Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for Thursday, December 9, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Friday, December 10. (Recaps live by 5:45 PM EST daily.) In the previous episode, Chance exhibited issues getting into civilian life. In this episode of CBS’ The Young and the Restless, Devon and Mariah share concerns over Chance’s state of mind, while Tessa’s album cover takes shape, and Phyllis and Nick take a walk down memory lane.
At home, Abby’s all dolled up in a glitzy little number. She asks Chance to go to Society with her. She’ll show him off and let him meet her new chef. She wants him to try the new dishes. Chance doesn’t think it’s a good idea. She asks why he has doubts.
He tells her they don’t know who is watching. She reminds him his supervisor said it was fine and he was in no danger. She wants to get him into civilian life. He finally tells her it’s fine. They’ll go. She cheers and runs upstairs with the baby to put him in something with sequins.
Noah visits Devon at home. Devon’s excited to see his thoughts on the album cover. Since Noah hasn’t had time to process them, Devon says they can do it together. Noah balks. It’s been a while since he has had to preview projects when they’re not ready. He asks for a timeline in when this should be finished. Devon gives December 22 and says if he loves autonomy, why did he leave his job in London? Eeyore Noah tells him he left because of personal reasons. They get to work.
Devon loves all the photos and thinks there’s a lot of soul in her eyes. “You can hear her single just looking at it.” Devon’s glad Tessa suggested him. He was hesitant since they have a history. Noah laughs. They agree it was a lifetime ago. Devon says she and Mariah are going strong. Noah thinks Tessa’s fearless putting herself out there.
At Crimson Lights, Nick asks if Sharon has a costume for Christian for his holiday party. Something of Noah’s. She laughs. Their son is a grown man. Had she kept them, they’d be old and a wreck by now. Nick didn’t think of that. She thinks he has something else on his mind to discuss. He admits Phyllis used to handle this for him.
Sharon would be happy to make a costume. He doesn’t want to impose but she loves Christian. Nick thanks her. He talks about how well the break up has gone for him and Phyllis. He found some of her things and will be giving them back today. She says sometimes they do that to reconnect or punish. Nick thinks she’s pushing it. He’s just trying to save Phyllis a trip.

At Grand Phoenix, Amanda shares photos of her new offices with Phyllis. They swoon over the Victorian house and Amanda says Imani passed the Wisconsin bar exam on her first try. Phyllis is happily surprised and Amanda thinks she’s down in the dumps. Phyllis opens up about Jack going to Italy and not telling her. She brings up their open conversation about their friendship. She can’t pretend he didn’t reveal his true feelings for her and isn’t sure what to do about it. “I guess I just go with it,” she says.
She doesn’t want to screw up their friendship. Amanda asks how she feels about all this. Phyllis doesn’t want to hurt Jack. She’ll get through this awkward phase. Amanda asks if she wants to reignite things with Jack. Phyllis maintains she won’t get involved again so she can’t hurt him. Amanda thinks she feels rejected since Jack went away to see Kyle without telling her after his trip to Italy Phyllis says it’d kill her to hurt Jack again. Nick walks up and Amanda goes. Nick sets a box down. He says he’s returning her “stuff.”
She opens the box and finds her black ball cap. She’s been looking for it for a while. She finds the Worlds Best Boss mug. They smile over her using it and never get tired of her joke. “It wasn’t a joke,” she says. She finds a game that she gave him for Valentine’s Day. He thinks she should have it.
She says it was the best gift ever besides the Pepe’s Roadhouse sign. They reminisce a little and he says the sign wouldn’t fit in the box. She’s grateful he brought them. They agree the time they spent together wasn’t wasted. She asks if the tension in his family eased up. He’s avoiding them. “Does that count?” She thinks so because it’s what she told him to do all along.
She brings up him leaving Chance’s party early. Nick tells her about his argument with Ashland and that Vic accused him of pushing everyone away, “Including you.” Phyllis doesn’t think Victoria knows anything about their relationship and she’s sorry he went through that. They talk about their kids and Phyllis misses Summer and Daniel. Nick gets a text from Nikki to get to the ranch. It’s urgent. He rushes off. Jack texts that he’s sorry for disappearing. He had Jabot end-of-year business and will make it up to her when he gets back.
At Society, Abby tells Chance she’ll keep this low key. She wants Chef Pamela to meet Chance. Mariah wanders up, surprised. “Chance? Is it really you?” Tessa appears at her side, smiling. Mariah didn’t expect to see him out. She wanted to come by to say hello but knew he’d need time to settle in. He’s glad to have run into her. He thanks her for everything she’s done for them and is sorry for what she went through with Stitch.
Chance is sorry he wasn’t able to protect her. Mariah insists the kidnapping is in the past. She’s had a lot of support in moving on. Abby’s grateful to her as well. Chance asks them to lunch but they’re working on finding a photo for Tessa’s album cover. They part ways. Mariah thinks he seemed a little off. Tessa assumes it’ll take time for him to feel safe again. Mariah can’t imagine what he went through. Later, Mariah looks at the album cover photos and loves all of them.
Tessa says she was talking about her love for Mariah which shone through. Nearby, Chance thinks it must have been a blow to Abby to lose Lola. “I used to be pretty selfish until I met you. You made me a better human being.” He can’t take credit for that. He’s no saint.
She says that what happened in Spain isn’t his fault. That wasn’t what he was thinking about. The baby cries and Mariah stares. Her and Tessa go to Abby’s table and thank her for comping their meal. They go and Abby lets Chance know that Mariah had a strong attachment to the baby and had a difficult time letting go. Chance understands completely. He talks about thinking he’d have lost his mind without Kim there for him after the bombing. He’s quiet and she asks if he’s thinking of his teammates. “Always,” he says. “Every minute of every day.” She holds his hand and wishes she could say something to help but he doesn’t think words can heal all wounds.
Amanda gets home and meets Noah. She saw some of his art work and asks if he’s looking for a new project. She has work for him designing a corporate logo. He’ll think about it. He leaves. They sit together and talk about how skilled Noah is and how good Devon is with him. She offers to take him to lunch.
Back at Crimson Lights, Noah appears and Sharon wants to see his work. He wants to review it with Tessa first. She thinks her son is all fired up. He smiles. The album has gotten his creative juices flowing. He credits Tessa. Tessa and Mariah appear. Mariah agrees, she’s an ideal subject. She loves the photos they saw. They show Noah and it’s the same one that he and Devon chose. Everyone cheers. Mariah’s glad to see her happy. Tessa kisses Mariah and Noah watches.
Devon and Amanda catch Chance and Abby on their way out of Society. Devon says hello to Dominic and Abby and Amanda talk about how he has the magic touch with the boy. Abby jokes that she could use that at 2 am. They go and Devon can’t take his eyes off Dominic. Amanda asks if he’s okay and he insists he’s fine.
She talks about getting a consultant to paint their office. Devon looks distant and Amanda calls him out for his eyes glaze over. She apologizes. He’s sorry. He’s thinking of Chance who seemed uneasy to him. He worries about Dominic and knows babies pick up on every little thing. He doesn’t want Dom to take in his parents stress.
At home, Abby takes the baby from Chance for a nap. Chance tries to take a few deep breaths once she’s gone. He takes a call from Nina who worries about him. He insists he’s just fine. Abby returns and eavesdrops.

Billy tells Lily he’s in control. “I’ve never been more focused in my life.”
Lily says, “If that’s true there’s something I want you to do and you’re not gonna like it.”
Elena is shocked at Nate. “Are you asking me to move in with you?”
Devon asks Chance, “Hey are you okay? Cause it kinda seems like you’re not.”
Chelsea finds Chloe and says, “So tell me. What did I miss?”
