The Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Tuesday, August 17, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Wednesday, August 18. In the previous episode, Nikki warned Sally to behave and not mess with her family. In this episode, Gloria wants Sally’s old job, Phyllis kicks Sally out of her hotel, and Harrison says goodbye.
At the manse, Jack tells Harrison all about how they’re taking a jet to Milan and that there will be toys and cartoons and movies on the trip. When Jack asks who Harry thinks they’re going to see, Harrison says, “Mommy!” Jack’s smile falters. She won’t be there but they’ll see her soon. They’re there to see Daddy Kyle. He boasts that Summer found a gelato place. “It’s kind of like ice cream,” Grandpa Jack clarifies. Harry wants to bring his toy, Zippy. Jack got Zippy his own passport. The kid looks at it. He’s ready for their big adventure.
Adam calls Chloe into his office. In her memo she copied Chelsea who isn’t officially on board. “That doesn’t mean it’s not a done deal,” Chloe argues. She calls it a safe deal. “Well, semi-safe. You’re still here.” She comments on him hitting it off with Sally at Crimson Lights. Adam calls her smart but she had an interesting conversation with Phyllis. “She’s not a fan.” Chloe thinks that sounds like a badge of honor. Adam again reminds Chloe she’s sending official documents to someone who doesn’t work there. Until she’s on payroll, nothing confidential or proprietary in those emails. Chloe tells him to go home because he’s sounding reasonable.

Phyllis texts Jack and when Sally appears, to report a robbery, Phyllis points at her suitcases. “You’re being evicted. I’m throwing you out on your California butt.” She tells Sally to leave as soon as possible. Sally argues that she can’t do this but Phyllis reminds the other redhead that she has the right to deny service to anyone — who bugs the hell out of her. Sally runs upstairs to ensure they packed everything and Jack turns up. “Is there a problem?” Phyllis says, “Not anymore.” Sally returns, angry and tosses down her key card. She sees Jack and bitches about being booted out of Grand Phoenix but Jack can’t blame Phyllis. He tells her he thinks Sally knows that this could have been so different. “You got greedy,” he tells her, and it cost Summer and Kyle. Sally argues that Summer got her dream job because of her. Jack warns if she messes with another member of his family, he won’t be so calm next time. Sally blames Phyllis for trying to control him. She’ll never forget what Red did. Sally’s sorry things didn’t work out for her and Jack. She takes her things and clumsily drags them out the door. Phyllis says it doesn’t make things better, kicking Sally out. Her kid is still in Milan. Jack reminds her that Summer is doing this out of choice. She should be grateful for that. Phyllis is grateful. She loves him for always knowing what to say to her. She agrees, she should respect her power of choice. Jack gets it. Maybe they’ll enjoy Harrison so much they’ll have a child together. Phyllis can see he likes being a grandfather. Jack really does. Phyllis tears up, missing Summer. She has half a mind to hitch a ride with him to Milan. Jack says there’s room but Phyllis can’t. She has a gift for him to bring Summer. She’ll stop by later and give it to him. He’d be happy to. She saved him from making a big mistake with Sally. He owes her.
At Society, Gloria and Lauren take a meeting. She wants to get a bottle of champagne. Lauren reminds Glo this is a business lunch. Glo thinks it’s best to order it. She wants her daughter-in-law to wish her luck. “Lauren, this is my last day as your assistant.” Lauren looks up at the ceiling. She’s not happy.

At Crimson Lights, Rey and Michael discuss Mariah’s disappearance. Michael doesn’t think there’s anything to it but Rey says there are too many irregularities. She didn’t pack, or use her credit cards or make a single call. “Mariah is in trouble and she needs our help.” Michael thinks about it and they come up with possible suspects who have an axe to grind with Sharon.

Michael comes upon Gloria and Lauren looking glum. Michael asks what’s up. Gloria tells them JVC is without a leader since Sally was fired. It needs inspired leadership. Glo wants the job. Lauren’s surprised. Michael chuckles at his mother. “You can’t be serious.” Why would Lauren hand a plum job like that to her? Lauren reminds Glo that Sally had experience. Glo does too. She details her abilities. Michael smirks. Gloworm went up in flames. Glo touts her skills and says best of all, she won’t spend her time plotting behind Lauren’s back. She wants to implement an athletic company. Lauren admits she likes that. Glo asks for time to show what she can do. Michael looks like he wants to strangle her and when she goes, Lauren asks what just happened. “Did she just accept the job that wasn’t offered — again?” A server arrives with champagne. Later, Lauren gripes about having to fire Sally when she was so good at her job. They flirt a little and drink to romance out there for everyone.

Rey goes to Adam’s office. When did he last have contact with Mariah Copeland? Adam can’t really recall. He asks why. Rey says she’s been out of town a while. Adam assumes that Rey thinks she’s disappeared and he’s a suspect. He recalls last seeing her when he donated his kidney to Faith. Why would he have Mariah? Rey thinks he could be lashing out at Sharon for not returning his love. Adam says he’s grasping at straws. He thought they were moving in a better direction but obviously, Rey’s dying to pin something on him. “The odds are in my favor that I will,” Rey says, confidently. He asks how Chelsea and Connor are. Adam doesn’t have time for this. Chloe and Sally poke their heads in and interrupt. They’re headed out for coffee.
At Crimson Lights, Sally asks Chloe what happened with Rey and Adam. Chloe covers up her nervousness about Rey and asks why Sally had her suitcases at work. Sally is leaving the hotel. Chloe hopes she’s not leaving. That hasn’t crossed her mind. She wants to make a few people sorry for doubting her. Gloria appears. She’s sorry she didn’t get to say goodbye. She touts how good of a job she did and asks where she got the talent of knowing what young people want. Sally shrugs. It helps to be a young person. Gloria looks put out. Chloe takes her coffee and heads to the other room with Sally, trying to get rid of Glo. Sally thinks it was nice of Glo but Chloe knows her mother-in-law. “That wasn’t her being nice. There was an agenda.” They head back to work, while Gloria looks deep in thought.
Back at Jack’s, Ashland talks to Harrison about going on the plane. Ash asks the kid to promise to take video calls with him and listen to Daddy Kyle, who loves him very much. Ashland starts to get choked up and Jack sends Harrison to get his backpack to give Ash a minute. Is he okay? Ashland admits he’s not okay but this is the way it has to be. It doesn’t make it easier. Jack admires his approach. “I’m rash, self-serving, impetuous and sometimes I’m just downright mean.” He loves that boy and will always choose to do what’s best for him. Jack says they have that in common. He offers to take him to Milan but Ash says the flight to New York wiped him out. He goes to say goodbye to his boy. Once he’s gone, Phyllis brings Jack a gift for Summer. He is overcome with emotion when he sees it’s a photo of Phyllis with Summer as a baby. “Just the two of us,” is inscribed below. He’ll happily deliver this. They both fight tears and remind themselves of her bright future.
Back at the office, Sally and Chloe go to Adam’s office. He asks about the suitcases. Sally says they’re hers. He assumes Phyllis gave her the heave-ho. She jokes that Phyllis charges too much for that dump anyway. She promises the suitcases will be gone by the end of the day. She goes and Adam shares that Mariah’s missing. Chloe worries. She goes and Adam texts Sharon that he heard the news and offers his help.
