At The Invader office, Alexis writes down a top from a reporter about the gunfire on the pier. Before she can rush out, Nina arrives with Adrian DeWitt (played by Dietrich Gray).
Nina explains that he’s a popular columnist. Alexis assumes he’s s gossip columnist and makes it clear she doesn’t approve.
Nina is sure that having Adrian on board could bring in lots of readers and that would mean more money for other stories.
Adrian isn’t surprised that Alexis is so disdainful and explains that gossip can be subversive, not just vapidity. It takes a brave publication to recognize that.
Alexis is impressed by how he’s framing this and they shake as she promises to be in touch.
Once he exits, Nina prompts Alexis to tell her she was right. Alexis thought she was supposed to have final approval.
She’s still not totally sold on the column but Nina says this is settled. Alexis still isn’t sold on the publisher.
Nina tells her different doesn’t necessarily mean bad. Alexis is not questioning her creativity or success, but her motivations.
Nina admits she’ll just have to trust her. Can she do that? Without trust, this won’t work.
“Which of us will go first?” Alexis asks.
She gets a call and then tells Nina that an officer is down. It’s Dante.
