At the Tack House, Devon says he came over to talk Mariah down from panicking.
When he asks, they tell him everything they’ve been told so far about Aria’s hearing issues.
Tessa asks him to walk through what it’s like not to hear.
Mariah doesn’t want him to relive it all but he doesn’t mind.
Tessa worries she’s overstepped but he’s fine. Tessa gets tea while Devon says he was older when he lost his hearing.
Meningitis caused it but he was able to speak and communicate.
Mariah says Aria can’t do any of that. Devon says she has two people who can care for her and advocate for her. Still, their heads are filled with ‘what ifs’?
Mariah says Aria may never be able to hear her mother’s beautiful voice.
Dr. George (Mattilyn Rochester Kravitz) arrives. Devon remembers her being on his care team when he got a cochlear implant.
She recalls him and his interest in music. She hears he’s doing well after getting an implant.
Devon tells her about his surgery in Texas that his father had scheduled for him.
He takes off, knowing the women are in good hands.
Later, Tessa is finished putting the baby to sleep when Dr. George tells them that she’s performed two tests.
One for how Aria’s brain reacted to sound.
The result suggested healing loss connected to the auditory nerve, but it’s still early to assume anything.
If it’s what she thinks, it’s treatable but there’s no cure.
They’ll fit her with a hearing aid.
A cochlear implant could be another option. Tessa asks how it happened.
“Did we do something wrong?” The doctor thinks it’s genetic.
They’ll talk to the bio-mom. Once the doctor has gone, the wives hug.
Jack and Billy come in from the patio at the Abbott homestead, glad to have used the patio for their meeting since summer is close to being over.
Mrs. Martinez took Harrison to the farmer’s market, Jack says since everyone’s working.
They’re struck by the lack of sarcasm since Ashley and Tucker aren’t there anymore.
Tucker arrives and asks if the men missed him. Billy says they’ve been pinning. Tucker says he’s had the rest of their stuff arranged to be moved by the end of the week.
Tucker talks about their company and how the best way to fight Jabot is as a competitor. Jack says his sister feels she has to save Jabot from him and Diane.
Tucker says he knows they thought he had some agenda with Ashley but he doesn’t.
She’s seeking peace and he’s along for the ride.
He saw what the war was doing to her. She was obsessed.
The men stare and Tucker tells Jack his real threat was closer to home in Billy. “You’re uh Carus Frater over there. He was ready to sell you out for control of Jabot.”
Billy denies it and Tucker reminds him that he and Ashley came to him.
Billy says he never took them up on their offer to stab Jack in the back.
Tucker says he heard the hunger and ambition in Billy’s eyes. Jack says if his faith in his brother was shattered, why would Tucker care?
Tucker shrugs. He just wants him to know that his hate for Diane goes deeper than Jack knows.
Jack bellows and Tucker stops him and says to relax.
He goes upstairs and Jack says good thing he trusts Billy because Tucker made a good case.
illy doesn’t like the sound of that but Jack says he knows about his temptations. Billy’s offended but Jack knows he wouldn’t follow through.
Billy tells Jack that they made offers but he didn’t go for them. Once Billy’s gone, Tucker returns with a bag and Jack tells him off.
What tension between his sister is a family matter and he says they’ll deal with it. Tucker laughs. He thinks of himself as his family now.
Jack will destroy Tucker if he hurts his sister.
Tucker tells his brother-in-law not to push him.
“You do not want to cross me.” He leaves and Jack leaves a message for Billy with an apology.
At Society, Ashley and Abby dine on salad as Ashley says she and Tucker are looking for a place to live and office space. Abby asks about her uncle.
Ashley says her war with Jack is still over. Abby asks if she’s sure she wants to break away from Jabot and start over.
Ashley’s exasperated when she again explains she can’t work with Diane.
It’s time for her to move on. “Thank God,” Diane says, approaching the table.
They try to get rid of her unsuccessfully but Diane says she has a right to know what they’re feeling about her.
Ashley says she’s never changed.
Diane jokes that Ashley probably used to lie awake in high school and think about what the mean girls said to her.
Argumenting ensues and Abby tells them to shut up before Devon calls and she toddles off to meet him.
Ashley pops a grape into her mouth as she speaks and immediately can’t breathe.
She stares up at Diane and then shoves the table forward, panic radiating on her face.
Diane realizes she’s choking and drops her bag and does the Heimlich maneuver on her.
Ashley spits up the grape and tries to breathe as she walks to the bar.
Diane follows and rubs her back as she gets snippy with the bartender, asking for water.
Ashley spins around in shock. “Did you just save my life?”
Diane says not to be dramatic. She wants to take Ashley to the ER but Ashley refuses.
She takes off with a glass of water into the ladies’ room.
When she returns, Diane takes her to the club.
