone thinks she’s done. Martin explains it’s murder in the first degree.
He’s confused that she doesn’t seem to know what’s going on. After he walks out, Liz asks Esme is she’s faking her memory loss.
Crying, Esme begs her to believe her.
At the PCPD, Nikolas tells Dante he needs to call his son. The cop says he can do that on his own time. He needs some answers about his relationship with Esme.
Dante admits that he can’t see Esme being the killer and taking down Brando and Rory, especially if she’s pregnant. If she is the killer, maybe she was getting help?
The cop is sure that she’s still the key to the killings. Someone has been helping her and who would have more reason than the father of her baby.
Nikolas thinks the cop has nothing and refuses to keep talking. He walks out.
Kevin shows up and explains his session with Esme was cut short by Martin.
The cop asks if she’s faking amnesia. Kevin doesn’t think so.
Dante has realized it’s clear she’s not the hook.
Nikolas heads to GH and finds Martin in the corridor. He tells him that he had him assigned to Esme’s case.
She informs him that she’s carrying his baby so he wanted family to deal with it.
He offers him triple his normal fee to keep her safe until the baby is born.
Nina stops by to see her aunt but can’t find her.
Liesl has slipped on a doctor’s coat and gone down the hall to see Esme.
When the patient complains she can’t sleep and needs something stronger, Brecht says that can be arranged.
At Spring Ridge, Heather tells Ryan that her favorite guard let her slip out last night for a walk.
He tells her someone sunk a hook into Britt last night. He doesn’t know how he never saw that she was the killer.
She tells him she needed to protect their daughter. He urges her to make things right and confess so their daughter can go free.
Heather points out the cops will figure out Esme is innocent after what happened last night.
He notices she’s been injured. She claims she was only trying to set things right last night.
Ryan fills her in on their baby having a baby. Heather is ecstatic for her first grandbaby.
She wants to make up for lost time and be there when the baby is born. She’s going to speed up the timeline.
“Mama will take care of everything,” she says.
She mentions her last hook got snagged but assures him no one can trace it back to her.
He’s determined that they reunite with their daughter, grandchild…and Ava.
Curtis surprises Portia at Perks. He explains Trina called, worried about how hard it’s been for her to shake Britt’s death.
Portia points out they were friends. He offers to hold her hand at the memorial.
When he was watching her sleep this morning, he was overcome with gratitude for her. So he went to the florist to get them something to give them hope. It’s a Calethea to symbolize their new beginning.
She loves how thoughtful he is. Ever since Trina was arrested, she can’t stop thinking about all the bad things.
Their family has come through the past year stronger. Even Stella accepted her.
Curtis says Trina even told her she loved him the other day.
Portia is looking forward to walking down the aisle with him.
They kiss. He wants everyone to know how proud they are to be together.
