The Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for the Tuesday, August 31, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Wednesday, September 1. In the previous episode, Mariah can’t let go of Bowie. In this episode, tongues wag as Adam strolls into the Newman Media party with Sally, while Ashland and Victoria stay in.
Victor and Adam discuss their speeches at work. Victor tries to get his son to assume a more public role, so they share the speeches. Nick arrives to follow up on “that conversation we had earlier.” Adam offers to give them space. He thanks him for convincing Phyllis to let them have the launch party at her hotel. Victor looks at the list. “What the hell is… who invited Billy Abbott?” Adam says he would have tried to crash it anyway. Victor and Nikki don’t like it, or how glib Adam’s being. Nick reminds his dad that he’s the father of Victoria’s sister. Victor thinks he’s defending Billy now but Nick says he just found common ground with the guy. That’s all. Adam and Nikki take off and Victor tells his son he doesn’t want him to have anything to do with Billy. Nick tells him about Billy’s findings that were the same as theirs regarding Ashland’s past. Both agree neither want the information to end up in a Chance Comm article. Vic goes to get dapper for tonight and then calls Abby to talk to her about the party and her baby boy. He knows she can’t attend tonight and will fill her in later. “I love you, goodnight,” he says. Nikki turns up, a vision of loveliness.”You take my breath away, baby,” Victor says, staring.

Phyllis and Crystal get ready for the Newman Media party. Billy interrupts, wanting a drink. She finds it odd that he’s not waiting for tonight. He thinks in turn that it’s strange that she’s having a party for two people she hates. She points out that she’s getting paid for it. What’s he up to? Billy only says that they protect their own. He asks what she knows about Ashland. She calls him bossy and arrogant — dark. Billy thinks his ex deserves to know the facts before they marry, causing Phyllis to realize he must be trying to dig something up from his past. She knows it has to be good. Victoria will defend business deals. He smiles, knowing it’s true. Phyllis thinks Billy will be the one hurt if he does this. Victoria will come after him.

Jack sees Sally walk into Crimson Lights. She thanks him for stopping her in the park with Phyllis. She was about to lose her cool. Jack didn’t want things to get out of hand. She talks about attending the Newman Media launch party and didn’t want him to be thrown by it. “How fragile do you think I am?” He asks. She didn’t want him to think she was following him. “It wouldn’t matter if I did,” Jack tells her. She says, “Okay then,” and meanders off. She returns later and tells him how deliberately hurtful he’s been toward her. “Are you finished?” He asks. She sighs. “I am, actually.” She’s proud of herself. He tries to lecture her and she stops him. She doesn’t care anymore what he thinks of her. She stomps outside and looks upset as she glares at him. She makes a call to Adam to accept his invitation to the party. She’ll be his date.
At Victoria’s, Ashland and Victoria discuss going to the launch party. She’s worried but he’s taken the vitamins Nate gave him. He’s good. She brings up the wedding. He’ll be completely ready for that. Victoria admits she “wants to see Newman Media and Adam fall flat on their smug faces.” They talk about her idolizing her dad and calls Adam conniving and vicious. He’s caused anguish to people she loves. They talk about how special Delia is and that Billy will never be the same. Ash understands why Billy is going after Adam and is so protective. He doesn’t mind if Billy doesn’t let up on him, with the exception of Harrison seeing the stories Billy writes once he’s dead. “I won’t be there to defend myself.” Victoria will pass on whatever he wants to his son. She brings up him telling her about the woman who mentored him and jokingly asks if there’s any other secret she should know about. He wouldn’t call what happened a secret. He doubles over in pain while telling her he’ll answer any questions she has. Victoria heads to Society to get him some soup.

At ChanceComm, Elena tells Lily she is torn between wanting and not wanting the job as Ask MD Now. Lily offers to work around her schedule. Elena wants to take a different approach. She wants it to be more of an outreach setting by focusing on preventative care. Lily’s in!
Victoria finds Nick drinking at Society. He needed a quiet place to drink. “And the library wasn’t serving,” she quips. She brings up their dad investigating her beau. It’s a slap in the face but Nick argues that it’s coming from a place of love. Nick has mixed feelings about it. He admits he knows about Ashland’s past being mentored by the older woman and how he bought the two TV stations after she died. Nobody knows where the cash came from. Victoria reveals she knows about that but it’s nobody’s business where the cash came from unless he robbed a bank. They talk about his chemo and then Billy’s interference. Victoria can’t go tonight and asks her to send her regrets. He smirks when she says to tell Adam ‘good job’.

At home, after Ashland has eaten his soup, he says he’s off to bed. He wants Victoria to go to the party tonight but she refuses. Instead, she offers a back rub.

Phyllis greets Victor and Nikki and congratulates them on their grandbaby. Mr. Bainbridge is in the lounge, she tells them. HE’s the new board member. Nikki stops to take a call from Victoria and learns she’s not coming. Nick strolls in and overhears Phyllis asking for ice. She disconnects and complains. “You look bang,” he says and Phyllis has to take another call about being low on champagne. She toddles off and mother and son discuss Victoria and Ash not showing up. They sigh when Billy wanders in with Lily. Nick lets them know Victoria’s not here, which means if she’s the reason he showed up then he doesn’t need to stay. Billy clarifies he’s there for the fireworks. Lily feels bad that Ashland’s having a rough day after chemo. She knows what it’s like. When Billy asks if Nick asked about Ashland’s past, Lily drags him off. Jack arrives and Phyllis talks about the photos Summer sent of Harrison. Jack admits he wants to ask Johnny and Katie over to make some noise. Nate, Elena and Billy and Lily agree to double date and Elena gets called away about a patient, while Victor asks Nick to stay away from Billy. “That guy’s trouble.” Everyone stops what they’re doing when Sally strolls in on Adam’s arm. Phyllis wants to kick her out but Jack stops him. She works at Newman Media. Sally thanks Adam for the invitation and notices everyone staring at him. They agree their night will be fun.
