Friday, April 9, 2020: On today’s full episode recap of Days of our Lives, Tripp tells his mother he didn’t shoot Charlie, John visits Jan, and Sami tells Lucas that things in her marriage are not going well.
Sami lays on her bed at Marlena’s looking at her rings. Lucas knocks. Sami lets him in. She didn’t want to get stuck in a conversation with “That woman. She just goes on and on.” They talk about her confession. She swears she won’t confess to a murder she didn’t commit again. Lucas laughs. It’s good to see her back to her old self. They eat potato chips and Lucas suggests they go to the pub for ‘clam chowdah’. She doesn’t want to have to explain what happened when she confessed. Sami appreciates Lucas being there for her. Lucas is sure she wants to get back to EJ. Sami sighs. She doesn’t know what she wants to do. She’ll stay in Salem a while longer. She’s not sure she has anything to go back to Italy for. Lucas offers to listen. Sami reluctantly says she set her mind on making things happen with EJ. Helping him get healthy and become himself again was the most important thing she’s done. She thinks he’s been through too much. The captivity, the drugs Kristen fed him, and the fire. “I don’t know if he can ever be EJ again.” When Johnny moved out and Sydney went off to school, it was just the two of them. Things changed. Sami realizes she’s telling him all this and gets cold feet. Lucas reminds her he’s on her side. He pretends he’s not in pain and he’s angry at the pain, being helpless and at the world. Sami gets it. But it feels as though he’s mad at her. She knows intellectually it’s not true but it’s hard. It’s not just the pain. “It’s like there’s something that got twisted up inside of him and now he just pushes me away.” Sami cries. Lucas thinks that sounds like hell. Lucas says EJ wasn’t a giving person before. “That’s not true.” Sami disagrees. If someone is drowning and you let go, that’s not pushing them away, that’s called survival,” Lucas tells his ex. Sami tells Lucas EJ doesn’t look at her with love anymore. He doesn’t touch her anymore. Maybe she has to come to terms with the fact she’ll never be loved again. Lucas hugs her. That’s ridiculous. Anyone would be lucky to have her. Sami sits up and Lucas leans in. They share a kiss that turns passionate. Sami backs up. Lucas asks, “What are we doing?” Sami doesn’t know. They resume their kiss.

Allie drops by Kayla’s to see Tripp. He and Steve are picking up his things since he’s moving back in. Kayla goes to get tea and they talk about teathing babies and how Henry loves Tripp. Kayla’s glad they’ve worked things out.
At Ava’s apartment, Steve and Tripp box up his things. Steve didn’t see Ava giving up the apartment coming. Her cutting ties with the Vitali money took him aback, not cutting ties with the family so much. Steve apologizes, knowing Tripp loves her. Tripp says he’s changed. “Now that Rafe doesn’t have to deal with the Sami show, maybe now he can focus on who really killed your brother.” Tripp tells his dad that he went to see Charlie that night.

At Rafe’s, he thinks Ava’s still keeping a secret. She admits Tripp was there that night. Nicole urged her to tell Rafe but Ava was raised not to trust the cops, let alone turn her son in. She saw Tripp leaving and then she went inside. Charlie was already shot. Rafe reminds her that Tripp is innocent until guilty. He’ll do all he can to help him as will Steve. Ava feels terrible.
In the hospital, Marlena and Belle aren’t happy that John is visiting Jan. Jan can make Gandhi want to strangle her. He hasn’t had any issues lately, so she’s not worried. Marlena’s jaw drops as she recalls John saying that he lost some time and heard the gunshot the night of Charlie’s murder. John steps into Jan’s room and whispers that they’ve unfinished business. He takes her hand. “I came to apologize.” Jan struggles and he lets go. He tries to explain that he lost it the night he strangled her. “Yeah. I know. I was there.” He’s truly sorry. Jan believes him and admits one could say she provoked him. It doesn’t let him off the hook so if Belle insists on pressing charges against her, she’ll do the same to John. He goes and John appears at Belle and Marlena’s side. Belle and John argue and Marlena tells them quietly to shut up. They’ll finish this at the pub. She and John go while Belle goes to Jan, who is bummed out that there is no drink menu at the hospital. Belle tells Jan that her father “only did what anyone who has ever met you wanted to do.” Belle will accept Jan’s deal. No charges will be pressed and her father skates. Jan grins. Belle tells her to sign an agreement. She puts one in her hands that she drew up. Jan won’t sign so Belle reminds her it’ll be hard on her in prison. Jan signs, pouting. She notes that Belle is missing a red button on her coat. Belle wonders where she lost that.

Ava and Rafe arrive at Steve and Kayla’s. Allie tries to text Tripp not to come home but Steve and Tripp arrive. Ava says she had to tell Rafe about the night Charlie was killed. Tripp hugs her. He knows. She’s only trying to protect him. She’s confused. He thinks she killed Charlie. Ava says she didn’t. She told Rafe she saw Tripp leaving Charlie’s. Tripp says Charlie never answered the door. He didn’t shoot him. Ava hugs him, grateful. “And here we go again,” Rafe says, clutching at his head. They should have told him about this. They’ve held up this case considerably. Steve defends them but Rafe says he could have found the killer already if it wasn’t for them.
At the pub, John and Marlena argue about whether Belle should accept Jan’s deal. Marlena calls him stubborn when he says Belle shouldn’t accept the deal. John has to wonder if he’ll go to prison anyway for killing Charlie. Marlena won’t hear this.
At home, Rafe and Ava continue to argue about her not telling him the truth. Ava decides to go to a motel. She’s sorry. Rafe tells her she doesn’t need to. She offers to make him food and he tells her to go to bed. The camera pans to his case file which includes a red button.
