Thurs Jan 4, 2024: Today on General Hospital, Carly lashes out; Sonny encounters Cyrus at the church; Joss and Dex find a drunken Adam; Curtis has a romantic surprise for Portia; Laura has a realization
Wednesday’s GH recap: Nikolas Returns and Wants Ava’s Help Getting Revenge on Esme, and Furious Sonny Sends Nina to Apologize to Grieving Carly
Nurse Rachel and Portia talk about their New Year’s Resolutions at the nurses’ hub, hopeful that having to work isn’t an omen.
Portia goes to her office to Curtis holding a single rose.
He wants to ring in the new year with the woman he loves.
He brings out the lemon donuts and she calls him the best.
He’s impressed that she’s happy to work on New Year’s.
They can sleep in but she’s too excited about his surgery.
If it works, he could be on the road to walking.
He looks tense What if it doesn’t work? She’ll love him no matter what.
He tells her if it does, he wants to pick her up and take her to bed and “make love” to her.
She sits in his lap and they canoodle.
Joss and Dex arrive at her dorm room and talk about how 2024 is going to be a good year.
They hear scuffling at the door and Dex opens it to a very inebriated Adam, who thinks they’re in his room.
They tell him it’s Joss’ room.
He’s barely able to stand so they haul him inside and sit him down.
Since he’s not a drinker, Joss asks what’s going on. He tells her it’s all over His parents know the truth about him. That his grades suck. Jos reminds him of all his great marks but they’re pulling him out of PC and sending him to a local college.
They won’t pay if he’s not performing up to their standards so he went to the frat party to forget for a while.
“Why am I such a screw-up?”
At Cafe Cherie, Laura cries as she thinks of the kids and that they’ve all lost Bobbie.
Lucky’s out there searching for something, “Some part of himself, I think.”
She bemoans that the Spencers have lost a lot already. Kevin’s sorry.
Ace’s babysitter calls and asks if she’s heard from Esme since she’s an hour late.
Laura worries, while outside, Esme realizes she’s lost a glove and heads inside to get a drink.
Laura’s relieved to see her but asks where she has been.
Later, Esme calls the babysitter to tell her she’ll be right home.
Laura finds it a simple miscommunication.
Kevin brings Esme some cocoa and hands over her glove.
Esme thanks him but it won’t do her any good since she lost the other.
Laura gasps. She knows where it is. She dropped it at Wyndemerre when she broke in on Christmas Eve!
Kevin gives them space while Esme tells Laura she learned from Elizabeth Baldwin that it’s where Nikolas kept her captive and she wanted to see if she’d remember anything.
She never should have damaged the property and will pay for the broken glass.
Laura’s sorry she had a rough night. She should have told her. Esme apologizes. Laura asks if she remembered anything.
She denies remembering anything at all. Laura says she’ll need to turn herself in.
Esme freaks out. Laura says she’ll get a fine and community service. Esme cries.
Laura says they’ll go tomorrow morning. Esme’s shocked she’s going with her.
Laura would never make her do something so awful by herself.
Nikolas tells Ava that Esme only came to Port Charles to ruin their lives and it’s time for payback.
They’ll do it together. He thinks it’ll give them closure and that she’ll find it… satisfying.
He makes sexual innuendos and she tells him that’s all over. 
He threatened her daughter. Nikolas didn’t mean it, but barks out that she calmly moved his body, thinking he was dead.
She snaps that she panicked the whole time. She didn’t want to think she killed him.
He thinks that’s something and knows they’ve had a toxic relationship.
He still wants to get rid of Esme. She asks if by ‘get rid of’ he means kill.
He doesn’t want to kill her, just get her out of their lives.
She asks what he expects her to do. He comes closer and tells her he has trouble concentrating when he’s near her. She smiles.
What’s he doing? He’s remembering the good times. She smiles.
There were only a couple and those days are over. He was hoping she couldn’t resist him.
She finds that amusing and tells him not to flatter himself. He’s quite resistible.
He tells her to throw him a party and invite Esme but Ava doesn’t know why she’d show.
She asks what kind of party it should be. He thinks she’ll figure it out.
Outside, Willow is shocked to hear that Michael was blackmailing Nina.
He thought it best to mitigate the damage by not telling her.
Willow can’t get over that he went behind her back and interfered with her relationship with her mother.
He denies it but she cries and tells him to stop. Instead of letting her make up her own mind over Nina, he blackmailed her.
If he was that worried about her influence over the kids, why not say so?
He wanted to and went to Sonny and couldn’t do it so he made a deal with Nina of when she could see the kids. “You had no right!” Willow yells.
Nina arrives at Carly’s. There’s something she needs to tell her.
Carly lets her in and when Nina sees Drew, she realizes it’s good timing.
Drew says he has to make a decision and shows her his phone.
Carly tells him anything he wants is fine, so he takes off into the other room while Nina tells her that she’s done making excuses for herself.
Carly just tells her to blurt it out. She admits she tipped off the SEC to her insider trading. Carly tries to wrap her mind around the news as she repeats it.
“You’re the reason Drew went to prison. You took Drew from his daughter.” Nina bites back. “You took my daughter from me.”
Carly reminds her Drew was almost beaten to death. “And you’re still the victim?”
Nina says she felt like her family’s punching bag and got mad and lashed out. Carly snipes that kids lash out. Drew’s been decent to her. Nina says the harsh sentence never should have happened.
Nina knows she’ll never forgive her but she’s setting the record straight. “Why!”
Carly demands. Nina felt terrible that they thought Ned called on them and the guilt ate her alive. She didn’t know how to fix it. Carly doubts that she felt regret. “You got busted, huh!”
She asks who knows and learns Sonny does and that he’s pissed. Carly gets it.
She snitched on his family. Nina never meant for this to happen.
Carly thinks she’s only there because she doesn’t want to lose Sonny.
She’s selfish and hurts those around her. Nina calls that unfair.

Carly calls her a selfish bitch and she hopes she rots in hell. Nina thinks Carly should be happy that she made herself the bad guy for her.
Carly says she has nobody to blame but herself. She can’t come back from this.
Nina knows Sonny values loyalty over everything. Carly will never forgive her.
Drew returns as she says that Nina doubts Willow will. Drew approaches and asks what they’re talking about.
She fills him in and Drew stares. Is that so? What’s he supposed to do now? She doesn’t get it.
He can’t hit her but calls her vile and a hypocrite. She was nice to Scout and knew she put her dad in prison.
Her kids will find out. “No!” She says. He doesn’t think she cares about her kids.
She reminds them they did commit a crime and reminds Carly she kept the truth from her about both her daughters.
Carly screams to stop. She can’t handle this tonight.
“My mom died.” Nina’s shocked. She’s so sorry.
Carly doesn’t think she cares and kicks her out. Once she’s gone, Carly sobs that Nina exists and her mom can’t.
“Why is my mom gone?” Drew holds her.
Later, he calls Joss to come home because Carly needs to talk to her.
Joss gets Dex to stay with Adam and takes off home.
At the church, Cyrus sounds Sonny praying and tells him to give his burden to God.
The truth will set him free. Sonny scoffs. He’ll never buy his love of religion. Not tonight of all nights.
Cyrus realizes Nina must have come clean abut turning Carly and Drew into the SEC.
Cyrus explains he found out and offered his counsel.
Sonny punches his face and Cyrus spouts off some scripture so he punches him again.
Cyrus is belted pretty hard as Sonny breaks his lip open.
“I forgive you,’ Cyrus says, causing Sonny to punch him so he spins around and lands on a pew. 
Sonny starts laying him to him, begging him to fight back as he beats him.
Sonny returns home with a bottle and bloody fists.
He sets the bottle down and stares at it and flashes back to Nina apologizing.
He sets the booze aside.
Ava arrives home and sees the alcohol.
She sits with him and asks where Nina is.
“Gone,” he says.
Nina tells him to clean up. Avery can’t see him like this.
He goes off to another room and Nina turns up.
How’s Sonny?
Ava realizes she told the truth about the SEC and doesn’t think she should be there.
Nina says she just came from telling Carly and Drew.
Sonny appears and she cries as he closes the door in her face.
Back outside, Willow says Michael didn’t trust that she couldn’t protect herself.
She thought they were partners.
She needs time to sift through this and asks him to sleep elsewhere tonight.
When Drew calls, she goes home alone and he takes the call.
Back at Cafe Cherie, Laura gets a call from Curtis who tells her she’d better get to General Hospital.
“It’s about your brother.”
Once Joss has left, Dex shares that his parents didn’t see him for who he was either and he could have used Joss as a friend back then.
Adam finds it odd he can relate.
Dex says things got better when he enlisted and got out of his parent’s house.
There’s a big world out there. Things get better. He puts Adam to bed.
Michael and Joss arrive home to Carly’s together. Drew lets them in and they head to the living room to ask their mom what happened.
She tells them Grandma passed away. Tears in her eyes, she explains that Grandma was staying at Uncle Luke’s and went to sleep and never woke up.
The kids cry and remember her as their rock. What will they do without her? She’s not sure but they’ll do it together.
Laura arrives at the hospital and learns that Cyrus was found at All Saints Chapel.
She goes into his room where Cyrus is unconscious.
Laura gasps in horror. She wants to know who did this.
Esme leaves the cafe and Nikolas stalks her.
