The Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Thursday, August 12, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Friday, August 13. In the previous episode, Ashland had his first chemo as Victoria updated her ex on her engagement. In this episode, Rey opens an investigation, Abby finds she’s stronger than she thought, and Victor wants to know what Ashland’s doing with his daughter.
Victoria brings fruit to Ashland as he sleeps on the sofa. He tells her that her shift is over and she’s spent too much time coddling him. She needs to ensure the merger is going well. He needs to take care of his son. He appreciates her support but when she doesn’t stop, he basically kicks her out. She tells him three more times to call if he needs anything and finally, she goes to the office. He calls Kyle. “I don’t want to play phone tag over decisions of the well-being of my son. Decisions must be made,” he says, disconnecting.

At the ranch, Victor tells Moses and Faith to enjoy the pool. He has business to take care of. Nikki takes the chance to embarrass Faith by telling Moses all about her best friend as a child which was a doll named Miss Patsy. Moses laughs and recalls having one of his own. They head out to swim and when they return, Moses goes to get her phone while Faith asks her grandmother to stop making this more than a friendship. Nikki understands. She must be waiting for something bad to happen. Faith looks uneasy. “It’s alright to be happy,” Nikki says. “Thank you,” Faith responds. Moses returns with her phone. Looks like she’s got a text from Miss Patsy.

At the Chancellor’s manse, Abby records herself talking to Chance, telling him that this is a lot tougher than she thought it’d be. She cries as she talks about Mariah and finding the strength to get through this. She knows she needs to find strength and says she’s not going to sit here anymore, waiting and worrying about him. “I hear you and I will not let you or our baby down.” She disconnects and races off.
At Crimson Lights, Nick tells Sharon he was trying to be the cool dad to Faith but Moses showed him up with the VIP backstage passes. He can tell Sharon’s distant. She admits Mariah texts but never reveals where she is. She’s beginning to think something is wrong. Nick is worried and Sharon admits even Tessa doesn’t know where she is. Sharon reads a new text from Mariah that’s harsh, telling her mother to back off of the intervention. Nick knows she can be harsh but agrees it could be a concern. Rey appears. Nick goes to talk to Victoria nearby. He heard she had news. She reveals she’s engaged. “You two are giving new meaning to the term ‘whirlwind romance’.” They discuss what this means to Victoria. Back outside, Rey explains an expert blocked Mariah’s phone. She couldn’t have done this. “What does that mean?” Could she be held against her will? Rey says they need more facts. Who would want to abduct her? Sharon mentions Ian Ward. Rey will check to see if he’s still in jail and will look into her credit card and debit purchases. He has the permission of Paul. He runs off. Abby shows up to ask Sharon about the last text from Sharon. Sharon finds it hard to admit but confesses Rey’s findings. Abby thinks Tessa’s right. Someone has her! Rey’s opening an official police investigation. Rey returns. There’s been no activity on her debit card or credit cards or her phone. Abby freaks out. “Mariah did not run away. Something bad has happened to her.”
Victor arrives at Victoria’s and asks Ashland what will happen with the merger if he lives. Ashland likes that Victor’s contemplating his future. Nobody else thinks he has one. They’ve come a long way since Victor wanted to see him die. Victor admits he just wanted him to sign the damned contract. Victor is worried about the company, not Victoria. Victor seems skeptical of his relationship but Ashland’s always behaved swiftly in everything he’s done. Victor wonders if he were to get better and then step in and head the empire, instead of Victoria. “You’re implying that I faked my fatal illness in an attempt to put together this merger. Is that what you’re saying?” Vic says, “I think you’re getting my drift.” Ash laughs. “That’s rich. I’m flattered really, that you think I could be so diabolical. Ruthless.” Ash says he really is sick and if he doesn’t believe it, he’ll get his proof if the treatment doesn’t work. He can’t read Victor. Ash asks how much time he’d wait to call 911 if he collapsed on the floor right now. Victor shrugs. Victoria walks in at that moment and Ash admits what they were discussing. She’s rocked. Victor admits it. “Dad, how could you?” Ash has no problems showing Victor his medical proof but he does love his daughter. Victor thanks him. He appreciates him clearing up his doubts. He goes and Victoria rants. Ash tells her to accept that her dad isn’t going to change. He suggests a walk in the woods. Before they go, Jack calls.

At Chancellor Park, Faith is sorry her gran talked about her dolls but she loved hearing about Reggie Veggie, his doll. She admits her gran thinks they’re more than friends. “Are we?” He asks. “Maybe,” she says. “Sounds good. Gives me hope,” he admits. “I…I want to be more than friends,” she confesses. She gets in close. She’s ready for more. She holds his hand and leans in for a kiss.
Back at the ranch, Victor admits to Nikki what he talked with Locke about. He’s not happy with his relationship with his daughter but he doesn’t want her to be taken advantage of by Ashland Locke. “I know these guys, they’re sharks.” Nikki thinks all she sees is his meddling. He should step back and let her fly on her own. Victor barks out a laugh. He’s not sure.
