Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for Tuesday, December 21, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Wednesday, December 22. (Recaps live by 5:45 PM EST daily.) In the previous episode, Billy and Lily faked a fight and Sally defied Victor. In this episode of CBS’ The Young and the Restless, it’s Christmas Eve and everyone is headed to Abby and Chance’s place to celebrate, even Phyllis, which doesn’t go over well with Abby. Meanwhile, Devon and Amanda discuss their Christmas as they wrap gifts.
Devon wraps presents while Amanda is on a call with Imani about Christmas. She disconnects and she and Devon talk about their Christmas celebrations they’re looking forward to. Devon has a gift for Dominic. He thinks he’ll respond to the lights and colors. Devon hopes the baby remembers him.
Amanda thinks he misses him and those short visits won’t make up for the one-on-one-time he’d like to spend with him. She asks if he’ll ask Abby and Chance to have some alone time with the boy. He asks her to stop pushing. He’ll wait until after the holidays. She tells him this makes her love him more. They kiss.
At home, Abby shares Esther’s Christmas card for Dominic, and one from Summer, Kyle and Harrison. Chance is thrilled their son has so much love and support. Abby wants to go to mass tonight. They snuggle and look at Dominic’s first Christmas elephant ornament on their tree. They rehash their difficult year and are glad they made it through. Traci arrives, laden with packages. Abby thinks she mugged Santa and stole his presents.
They all laugh and Traci says they’re from all of the Abbotts. Abby says they’re making a donation in Dominic’s name this y ear instead of doing gifts. Traci looks at them as though they’ve two heads and Abby begins to laugh. She’s kidding. Traci laughs and says that there are family heirlooms and sentimental gifts this year. Abby learns Ashley’s hoping to get home tonight. Chance goes to care for the kid since he’s crying and Traci asks how things are, really.
Abby assures Trace that they’re fine. Chance is eager to connect with Dom. Everything will be perfect. Traci insists things don’t need to be perfect. Chance returns with the baby and tells him he’s happy he made it home to spend Christmas with his son. He talks to him about Christmas and opens a card from Kim, who helped him get home to his son.
He reads the lovely message where she tells him to put everything behind him and focus on the future and to believe in his heart that there are brighter days ahead. He takes in a few sharp breaths and shakes his head. He hopes Dom can forgive him for being gone for so long. He wanted to be there for him.
Mariah and Tessa walk into Crimson Lights, surprised to see one another. They’ve packages and can’t believe that each lied to the other about what they were doing to go Christmas shopping. They sit and have cookies and talk about the gifts they bought others.
Tessa admits she bought a onesie for Dominic. Mariah confesses she got him more than a few gifts. Tess knows their gifts are hard to resist. Mariah is in awe. She assumes Tessa’s more ready to discuss having one of their own. Tessa looks away and Mariah tells her there’s lots of time.

At Society, Jack and Phyllis say Merry Christmas to one another. Phyllis is sad that Summer and Kyle wont’ get their presents until New Year’s Day. She’s a little emotional but Jack says it’s better late than never. Traci brought a mountain of gifts to the Jabot house, he tells her.
She tries to put a brave face on and tells him it sounds like it’ll be a great celebration but Jack sees through her. “I know you, Red. I know when you’re hurting.” She cries as she admits she misses Summer, Kyle and Harrison, even though she doesn’t know him well. Jack identifies. He asks if she misses Nick. “Yes…and no.”
She’s sad about the break up but it hasn’t broken her. She misses both Nick and Christian but the break up had to happen. She hates wallowing and stops. He invites her to Christmas at Abby and Chance’s. She doesn’t think Abby would like that. Jack thinks their hotel wars are behind them.
Mariah and Tessa arrive at the Chancellor estate with presents. Mariah tells Dominic that he’s missing out on Christmas cookies this year. Tessa chats with the baby. Once they’ve gone, Abby looks for the perfect onesie. Jack and Phyllis arrive. Abby’s stunned. She glares at Jack.
Phyllis gives them eggnog. “It’s from The Grand Phoenix, my hotel.” She calls it their signature blend. Abby shoots her a glance and thanks her. Abby looks weirded out when Phyllis fawns over the baby. Traci questions Phyllis once they’re alone. She asks if she and Jack are a thing or if she and Jack aren’t together because she won’t go there or he won’t. Phyllis admits she and Jack are just friends.
She won’t say more only because she wants everyone else to wonder what’s going on between them. Later, Abby goes to Phyllis. She can’t believe she fought her over a building. “It’s not a building,” Phyllis says. Abby shrugs. She’d rather be a parent. Phyllis gives her parenting advice. Her kids are amazing, she says and urges Abby to be her authentic self. Abby’s physically and emotional exhausted. “Join the club,” Phyllis says.
Nearby, Jack tells Chance that he can see he’s struggling with missing out on being with Dom. Chance admits he is. Jack asks him to let go of the guilt and celebrate that he’s here now. Chance holds Dom as they talk and kisses the baby’s arm. Later, the family has left when Amanda and Devon turn up with gifts. They take in the big pile. “We have everything under the tree except for Frankincense and Myrrh.”
They exchange gifts and Devon says a Merry Christmas to Dominic. Devon gives the baby his gift. Neil bought this music box for the baby that he and Hilary were supposed to have that plays his favorite jazz song. Abby says they can’t take that but Devon wants him to have it. “He’s going to cherish it forever,” Abby says. Chance thinks that’s cool of him. They play the music and then Amanda and Devon leave. Nina video calls to wish them a Merry Christmas. Chance goes up to wrap Abby’s gifts later while the baby sleeps in Abby’s arms.
Back at Crimson Lights, Mariah tells Tessa that Bowie looks bigger. Tessa smiles and asks if her heart is set on having a biological baby. Mariah’s amazed. She hasn’t consider it. Tessa asks who would be pregnant if they went that route. What about a donor? Mariah’s eyes widen. “You need to slow down.” Tessa wants to make a plan.
Mariah knows how hesitant she’s been. Tessa didn’t want to replace Bowie. She watched her today and thinks she made peace with Bowie and his parents. Maybe they can put their own child first. “That’s what I want. To start a family with you…”
Tessa wants to consider adoption and get a kid out of a bad situation and give them a stable home. Mariah’s astounded that they can do this with the mistakes they’ve made. They talk about how wonderful having their own baby will be as they gaze at each other. They kiss and hug.
At Grand Phoenix, Jack asks Phyllis if she’ll come for Christmas dinner tomorrow. She doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Ashley will draw blood. “That would be a holiday disaster.” Jack disagrees. Phyllis doesn’t want to blow up their friendship. Jack insists she dines with him.
At home, Devon is touched when Amanda gifts him Dominic’s footprints in a frame.
