Monday, July 3, 2023, Y&R day ahead episode recap: A classic Y&R episode airs today. In this episode, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) invites his family and friends to the Abbott mansion for a special July 4th celebration. This episode originally aired on July 3, 1992.
Friday’s Y&R day ahead recap: Nikki Confronted Victoria, Kyle bought Audra diamond earrings after their one-night stand, and Sharon and Nick burned Cameron’s things, making her feel empowered.

At home, Drucilla makes plans for a romantic weekend for her and Neil while on a call with someone. “Now you are talking,” she says, learning they’ll have dinner on the terrace with a violinist ready for her and Neil. She sets up a massage and tells the caller they’ve outdone themselves.
She thinks to herself that she and Neil will have a great time.
Dru calls Mr. Goodman about the centerfold he wants her to do and the test shots she says that she’ll try to fit in this week, though she has something else lined up.
When she disconnects, she thinks there will definitely be fireworks this Fourth of July.
At the Chancellor manse, Esther knows Brock wanted her to put together a picnic dinner but she’s unwell.
He notices her forehead is hot and tells her to go back to bed.
She toddles upstairs, greeting Rex on her way up.
He’s back from a run and says it’s a beautiful day for a holiday.
Katherine comes in and he runs in place and suggests they have a party.
She supposes so but is obviously down. Holidays are empty to her. She wanted Philip to come over but Nina says they have plans. Rex is sorry. Brooke appears. “Good morning Duchess.”
Katherine thinks it’s silly for her to complain when she has both of them.
She tells the men she wants to relax with a good book today and wanders off.
Rex thinks holidays remind her of the past. He offers to go see Nina to talk her into coming over.
At the Abbott kitchen, Mamie cleans as John reads the paper.
He’s considering going to the office but she tells him that’s not right.
Last year he felt the same and he had that big successful party.
John’s fine with doing it again only if she hires a caterer and is part of the party.
“Well, I guess you laid down the law, didn’t you,” she says with a smile.
He suggests they call Ashley. This will be good for her and Victor. Ashley calls and he tells her about the party. She’s in and has something to tell him anyway. John says to bring Victor.
He just got out of the hospital but John doesn’t think this will be too much for him.
Later, John calls Katherine to invite her to the party. She tries to decline but Rex grabs the phone and tells the Abbott they’ll be there. He kisses her and takes off for an errand.
At the office, Neil is going through the mail when Nathan appears.
They discuss Olivia’s pregnancy and how much he’s worried about something happening to his wife. Olivia enters.
Nathan asks how she got sprung from the hospital. She says she doesn’t have to be on duty. She wants to go for a picnic at the lake with him, Neil and Dru.
She tells them not to mock her for how she looks in a bikini and Nathan hugs her. Drucilla wanders in and Neil gets on the phone with Mamie who invites him, Dru, Olivia and Nathan to the party. Neil is happy about the invitation and says he’ll invite the others.
He disconnects and everyone is thrilled to go except Dru who says she’ll go for a while.
“But I have plans,” she says, kissing Neil when he questions her.
Nina busies herself packing a picnic when Rex drops by. “Mr. Sterling,” she says, letting him in. They embrace. It’s been a while. He invites her, Ryan, and Philip over to a party and admits Katherine doesn’t know he’s there.
To Katherine, Philip is her grandson and it’d be nice if she could see him. He promises they’ll have a good time, yet she seems reluctant. Rex goes and Ryan turns up with a kiss. They missed each other.
She invites him to the party at the Abbott’s. She thinks John could work wonders for his career. She also thinks it’ll be a good time. They’ll take Philip. She talks him into it.
In her office at Jabot, Blade kisses Jill’s neck and her lips as he asks where her loyalties lie. With him or John.
She claims with him and for that, he feels she deserves a reward. He pulls out some wine and the phone rings.
John invites her to the party. She’ll try to make it, she says and they disconnect.
She seems distant and Blade assumes John was the caller. She ignores him and invites him to the party.
There may even be fireworks.
He wouldn’t miss that for the world and makes out with Jill.
At her place, Traci gets baby Colleen dressed to see her dad at the Independence Day party.
Brad asks if he’s invited. She says he was.
He seems glum about not being invited but she just learned about it.
It was an impromptu party. He was at the office, anyway.
Brad thinks she’s upset that he was at work.
She says she assumes going to the office today was important but assumed he’d be back when he was finished with whatever it was he was doing.
She wasn’t going to stay cooped up at home just because he was at work.
He huffs out a sigh and she says she’d never force him to a family gathering.
He wants to go, which surprises her.

Outside at the Abbott’s, Ashley arrives and seems upset.
John spots her from the kitchen and tells Mamie to get out of the kitchen.
He’s off to see his “beauty.” Mamie agrees to it but can’t help herself. She fixes the veggie tray, making it perfect as the caterers buzz around her.
John heads outside to greet Ashley with a hug.
He tells her he misses the kids and their wild pool parties and notices Victor’s not around.
Katherine, Rex, Gina, and Brock show up at the party. Gina closed her restaurant, she says, giving everyone the day off.
Everyone gathers around the table for munchies while Ashley covers about Victor.
He’s not coming and she doubts he’s with Nikki. John asks what it was she wanted to discuss. Ashley thinks it’ll keep.
They’ll discuss it later. Carol drops by. She’s meeting family for a picnic and says she wanted to make an appearance.
She runs off to say hi to Gina while Jill and Blade turn up.
John welcomes them and Blade calls his place lovely. Nearby, Katherine stops Rex from eating brownies and goes to talk to Jill.
Katherine greets Jill and Blade, referring to him as her handsome photography friend while John watches.
He talks to Rex about how much Katherine wants to visit with Philip.
Traci, Colleen and Brad arrive and Philip jumps into Grandma’s arms. Jill rushes up and he tells her he’s glad both his grandmas are there.
Meanwhile, Ashley spots Dru, Neil, Nathan and Ryan and Nina turn up.
As Katherine plays with Philip by the pool, Rex meets Ryan. John turns up and congratulates Ryan on his promotion while Ashley greets Traci.
Brad watches Ashley and Traci. Nathan asks if it’s too warm for Olivia and she smiles. It’s fine.
Dru tells him to stop fussing over her. “Don’t you know that females have been having babies for a long time?”
Dru takes Neil aside and tells him she’s arranged for them to take time off together to a cabin in the woods at Crystal Lake.
He tries to get out of it but she keeps talking, telling him about the whirlpool tub and the sailboat she rented.
He thinks it sounds great but he made travel plans. For her.
A promotional tour. Four cities, four days. She’s not impressed, especially when he tells her she leaves tonight. He can’t.
He’s got marketing sessions all next week. Dru’s angry.
John gets everyone’s attention for a holiday toast. He thanks them all for coming and Mamie for forcing him to have a little fun instead of moping. Mamie lifts a glass.
Brock starts singing and Gina joins him in a rendition of America The Beautiful. Everyone joins in.
