(Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for August 24, 2023 episode airs in the USA on August 25. Live by 4:15 PM EST daily.)
In the park, Tessa and Mariah tell themselves that they will be able to handle everything.
Elena walks by and interrupts. They explain that they just met with Aria’s pediatrician and got some upsetting news.
The wives tells her about Aria’s hearing tests. It looks like she has severe hearing loss but they aren’t sure if it’s permanent or not.
They’ve made an appointment with a specialist.
The doctor tells them not to think about the worst case scenario and there are many ways they can deal with this.
They are determined to do whatever they have to for their daughter.
The doctor just pulled another all-nighter. They ask how she is. She says she’s just been working a lot. They worry she’s been overdoing it to avoid dealing with losing Nate.
Elena says work is the one thing that hasn’t disappointed her.
She appreciates having them as friends and says she’s doing a lot better after being a bit of a mess.
Her work fulfills her.
Mariah tells her burnout is no joke and the doctor assures them she’s released all her hurt and anger. They say she can always vent to them.
After the doctor leaves, Mariah says it’s time to tell her mom.
Sharon meets with Esther and Chloe at Crimson Lights.
They chat about Aria and then about Esther taking over as the manager of the coffee house. She’s excited about running things there.
It won’t be like working for Jill, which was basically “indentured servitude.”
Nick interrupts and steps out onto the patio with Sharon.
They worry about what Victor is doing and sense that Newman Media will just be swallowing them up and they could end up answering to Adam.
Sitting down, she notes that Victor couldn’t cut Adam loose because of the optics.
He’s worried about the constant push and pull between his brother and father.
He’s sure this will only fuel Adam’s worst instincts.
They return to Chloe and Esther and Sharon gives her a checklist.
Esther tells her to enjoy “moguling” and not worry about a thing.
Once Nick and Sharon are gone, Esther jokes about getting a manager badge and tells her daughter how she can look after the place.
She loves her daughter and knows all her eye-rolling and heavy sighs are just because she loves her too.
Tessa and Mariah arrive, looking for Sharon.
Esther tells them she’s not there.
As she loudly declares she’s now officially the manager, the baby wakes up and cries.
At the ranch, Nikki is shocked when Victor tells her he is merging SNA and Newman Media.
He thinks this is the right time, even though Adam assumes he has ulterior motives.
She assumes he’s right to think that.
He explains that Nate’s analysis impressed him and he didn’t want to delay the merger.
He doesn’t know who will run the new company yet.
Nikki urges him to think of this seriously.
She’s sure that Nate is too ambitious for his own good and asks what their daughter has to say about this.
He says she’s in a meeting in LA.
By the time the young lady gets back, there will be a whole new dynamic at Newman Media.

Adam strides into Society and demands to know what Nate was meeting with his father about last night.
Nate says his private conversations with Victor are private.
Adam explains he decided on the merger ten minutes after their meeting.
Nate congratulates him, pointing out that’s what he wanted.
He adds that Nick and Adam may not trust him, but neither of them can put together a coherent business plan.
Adam is sure he’s been using that to ingratiate himself.
Nate says he was right about the merger but his tactics were all wrong.
Victor should have cut him loose but instead, he’s given him what he wanted on a silver platter. Why can’t Adam take the win?
They bicker about how much sway Nate has.
Adam gets a text from his brother requesting a meeting.
As he heads out, Adam says he will find out whatever is going on.
Nate thinks for a minute and then calls someone to ask if they knew this merger was coming.
When Nate joins Audra at the GCAC, he informs her that Newman Media is about to expand.
She assumes she will be pushed out and can’t believe that Victor is just going to give Adam what he wanted after he went after it in such a backhanded way.
Nate urges her not to think she knows what Victor thinks. She assumes he wants the whole brood working together and she doubts she will be kept.
He urges her to keep proving she deserves to be there. She refuses to do that and would instead take a page out of Adam’s book.
She suspects Victor respects how he fights.
She wants to fight too and walks out.
When Adam gets home, Sally shows up.
She’s been thinking about his job offer but still needs to talk to Nick about it.
Spectra has some questions.
They chat about the merger and he admits he’s only cautiously optimistic and doesn’t trust his father’s plans.
There are a lot of variables…like Nate.
Adam is looking forward to getting control of the company he built back and wants her at his side. There is no way that will be run jointly.
It has to have one leader and that will be him.
Nick and Sharon arrive as Sally sighs.
She tells them that Adam offered her a job.
That annoys them since he didn’t run it by his partner first. Nick reminds him he’s not in charge.
On Sally’s way out, Nick wishes she had run this by his first.
She tells him she had to make it clear to Adam what taking the job would mean.
They agree to meet later and kiss as Adam gags a little.
Once she’s gone, Adam declares it is only natural that he take charge.
They don’t accept that and think his ego has taken over his ability to be logical.
Adam says that this is not a merger. Newman is taking over SNA and they can still do good.
They accuse him of only talking about collaboration when his plan was to take control all along.
They tell him to let go of this need to be in charge before it’s too late.
Audra arrives at the ranch and asks Victor and Nikki what is happening with SNA. Nikki says it’s on a need-to-know basis.
Audra reminds them of her record at Newman Media as CEO and admits that Nate told her about the merger as a courtesy.
“Am I going to be out of a job?” she asks.
He’s impressed she’s showing guts. “It’s showing something,” Nikki says.
Victor assures Audra she will continue to have a position in the company and they will keep her apprized.
Once she exits, Nikki complains that she’s as driven and ambitious as Nate.
He likes that.
“You’ll like it until it becomes a problem,” his wife points out. He suspects that Audra is the one he should be mentoring.
Nikki hopes he’s kidding.
Audra and Nate need a leash, not a mentor.
Audra joins Nate at the GCAC and explains she asked Victor straight up what the merger will mean for her.
He assured her there would always be a spot for her.
He admires her grit. Elena arrives and stares at them.
Sally meets with Chloe at Society and they chat about her new job. Chloe is glad that she is moving on because so is she.
Sally says the whole thing is complicated, maybe more than she’s ready for.
Next week on Y&R!
“What if we back out of the whole deal?” Sharon suggests to Nick, going out on their own without Adam or Newman.
“Is it treatable?” Mariah asks the doctor. The doctor says it is but there is no cure.
At Society, shocked Ashley asks Diane if she just saved her life.
