This is the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Wednesday, June 23, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, June 24. In the previous episode, Summer told Phyllis about her job offer, and in this recapped episode, Nick and Phyllis try to figure out what happened to make Summer want to take this job in Milan, while Summer tells all to Kyle, who turns to Jack for advice.
At Crimson Lights, Sally tells Jack that she sampled the new waterproof mascara at work and it’s perfect. Jack notes she is in a remarkably great mood. Sally says she’s happy. Jack asks why. “You’re suspicious of my happiness?” She loves her job and the city, even though they’ll never be friends. He’s glad she found a home. In the other room, the PI tells Devon and Amanda she looked at the phone records for the two weeks before Richard was to meet her foster family. There were no calls made to anyone at Newman but Richard called Sutton three times and Naya’s cell phone that lasted more than five minutes. Amanda’s confused. Naya swore she avoided his calls. “Apparently she was lying about that, too,” Devon says. Amanda asks her to stay on the case. She’s upset that Naya lied. Denise can see how much this is hurting her. She goes and Devon and Amanda wonder what Naya and Richard talked about.
Later, in her room, Amanda rehashes her feelings about what happened to her as a cause of her family. Devon says she doesn’t need them. She has friends and him. She cries. She knows she’d have loved him. Devon asks what she’d say if he was here. She’d thank him and apologize. Knowing someone out there wanted her means so much. She feels she’s let him down. Naya arrives and Devon gives them time alone. Naya almost didn’t come. “You sounded angry.” Amanda says last they talked, it sounded like Naya threatened her. Naya denies it. Amanda asks if she spoke to Richard before his death. “Did you lie to me?” Amanda knows Richard called and talked to her for five minutes. Did she know who told Richard about the babies? Naya claims not to recall. She offered him money to let it go when he talked about going to a PI. The damage to her father’s campaign would be detrimental. Richard was disgusted. He told her he was more in love with her than she was with him. He just wanted his daughters. Amanda’s shocked that he knew Naya had twins. She realizes Naya told Sutton. Naya admits it. Amanda assumes Sutton had Richard killed. “To silence the one person who could destroy his life.” Naya denies that. She’s telling the truth. “I’m ashamed of how I handled Richard and I’m heartbroken that you didn’t get to meet him and he didn’t get to be a part of your life.” It’s not Sutton’s fault. He’s not that kind of man. “You have to believe me.” Amanda doesn’t believe anything coming from her mouth.
From Grand Phoenix, Tara calls Lauren and tells her she’s interested in a meeting to talk about marketing her shoe line. She tells her that everything her son and her need is there in Genoa City. They disconnect and Phyllis watches. Nick shows up and snipes about why Summer is even considering moving to Milan. Phyllis texts Summer to talk before she does something she can’t undo. Nick talks about how the kids eloped and she gave him part of her liver. “I know another couple like them,” Phyllis says. They’re on again off again, “Can’t live without one another.” Nick admits that is true. They try to figure out why the sudden change.

At Society, Summer tells Kyle that she was offered a job in Milan with Angelina Marchetti. Kyle says, “Wow, that’s flattering.” She’s not going to take it, is she? She asks how she could turn it down. Kyle is shocked she decided to take it without even running it by him. She says she’s sorry. “But I’m gonna take it.” Kyle’s confused about the logistics. Her whole life is there. She tears up and tells him she needs to get away from Genoa City and the crowd of people invading their lives. She says it’s not about her insecurities. She tried to fight her gut feelings. Kyle’s baffled. Summer says she can’t see herself raising a kid with the woman he had an affair with, “A woman who you clearly still have feelings for.” Kyle clarifies he doesn’t have feelings for Tara. Kyle says Tara likes her and has said so a few times. He calls this out of the blue. She says she’s seen those close intimate moments they shared, like the one where he told her he was glad she was in GC. Kyle was glad because it’s what’s best for Harry. Summer can’t be the bigger person. She’d never stand in the way of him being with his kid. He offers to go with her to Milan. He’ll fly back and forth. Summer says no. She knows he wants to share in all Harry’s moments. He’d miss a lot and would resent her. Kyle denies it. She tells him she’ll live the life she wants and he’ll be with his son. Kyle starts to cry and Summer sobs and apologies. “I’m doing what’s best for everybody, okay?” She takes off and arrives at the lobby of Grand Phoenix where Phyllis tells her she revealed to her dad that Summer is moving to Milan. Summer cries that she told Kyle everything, that she can’t stay and watch him raise his son. Nick appears and asks why all the secrecy over it. She had to handle it without feeling judged and calls this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. She’s taking it. Nick’s concerned. Summer tells them Angelina wants her to start right away. Nick can’t take it anymore and demands to know what Kyle did to drive her away. Summer defends Kyle. She wanted to be magnanimous but she can’t live like an outsider. She goes upstairs and Phyllis doesn’t think Kyle did anything, while Nick’s not sure.

Kyle arrives at the Abbott’s and Tara asks if he’s okay. He can’t talk to her about this. When Jack appears, Kyle asks Tara to leave them alone. She goes and Kyle fills his father in. Jack’s rocked. He calls Marchetti an iconic brand but Kyle argues that she wouldn’t abandon her baby – JVC. Kyle talks about going with Summer but Jack asks if he’s ready to end his relationship with Harry. Kyle tries to wrap his head around this. “This can’t be how we end.” He has to try to make her understand how he feels. He takes off and Tara comes from the other room. She’s been eavesdropping. She goes to Jack to asks what’s up and he cryptically tells her change is hard. He goes and Tara texts Sally. “We’re so close to getting what we both want.”

Kyle rushes into his suite and tells Summer he can’t — won’t let her leave him. Meanwhile, her bags are on the bed, packed.
