This is the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Wednesday, July 7, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, July 8. In the previous episode, Victor asked Adam to use Connor against Chelsea, and in this episode, Victor worries that Chelsea will go rogue again, Connor and Faith decide to go riding together, and Chelsea is out on a day trip.
In his office, Victor asks Nikki if they can postpone their trip to Italy. They can catch up with Leslie Brooks on her tour. She’s deflated. She was looking forward to it and Summer was excited to see them. Nikki asks what’s happened. What changed? Vic’s worried about Connor. He’ll need support when he finds out about Chelsea. Nikki understands but he has Adam to look after him. Despite what Summer says, Nikki knows her breakup with Kyle is hard on her. She needs his support, too. Victor realizes she’s right. They’ll go to Italy.
In Chancellor Park, Chelsea breathes in the air and thanks Hedges for this time out of the psych ward. Hedges thought she’d appreciate what’s ahead for her. Chelsea asks him to call Chloe and ask her to meet. He’ll do that but motions for Adam to come. Adam appears. She asks if he brought Connor as she asked. He tells her she made a huge mistake. Hedges goes back to the hospital while Tyler, the big guy will stay with her. Adam tells Chelsea that Victor doesn’t want Connor to grow up without a mother. He heard she blackmailed Hedges. Did she think that would work? Chelsea does. Adam says she’s fooling herself. She’ll expose herself if she exposes him. She could go to prison and never see Connor. All she’s done is show Victor she’s a loose cannon. Chelsea was desperate. She felt conspired against. He assumes she’d have taken Connor on the run. She denies it. She doesn’t want that again so Adam says he’ll help get her out if she agrees to outpatient therapy. She rolls her eyes but agrees. He asks her to stop with the blackmail. She’s close to getting what she wants if she’ll let him help her.
At Society, Michael sits with Kevin and Chloe and tells Chloe that Chelsea’s doctor is keeping him posted. He knows Chloe visited her and is curious as to what they talk about. Chloe shoots Kev a look. He didn’t say a thing. She shares, “Kids, fashion.” She doesn’t judge Chelsea and is upset that her friend is cut off from her son. Kevin complains about people setting off fireworks and asks his brother what they can do about it since it’s after the fourth. Michale bitingly says he has no idea. Call the cops? Michael fishes for information about Chelsea and learns Chloe thinks Adam is the cause of Chelsea’s mental issues. Michael asks if that’s true, why is she working for him? Chloe wants to ensure her friend has a job to go to when she gets out. Michael says that would seem as though she thinks Chelsea will get out soon. It sounds like Chloe doesn’t think this illness is serious. Chloe knows Chelsea wasn’t in her right mind when she framed Rey. Micheal’s not so sure. She had to be competent enough to plan it. Kevin wonders if he thinks Chloe aided and abetted her. Michael says that whoever helped her got away with it. “This time.” Chloe gets a text. “I gotta go,” she says, taking off. “Very nice,” Kevin snipes at his brother.
Rey and Faith appear at Crimson Lights. Faith is there to work. Rey invites her to clean the espresso machine but she says it grosses her out. Sharon says next time they go to Miami, they’ll bring her. Rey says she dragged him to every roller coaster in Florida. Sharon laughs and points out that it was the other way around. Rey goes for a jog. Once he’s gone, Faith brings up Adam moving into the ranch and asks how Sharon feels about him being in such close proximity. Rey isn’t jogging on their property. Sharon shrugs. Faith doesn’t mind but hopes he doesn’t mess with her marriage. Sharon reassures her daughter she doesn’t need to worry.

Nina disconnects after a call with Christine at home. Abby appears and asks if it was about Chance. Ninas sorry that it wasn’t. Abby says Mariah is gone on business. She thinks Nina would be proud that she didn’t do her helicopter mom thing.
Tessa shuffles into the living room at home in her PJs. She was up late because she texted Mariah and she never responded. Even now, she still hasn’t. Nina looks concerned. Abby says she never said where she was going but she is probably on a business trip. Tessa says her overnight back is still upstairs. She must have been in a hurry to catch her flight. Abby has been on trips like this where she didn’t have time to pack. Maybe Mariah left a bag at work. Nina asks what projects she was working on. Neither woman know. Tessa’s upset so Nina suggests she lost her phone or is on her way home already. Abby knows her boss and calls Uncle Jack and leaves a message about their concerns. She asks him to call back. Later, Tessa dresses and writes a lullaby to the baby with her guitar. She only has one line which makes them laugh. “Baby, go to sleep…” Jack returns Abby’s call. He didn’t know Mariah was leaving town. Abby assumes she made her own arrangements but Jack will look into it. Nina thinks Mariah will contact them soon. Everyone looks worried but they try to remain positive.
Adam meets Victor at work and shares that he was firm with Chelsea. She’s on board. Victor thinks she’d promise anything to get out of there. What if she runs off with Connor? Adam doesn’t believe she will. Victor is unconvinced and calls Hedges. He’ll ask to get an early release for Chelsea. Adam thanks his dad but Vic still calls her dangerous.
Chloe meets Chelsea at the park. Chelsea shares why she’s there and that Adam knows about the recorded confession. Chloe thinks it worked but Chelsea doesn’t trust that Adam will make it happen. Chloe gets it but kind of does believe he will. Rey jogs up. “What are you doing here?” He wants to know. Chelsea gets Chloe to get a message of love to Connor before she goes and then Chelsea talks about how Rey took mercy on her. She’s making the most of the second chance he gave her. He thinks she looks stronger. She thanks him and is starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. He heard Connor’s in town. She says Adam hasn’t let him see him yet and she feels punished by him but can’t blame Adam. Rey says, “To use your son as a weapon?” She’s keeping the faith. He wishes her luck on her recovery and jogs off.
Adam and Connor see Sharon at Crimson Lights. Sharon tells Connor about how Faith won some ribbons for horse riding when he admits Nikki’s letting him brush the horse. Faith appears and Sharon offers her help in teaching him to ride. She is into it. Adam thanks her and they run off to get brownies. Adam thinks it’ll be special for him to grow up with Faith. “She’s almost like a big sister.” They discuss Chelsea’s illness and that the doctor expects the stroke was the catalyst. Connor only knows that she had a complication after surgery and is in the hospital getting well. Rey appears. He ran into Chelsea at the park. Connor overhears. He thought she was in the hospital. Rey thinks fast and says she is but her doctor let her out to get some sun. Connor asks to see her. Rey’s not sure if she can but she gave him a message to tell Connor she loves him. Adam cringes when Connor asks to see her today. If Rey can, he can too, right? Adam takes Rey aside. He wishes that he wouldn’t have said anything. Rey suggests Adam take him to the park since she’s there already. It seems cruel not to. Adam weighs his options.

Chloe returns to Society. Michael’s gone and Kevin berates Chloe for visiting Chelsea in the park when she could have gone to prison for what she did. “When is this going to stop?” She’s just visiting a friend trying to get her life together. Kevin knows but her friend almost ruined her life. If his brother wasn’t the DA she’d face charges, he guesses. Cases can get reopened all the time. He begs her to stay away from the mess and reconsider taking that job from Adam. Bella and Miles need her and Kevin loves her. He wants her safe.
Back at the park, Chelsea has two minutes to stay at the park. Connor runs up. “MOM!” Chelsea yells, “Connor! Oh my sweet boy!” She hugs him close as Adam walks up, smiling.
