The Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Friday, August 13, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Monday, August 14. In the previous episode, Victor grilled Ashland about his intentions for his daughter, as Rey opened an official investigation into Mariah’s disappearance. In this episode, Kyle is thrilled he will live with his son Harrison, Ashland wants to set a wedding date, and Devon worries that Chance hasn’t given his life a chance in Genoa City.

Ashland arrives at Jack’s, looking pensive. He’s made a decision about his son. He tells Jack to video call him now and he’ll reveal his thoughts. Before Jack does that, he texts Kyle with a heads up. Ashland becomes overwrought when he talks about how his son’s future wellbeing is at stake. Kyle calls and Ashland’s snippy. Ashland was furious with them for the affair but admits it ensured he knew what kind of woman she was, what ugliness she had inside. He recaps what they’ve gone through and Ash admits he’s started treatment but if it doesn’t work, he could be dead in a matter of months. He feels like crap and knows it can get worse. He can’t stand the idea of putting Harrison through any of what could come. Jack offers to keep Harrison and arrange visitation. Ash considered and rejected that. With Tara gone, he’ll need a father — a full-time parent. He’s decided Harrison should go live with Kyle in Italy. Ash will visit when he’s strong enough, maybe in New York or Milan. Kyle’s excited and calls this an excellent plan. All he asks is if he asks him to keep his presence alive for Harrison alive and freedom to visit anytime. Plus, he adores Tara. She’ll have to be allowed to see him. Even though, there should be rules in place for supervised visits. Kyle can do that. They discuss how to tell the kid his mama is in jail. They’ll figure out something that he’ll understand such as she needs a long time out for doing something bad. They all agree that it’s best to show consequences for her actions but to ensure the kid knows he’s loved.
Kyle promises he’ll love the child. Jack looks wistful. Both Abbotts agree to let Harrison tell his son right now. While Ash goes upstairs, Kyle can’t help but smile and laugh at this. “Given his volatile temperament, I didn’t know what to expect, ” Jack admits. Kyle can’t wait to see his son. He knows it’ll be an adjustment for the boy. Jack misses Kyle like crazy. He’ll miss Harrison but he’ll cope, knowing this is best for him. Kyle asks Jack to be the one to bring the toddler to Milan. Jack looks teary-eyed and his voice is hoarse when he says, “There’s nothing I would like better.” Later, Ash returns. His son took things well. He’s young though. Adaptable. What puts his mind and heart at ease, is knowing he’s in Jack’s family’s capable hands. Jack thanks him. He realizes this has been a difficult year for him. “Whatever brings you happiness, that’s a good thing,” he says. Victoria does that for Ash. He’s close to tears when he says she’s brought him more joy and happiness than he’s thought possible. Jack calls her a keeper. “Hold on tight.” He intends to.

Billy runs into Victoria at Crimson Lights. He talks about dropping the kids off at camp and discussed the wedding, briefly. Katie wants to be a flower girl and Johnny hopes the cake is chocolate. Victoria smiles. She was worried over nothing? Billy jokes that the cake better be good because usually, wedding cake tastes like cardboard. He becomes serious and says they’ll start asking questions at some point and they’ll answer them. He asks after Ash. Victoria says he’s doing well and positive. Billy notes she has a lot of things happening in such a short amount of time. They sit and try to psychoanalyze the situation, and then laugh about it. Billy thinks they’ve finally found that sweet spot. They’ve history and have finally moved on happily with their lives and can challenge each other in a way that isn’t toxic. “I think the technical term for that is called being friends,” Victoria says. They smile.
Devon visits Lily at work. He’s upset. She tells him to lay it on her. He reveals Mariah’s gone missing and sending vague texts. Jack’s ready to replace her. He reveals she’s been telling Tessa and Abby to back off. Lily’s puzzled. “That doesn’t even sound like her.” Devon admits Rey’s opening an investigation. Devon shares that Abby’s doing her best to be positive but it’s hard without Chance around. Lily thinks she sounds as though she’s understanding of her husband being away. They agree that deep down she’s probably having a lot of difficulty with it. Lily asks if he’s having second thoughts. Devon was happy – is happy to help them have a baby. He’s upset that he knows Chance is a good guy, but at the same time, he made a commitment to start a family with his best friend and told her he was going to be home soon. He chose to take this case after they decided for Mariah to carry the baby. “It feels like he’s choosing his work over the responsibility to his family.” Lily hopes Devon hasn’t voiced this to Abby. He hasn’t and won’t.

Devon bumps into Victoria at Crimson Lights. She hasn’t checked in about the baby in a while. He’s sure her sister understands she has a lot on her plate. They discuss Chance not returning and Devon knows Abby would appreciate it if she called. Devon knows how it can be with sisters. Victoria is grateful to Lily and to Billy for caring for the kids more while she deals with medical issues. It speaks to the kind of person she is and the place she and Billy are in.

Billy arrives at work. He and Victoria had an interesting talk. Billy says that they were open and honest and their conversation didn’t spiral into an argument. Or maybe they were projecting their insecurities on each other. “I don’t know.” Lily laughs. It’s asking a lot for her to always work with him to find out where he stands with his ex. Lily thinks he and Victoria like having things unresolved between them. It helps feed off the competitive vibe. Billy thinks there’s something to that. Billy wants to turn it into an article for current celebrities or people of Genoa City. “How do you run into people from your past and still communicate? We can call it the Ghost of Love.” He suggests Lily take this on. Billy thinks that she doesn’t want a full commitment. She argues that he hasn’t commented that he and his ex like things unresolved. Billy admits she’s right. He’s not in denial about his relationship with Victoria. He gets to have a say in her life if it affects his kids. Billy knows she and Ash are alike but her marrying him is a mistake. The biggest she’ll probably ever make.
In the park, Devon learns from Jack that he’s taking the red-eye to Milan to take Harrison to be with his son Kyle and Summer since they moved there. Devon is happy to hear. It’s a huge sacrifice. Jack says he did what was best for the boy. Devon knows that’s what you do when you’re a good parent. He grumbles that somebody he knows ought to do that. “Who are we talking about now?” Jack asks. Devon’s thinking about Chance being away. Jack admits he’s not the only one. Nobody has heard from Mariah. He doesn’t know how Abby’s holding it together. Devon calls her strong. Jack goes and Devon calls someone for a favor. “It’s something that’s pretty important.”
Back at home, Ash tells Victoria it’s done. He told Harrison everything and he wanted to know if they’d visit. Victoria thinks this must have been hard. Victoria has never respected him more. She’s in awe. She loves him for that. He needs help in picking out a date for their wedding. He doesn’t want to wait too long until he’s too sick.
