CBS

Adam brought this on himself. He wanted to start at the bottom and left his father to make the choice.

Nate makes it clear none of this was his choice.

Adam is grateful for his new beginning and knows how hard it is to get his position.

“Put me to work, Nate,” he says.

Hastings isn’t buying any of this and is just out to get back in after screwing things up.

The Newman admits it’s where he wants to be and he serves at the pleasure of whoever is his boss.

Nate admires how he spins things but thinks trusting him with this job is foolish. He’ll have access to confidential information.

He doesn’t trust him any more than Victoria does so he will only let him have menial tasks. He’ll pay for an assistant he can trust for some substantial work.

Adam is sure that his father will shoot that plan down.

They bicker and Adam reminds him he double-crossed his own family. He concedes his own plans have failed.

CBS

This is all a wake-up call for Adam. Nate still doesn’t trust him or believe he can change.

His actions show that he can’t change.

The Newman wants a chance to prove he can, to him and everyone else.

Nate suspects that this is all part of a broader agenda of his father’s. He assumes that he was put in as Adam’s boss to prevent him from doing damage to the company.

She claims she’s seen the wisdom of his actions and accepted them.

She can see he’s looking at the long game and trying to unite a fractured work environment.

CBS

He asks how that fracture happened. They agree that all started with Ashland.

She’s adamant that Adam has been the consistent problem. He’s not impressed by this assessment and insists he’s never been given the benefit of the doubt.

Victoria is sure his son will disappoint him and has an agenda. No one can keep her brother in line.

When she claims she will try to give him another chance, he gets suspicious of how abrupt that change is.
