The Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Wednesday, August 17, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Wednesday, August 18. In the previous episode, Phyllis kicked Sally out of the hotel. In this episode, Billy and Nick worry for Victoria, Mariah goes stir crazy, and Victor agrees to look into Ashland’s past.
In the room, Mariah feels the baby and talks to him, calling him Bowie. She thinks he can feel she’s anxious and she admits she’s going stir crazy. She looks at the camera which is now covered. She thought that would lure their captors in the open, but that hasn’t happened. Someone went to a lot of trouble to keep them in there and she needs to know why. At least she has protein bars for her and supplements for the kid. It must be someone who knows her. She wonders if Sharon has been contacted and then wonders if it’s about the kid, not her at all. “You are a Chancellor, Newman, Abbott.” She wonders if it’s Ian who has her.
Tessa arrives at Crimson Lights after seeing her sister Crystal. She’s fine and has no idea who is targeting Mariah. Sharon admits there’s more disturbing information they’ve learned. Rey explains that Mariah hasn’t used credit cards or made a single call since she has been gone. They think whoever took her was texting. Rey’s begun an official investigation. Tessa cries. She’s more terrified. Sharon starts to choke up. Her daughter needed her and she didn’t even know. She cries while Tessa said she’s always had a feeling in the pit of her stomach that something was wrong. She rationalized it. Rey comforts them both and vows to find Mariah.

At the mansion, Abby worries to Devon about what’s going on with Mariah. Her mind keeps going to a bad place. Devon’s sorry. He reached out to Christine about Chance. There’s been a development in his case that forced him to lie extra low. “What kind of development?”
Abby asks, hands wrapped around herself. Devon knows it’s frustrating. Christine will look into it more. He hopes she understands why he had to ask. “You shouldn’t have. You were out of line,” Abby snipes. It’s one thing to suggest a video diary but for him to reach out to Chance without discussing this with her? She doesn’t want him to be pressured to come home. Devon thinks he should know all the facts. Her husband should know what’s going on with Mariah and he should be with her right now. Later, they all get the same text. “Thanks for checking on me. Love you all. xx” Sharon wonders who they are, from the cafe, while Abby and Tessa are surprised to see Stitch show up at her door. He can see something is wrong and she tells him Mariah’s still missing. He hugs her.
At the ranch, Nikki shares with Victor that their daughter has chosen a theme for their wedding. “The History of the Palazzo.” She wants a lavish affair with everyone from hers and Ashland’s social circle. It surprised Nikki. Victor asks if it’s surprise or disapproval. Victor likes the idea and he thinks Ashland is the right man. He thinks she should have her grand affair. Nikki agrees, if Ashland’s treatment isn’t a success, they should let them enjoy their time together. “Sky is the limit,” Victor says, as far as money goes.
Nick finds Ashland getting takeout from Society. He heard that he let Jack take Harrison to Milan. He admires his choice, knowing how hard it had to be. Ash thinks it was the right choice. Nick heard he and his sister became engaged. Ash says they’re marrying in October. He expects blowback from Nick but Nick’s congratulatory. He knows the engagement has obstacles and doesn’t want her hurt. Ashland wonders why they think of her as fragile. She’s strong. Nick agrees. But she’s made some questionable choices when it comes to love. He points at Billy, “Well look at that. There’s one of them now.” Ash asks, “Are you implying that I’m one of those mistakes?” Nick apologizes. He didn’t mean to insult him. Ash isn’t Billy and Victoria doesn’t need to justify her actions. He loves her with everything he has and he thinks she feels the same. Nick believes him. Ash politely asks him to stop passing judgment on her life and her heart. He goes and Billy pops up and starts talking about Victoria and his reservations about her marrying Ashland. Nick has the same reservations but thinks Billy’s are coming from a place of jealousy. Billy reminds Nick that she’s the mother of his kids. Just like Sharon is to Nick’s.

At home, Victoria has set the mood for romance in the dining room. Ashland comments on it, saying he’d have come home earlier if he knew this was waiting for him. They pour the wine and she shows him the Newman Palazo. He’s in awe. It’s gorgeous like his bride-to-be. Someone arrives and she tells him to show whomever it is out. “You’ve got company,” he says. Victoria finds Billy in the living room. He wanted to clear up a few things with Ash about the story. Victoria thinks he should make an appointment with his assistant. Ash agrees. “I’m kind of enjoying her watching her tell you off. No offense.” Billy says okay. He’ll leave them to it. “Have a good evening.” He goes and Victoria apologizes that everyone has boundary issues with her. After dinner, they sit on the sofa and kiss.
At the Chancellor estate, Sharon and Tessa appear to talk to Devon and Abby about the news regarding Mariah and how Ray’s on top of the investigation. Devon is ready to go and Abby says she appreciates what he’s done and understands why he reached out. She doesn’t need to know what he’s doing and is happy he’s making this world a better place. Devon knows that he’s doing everything he can to get back to her. Later, the women use the last text from Mariah, where she told them all to back off, to reply to. They all want to text her at once. Sharon texts to apologize for upsetting her. Abby texts to apologize and offers supportive words and then Tessa says she’ll send one to tell her she meant well and to take as much time as she needs. They hope that whoever has her doesn’t suspect they know anything is up. Once Sharon’s gone, Tessa comforts Abby as she goes off the rails.
Nick arrives at the ranch to discuss his sister’s love life and what he said to Ashland about his doubts. He realized he doesn’t know much about Ashland’s past and Billy came by and could see that he’s not on board with this. “You bonded with Billy Boy Abbott on this issue?” Nick says no, but he’s still concerned. Nick asks his dad to use his resources and dig into Ashland’s past. His father agrees. “Before the wedding date,” Victor says.
Devon meets Rey at Crimson Lights to ask if he can donate a reward in finding Mariah. Rey thinks that could put her in more danger. He asks how bad Rey thinks the situation is. Rey thinks it’s someone from her past, like Alice Johnson. Rey heads to the station to work on another case. Devon calls someone to meet as soon as possible.
Victor finds Billy at Society and tells him to stay out of his daughter’s life. She’s no longer a concern to him.
