General Hospital recap for Monday, January 16, 2023. In today’s GH episode, Spencer asks Diane for legal advice, Laura questions Esme, and Taggert returns to worry about Trina and Spencer.
We also have Friday’s GH recap where Nina accused Carly of being a monster when she confessed Willow is her daughter and then Stormed off to save her.
At Portia’s and Curtis’ place, she refuses to let Spencer back into her daughter’s life again. He warns that if she pushes Trina, she may just drive him into the Cassadine’s arms.
Taggert shows up. He saw pictures of Trina with the Cassadine kid on social media and had to find out what’s going on.
Portia tells him to stay calm. Curtis admits that he urged her not to pressure Trina.
“You’re not my daughter’s father,” Taggert tells him. They aren’t going to let her play in traffic.
After he walks out, Portia tells Curtis she values his opinion, but when it comes to Trina, Taggert is territorial.
Curtis offers to keep his parenting advice to himself until they have their own. He knows there are no guarantees, but he would love to have a child of his own.
She smiles awkwardly.
Diane meets with Spencer at Sonny’s penthouse. He tells her that he has a civil case he wants to pursue. He wants custody of Esme’s baby.
They go over the possibilities. She’s surprised when he asks if a sibling could gain custody. The lawyer guesses that Nikolas is the father.
He knows this is possible because Michael gained custody of Avery once. Diane points out that was short-lived.
Spencer doesn’t want the baby to know either of its parents. Diane doubts a judge will allow that and would suspect he is seeking revenge.
The Cassadine insists he’s trying to save the child from a toxic cycle and he can’t sit by while he ruins another child’s life.
She tells him they can put forward that argument but the odds are against him. He has an idea of how to even those odds.
He suggests that he could be the father. She hopes he’s not thinking of getting a fraudulent DNA test because she won’t go along with that.
Taking a child away from its biological parents is a longshot. Besides that, Spencer just got out of prison. She can’t guarantee a win and warns that if this starts, it will be impossible to control what it does to his family.

In the GH chapel, Nikolas tells Liz that Victor has evidence of Esme’s captivity in storage.
Even if he knew where it was, he couldn’t access it. He doesn’t think his uncle knows she was involved and promises to take all the blame if necessary.
They need to be more worried about Esme talking. She doesn’t think Esme will get her memories back any time soon.
He asks if she ever figured out about her loss of time and blackouts. She explains that her parents were behind them.
She’s been in Esme’s position and confused about holes in her memory. But her sense of self-preservation is stronger than her empathy.
When she admits it would be great if they had a way to prevent her ever getting her memory back, that sets the prince to thinking.
Esme wakes up in her hospital bed. Laura is there and starts asking her about where she was. Esme has no answers and asks who she is.
She’s surprised the mayor is there and that she’s the grandmother of the baby she’s carrying and Esme stayed with her when she first came to town.
Laura shows her photos and Esme explains Spencer came, claiming to be her baby’s father. Esme asks if there’s anything she can tell her about herself.
Dante interrupts with a picture of the Christmas ornament she had when she was admitted. It doesn’t look familiar to her.
When he asks if she will call him if she recall anything, she refuses to help build a case against the person she used to be.
The cop and mayor walk out. He explains they are pivoting away from Esme as the prime suspect in the hook killings and Oz’s drugging.
They have no idea if she will get bail. He asks if she thinks Esme is faking.
When Nina barges into Willow’s room, she asks Michael to call security. Nina announces she may be the only person who can save her.
She’s sorry for all the ways she’s disappointed her. Willow has heard this before.
Nina explains it’s different this time. She’s her daughter.
Willow thinks she’s lost her mind and is furious. When she turns to Michael, he confirms it’s true.
This is hard to Willow to swallow. Michael explains Drew confirmed it.
Willow wants a complete explanation. Nina explains that she was Nelle’s twin and Madeline took her away. This also makes Wiley her nephew.
Nina wonders if this is a way for them both to get something they never thought they could have.
Willow asks Michael to step out. Once he does, Nina goes on about being haunted by the loss of her daughter.
She hopes all the fighting between them can end and they can build a new relationship.
Willow makes it clear that the fact that they share a bloodtype changes nothing between them. She will never accept her and what she’s done to her life.
She accuses her of being hellbent to destroy her life. There’s no chance she will let her back into Wiley’s life.
Nina says there was a crime committed against both of them. She couldn’t save her sister but she is saving her.
When Willow asks what she wants in exchange for a bone marrow donation, Nina insists she doesn’t want anything. If she has the power to save her life, she won’t let anything stop her.
Carly tells Drew and Sonny that Nina is getting tested to be a match for Willow.
Dante shows up and offers to be tested. Drew leads him off to the lab.
Carly takes Sonny into a corner and tells him Nina is Willow’s mother. He squints.
She admits that Harmony told her months ago and doesn’t want to explain why she kept it quiet.
Drew returns and stands up for Carly. Sonny doesn’t buy it and is sure she was just trying to get back at Nina.
Michael breaks them up as they raise their voices. He leads Sonny away.
Michael asks him to deal with his anger toward later. Sonny agrees to that and offers to do whatever he can to help. He assures his son he is doing all the right things.
Drew tells Carly that she’s given Willow a chance to survive. She thanks him for not making her feel worse.
Michael returns to Willow. “Why couldn’t it have been anyone else besides Nina?” she wonders.
Nina goes to Sonny and tells him she has a daughter who doesn’t want anything to do with her.
He gives her a hug.
