The Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for the Monday, August 30, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Tuesday, August 31. In the previous episode, Phyllis threatened Sally. In this episode, Nate catches Ashland when he’s vulnerable, and Mariah deals with the aftermath of being held captive.
At home, Devon shares the birth story with Amanda and reminds her he told her last night. She knows but he’s a hero. She likes hearing it. She calls him the father and he corrects her. Abby’s the mother and Chance is the baby’s one and only father. He felt a connection to him when he held him and admits he hasn’t stopped thinking about him. He grins wildly.
Mariah gets the Jimmy Legs in her sleep and calls out as she dreams in the hospital. She wakes up with Abby at her side and demands to know where the baby is. Abby says he’s in the nursery and perfectly safe. Mariah calms down. Abby’s sorry she’s having nightmares. Mariah says being locked in the room with four walls and no windows and that “stupid dumbwaiter” that food came up in. She was alone except for Bowie. Abby’s voice catches as she blames herself. She should have sensed something was wrong. She was blinded, worried about Mariah and he said all the right things. Mariah can see that Stitch wanted her to see him as the hero but she still doesn’t get it. Abby says he thought this was his way out of feeling depressed. “What he did was despicable.” Not just to her but to Abby, Devon, Tessa and everyone who loves the baby. Abby says she told the town about the kid and they’re anxious to meet him and see her. Mariah’s overwhelmed. They discuss the protein bars saving her life. Abby explains that they are what made Devon start asking questions. Mariah’s confused. Abby explains they didn’t know she was missing for a long time, and how things went down while she was gone. Mariah’s pissed. She’d never leave town without saying goodbye to Tessa. Abby says Tessa was the first one to realize something was wrong. Mariah explains why she named the child Bowie so she could talk to him. She is quick to explain that she wasn’t trying to name him permanently. Abby gets it and realizes that she was having conversations with him while they were being held. Mariah admits she told him how much his mother loved him.
At Society, Nick and Victor can’t wrap their heads around Stitch being the one to kidnap Mariah. Victor’s grateful it’s all over with. He goes to take a call and Billy Boy wanders in to congratulate Nick, the new uncle. Nick congratulates him as well. Nick says Stitch better hope he doesn’t get his hands on him. Billy gets it but thinks right now, his other sister needs his help. Nick thinks they need to stay out of his sister and Ash’s personal life. Billy reveals the same news that Ash was mentored by an older woman and acquired her two companies when she passed on. “There’s a story there.” Nick’s not so sure. Billy realizes he knew. He glances at Victor and can see they’re running their own investigation. Nick says if Billy finds anything worthwhile, let him know. He goes and Victor shows up. Nick explains his chat with Billy and they agree to protect themselves and not admit they’re digging into Ash’s past since that’s the Newman creed.

Victoria drops by Chance Comm to ask Lily if she’s been sending her reporters to dig into Ashland’s past. Lily says he’s a public figure, and that means outlets are curious about him. Lily calls her strong and independent and wonders why she’s letting Billy use her company for his agenda. Lily says they don’t see things 100% eye to eye. Victoria asks why she’d drag a dying man through the mud. She gets that Billy is doing it for the kids. Why is Lily? Lily thinks Victoria’s making it personal. Elena interrupts and Victoria takes off. Later, they discuss Nate leaving his role at Ask MD Now. Lily asks how full Elena’s plate is. Elena is surprised that he suggested her as a replacement. Elena’s taken aback. She’s been so busy at the hospital and needs to think of it. Lily gives her time.
Nate finds Ashland stumbling while adding creamer to his coffee at Crimson Lights. “Are you okay?” the doctor asks. Ashland is shaky when he tries to say he’s fine but Nate can see through his bravado and asks, “Let me take you out of here.”

At Victoria’s, Nate can tell Ash is in rough shape. Ash hopes he can keep this quiet. Nate will. He offers to talk or get him a referral to someone to talk. He gives him vitamin samples that will help with his energy level. Ashland thinks that’s kind but he must have more important things to do than tucking him in. Nate says he’s off duty. He’s sure that Ash didn’t want anyone to see him struggle, but he also knows that chemo doesn’t care about appearances. Ashland admits he’s starting to realize that. “When you project invincibility, people start seeing you that way. It’s funny how it all fades so fast.” Nate understands. He shares how he came to have a hand injury that kept him from performing surgery. He had to be honest about his limitations and ask for help. “It’s not a sign of weakness.” Ash thinks the doc sounds like Victoria. Nate goes and Victoria turns up. Ashland lies about how easy chemo was today. He is quick to admit he lied and that Nate brought him home. Victoria’s sorry. Ash admits for the first time he realized he might not be able to handle this.

Elena meets Nate at Crimson Lights. She tells him she just learned he quit Ask MD Now and suggested her as a replacement. “When do you start?” He asks. She hasn’t responded yet. He argues that she’s perfect for it. He feigns symptoms to show her she’s perfect for the job. “I have a pain. It’s heavy like deadweight and hard to carry.” He points to his heart. “As soon as I walked in and saw you it vanished,” he says. She giggles and diagnoses him as a charmer.
Rey and Sharon arrive at the hospital to tell Mariah and Abby that Stitch went to the facility and stole a doctor’s ID there and used it to take Max out. Nobody noticed until this morning. Mariah’s angry, thinking he’ll get away with this but Rey assures that he’s on the case. Abby worries about Stitch and Max, causing Mariah to wonder why the hell she’d care about him at all. It makes her sad, she admits. Mariah has enough anger for them all. “I want him behind bars, where he belongs.” Everyone’s gone when Tessa visits and promises to help her girlfriend through this. “You are safe and loved.” Abby appears with the application for a birth certificate. They need a baby name. “Dominic Philip Newman Abbott Chancellor.” The women like it. “There’s a D in there for Devon and an M in there for Mariah.” Abby goes home and Tessa wants to take her gal outside for air since she’s been so cooped up. They laugh about the five or seven names Abby gave her child. Mariah cries that Bowie Dominic was her “reason for living and now… I don’t know how to let go.” Tessa hugs her.

Billy goes back to work and Lily tells him that his ex called her a sellout who lets him do whatever he wants around there. Lily worries he’s doing irreparable damage to his relationship with his ex by continuing to dig into her new beau’s past.
At the Chancellor estate, Devon learns Abby named her baby Dominic. He likes it. She repeats her mantra, “There’s a D in there for Devon and an M in there for Mariah.” He laughs it up.
