This is the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Monday, June 21, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Tuesday, June 22. In the previous episode, Tara told Summer to take the job at Marchetti, and today, Phyllis learns about Summer’s job offer and can’t help feel something more isn’t being said.
At the house, Jack and Kyle discuss Harrison. Tara appears and asks where Summer is as if she doesn’t know. Kyle assumes she left and goes to read his kid a story. Tara tells Jack it’s been a long day. He offers to listen but she tells him it’s more of the same with her divorce and custody agreement. Jack knows it’s not over until it’s over. He’s been involved in divorce and a custody fight. Tara asks about the custody. She’d like to get to know Kyle a little better. Upstairs, Kyle tells his son he dug up a book that he read when he was his age. “Pretty cool, huh?” Kyle says. “Pretty cool,” Harrison repeats. Downstairs, Tara tells Jack that was quite the story. Jack says Diane and he were in an ugly place when she died. Tara flatters Jack, telling him he was a great father and he drinks it all in. He tells her a little about the family and says she might like to read Traci’s book that she wrote about the family. Tara likes that. Jack’s grateful to her for not running away but sticking around to let Kyle get to know his son. Tara’s happy that Harrison will be a part of the family for the rest of his life.
At the Grand Phoenix, Phyllis arrives at Summer’s suite. She didn’t want to wait and knew she wanted to talk. Summer thanks her mom for rushing over and tells her that she may have to let Kyle go so he can have the life he deserves. Summer says that she was offered a job at Marchetti. Phyllis is psyched on her behalf. Summer asks her to keep this secret. She hasn’t told Kyle yet and doesn’t want him to choose between her and his son. Besides, he’s wanted to work alongside his dad his whole life. Phyllis gets it but why is she playing a martyr? Why would this affect Kyle? Summer says she has to break things off with Kyle if she takes the job. “I will relieve him of the burden.” Phyllis tells her kid she needs to discuss this with Kyle so she can make an informed decision. If she thinks he’ll be miserable in Milan, “Don’t take the job!” Summer says it’s not that simple but Phyllis is confused and asks what’s really going on. Summer won’t say but she reveals Kyle’s staying at the mansion with Harrison. Summer notes that Tara lives there and asks what happened with Tara. Summer admits that she’s feeling the ground shift from under her feet since Tara arrived. Harrison should be top priority but she doesn’t know where she fits in now. Phyllis is supportive but Summer’s reeling from Tara’s blackmail and accuses Phyllis of overdoing advice. Phyllis apologizes and tries to simmer down. She tears up and supports her if she takes the job. Phyllis knows there is more to the story and hopes she’ll tell her the rest when she’s ready. She leaves and looks pissed off.
Elena arrives at Society and sees a romantic place setting. Nate’s glad she could make it. They didn’t get to finish their talk about why he didn’t think she should take the job in Boston. Nate toasts to Elena saving his life but she doesn’t need that for doing what any doctor would. She assumes he’s grateful to her for saving his life, which is why he wants her to stay in town. She recalls patients offering her gifts. She appreciates it but — Nate interrupts. He knows what she’s referring to but he wants her to stay in town. He wants to be with her. She doesn’t get how she can believe that. He sees her magic and passion, the beauty of her heart, the depth of her soul. He calls her brilliant and radiant. “And you dazzle.” He wanted more than she was ready to give but he thought he saw that she has deeper feelings for him. Was he wrong? She says he’s right. Nate wants to let go of the past and move forward with her. They wind up kissing in his room upstairs and the clothes start coming off. Later, they lie in each other’s arms after implied sex. Elena emails to decline the job offer. She has what she needs in Genoa City. They kiss.
Chelsea tosses and turns in her sleep at the psych ward and dreams Victor has come to see her. He tells her he hopes she’s comfortable in there because she’s never leaving. Sharon is happy, Adam is free, and you’re locked up.” He chuckles to himself and tells her she’s a lousy mother. “He deserves better than you.” Chelsea yells at him to get out and then Adam appears and tells her to calm down. He laughs at her, telling her he doesn’t give a damn what happens to her. Chelsea accuses him of gaslighting her and blames him for her being there. Adam tells her to drop the outrage. She knew it’d never be endgame for them. Rey appears and tells Adam he’s glad to know the truth. He thought she was fooling him but he can see she really is insane. The dream gets dark and she finally wakes up.

Nick sees Adam getting coffee at Crimson Lights. He assumes his brother doesn’t want to go home when there is nobody to go home to. Both are burning the midnight oil. Nick comments that Faith’s with Christian and she seems carefree. Adam’s glad. He’s glad Nick has them to go home to. He says the sitter will be there a while. Adam’s a little envious. Nick offers to stay. Adam talks about how Chels is suffering and Connor wants to see her. He didn’t want to take him to see her since he thought it’d be disturbing. Nick says, “Ouch,” when Adam reveals that when he told Chelsea, she made harsh accusations at him. They both want her to get better but Nick knows they can’t rush things. Nick suggests finding a way to tell him what’s up with his mom and that it might help his demons. Adam almost rolls his eyes and Nick winces. He thinks he went too far.
After a call from Summer, Kyle returns to their suite. She thanks him for changing his plans. She claims she’s missing him and feeling extra sentimental. He tells her he’ll always be hers, now and forever.
