Tues Jan 23, 2024: Today on Young and Restless, Kyle and Summer’s divorce comes through, Kyle assures his mom he’s cool with her promotion, and Nikki talks with Claire about her upbringing.
Monday’s recap: Claire’s visitor surprised her, Heather and Daniel reunited, and Victor gave Sally and Adam his blessing.

Summer walks into Crimson Lights and bumps into Kyle getting coffee.
They are both feeling strange and a little sad since their divorce is final.
They talk about making beautiful memories. Now they have to pour their extra love into Harrison.
She asks about all the changes in the C suite at Jabot.
He admits he’s not back in the Co-CEO spot. His mom is there.
Summer asks how he feels about Diane taking his job.
He says he’s happy for his mom and his dad made the right choice.
When she points out he’s talking like this is a press conference, he admits that he’s disappointed.
But he’ll be happy as COO working with his parents and learning from them.
She says he will bite his tongue and learn to be happy.
Chance enters in his new outfit and she gets him to model it for her.
They talk about him expanding his style horizons.
After Chance steps away to get a coffee, Kyle says, “Hmmm…somebody’s got a crush.”
Although she tries to dispel the idea that there’s a vibe, he teases and says it’s good to see her smile again.
He’s been smiling more lately too. That makes her glad. They want each other to be happy.
Summer and Chance get a table and talk about his new job.
He compares it to the GCPD and how important it is to mix the OGs with the newbies.
Eventually, she notices what time it is and wonders how it got so late.
He suggests they get lunch. She agrees if he promises more gossip.
As they joke around, Sharon arrives and ruins the mood.
“Look who it is! Genoa City’s newest mogul!” declares Summer. Sharon says it will take a few months to reach that status.
Chance says it’s nice to see her and she says they should have come to her party. They’re impressed there was no hostage-taking.
After Summer tells her how nice it was she named her company after Cassie, she walks off to take a call.
Sharon asks Chance if they are good. They agree they are great and handled everything amicably.
She assures him he can bring any girlfriend he wants there.
He thanks her for being honest about her priorities.
Sharon has a favor to ask.
“Don’t get all awkward around me,” she requests.
He jokes she can blame his lack of smoothness on the heartbreak.
She’s sure his heart is mending fine. Not everything is meant to last.
They were friends once and are again. That’s lucky. They should want good things for each other.
Summer returns and Chance leaves for work with her.
At Jabot, Jack assures Diane that she is not taking a job from their son.
It is not his time, it is hers.
She’s sure their son hurts that he didn’t get promoted and she’s hurting for him.
Losing Summer and this job is too much.
Jack is confident their son is fine and is proud that he’s realized he has more to learn.
Besides, if they changed it now, they would be setting a bad example and suggesting they don’t believe him when he says he’s okay.
When he talks like that, Diane can’t disagree.
They make out until their son interrupts.
Jack hopes they’ve had their coffee because he has a bunch of work for them to do.
He leaves to take care of a press release.
Diane asks to speak to her son.
They sit and she asks how he feels about her getting the job he wanted.
Her son assures her that it’s all okay. If his having the job is meant to be, it will happen.
This is her job and he’s sure she will crush it.
She’s say the same about him some day.
As she hugs him, he looks disappointed.
Jack returns and they sit around discussing employee satisfaction and internships.
Jack is happy that everyone seems to be where they need to be.

At the psychiatric hospital, Claire wonders if she’s in a nightmare when she wakes up and finds Nikki looming over her.
Nikki assures her she’s only there to help her.
They saved each other’s lives.
Claire is sure she still has every reason to hate her.
Nikki agrees but can see she was the product of her upbringing.
The question is, does she want to get better?
Claire wonders if that’s even possible.
Nikki tells her that everyone is stronger than they think if they are brave enough to dig deep.
Claire sometimes feels like she is but it’s exhausting.
The Newman tells her that her parents want to be there to help her.
Although Claire is sure they will be because they are good people, she needs someone who will be frank with her. Is she inherently evil?
Sighing, Nikki says she was born perfect and innocent but an evil force got in the way.
They saved each other’s lives and that’s a good thing.
She prompts the inmate to tell her about her days.
Claire has group therapy, craft lessons, free time, and walks around the floors. She gets to go to pediatrics to see the children. That makes her light up.
The kids may be sick or injured but she feels jealous because they have family.
That’s something she’s always wanted.
Her aunt always claimed to be all she needed but she wasn’t. Wishing never changed anything so she stopped wishing.
Sometimes when she looks at those kids she wonders what Victoria was like as child.
She’s sure Nikki must have been very protective of her.
Nikki’s not sure about that. Her daughter always loved her horses and kept them under control. They felt safe together.
She likes books, painting, the museum.
Claire wants someone to be proud of the things she’s done the way Nikki is of her daughter.
If she’d had a life where she could have been herself instead of a weapon, things could have been so different.
She can hear Jordan in her head telling her she’s not special, but she was special for a little while…she was Victoria’s baby.
Nikki says it would be wonderful if they could correct the past and have a second chance but all they can do is find a way to break free from the past.
It’s hard for Claire to imagine that. She tears up, sure that Nikki can only see horrible things when she looks at her.
Nikki admires how she can calm herself after her emotional storms.
“Jordan wasn’t much of a hugger,” Claire explains.
“That’s not the life you were meant to have,” says Nikki.
She needs some rest and suggests Nikki go.
Nikki steps into the hall and stands to think for a moment.
Nikki goes outside and pulls out her flask.
She calls Jack and tells him she’s in trouble and needs help.
Ashley shows up at Tucker’s suite and asks if he really thinks that she’s incapable of a relationship.
It’s like he’s convinced himself that she’s the one with a problem.
He suggests she’s the one re-writing history.
“I know exactly what you’re trying to accomplish,” she says.
He accuses her of trying to provoke him and she insists she’s not the one playing games.
She accuses him of gaslighting her but he can’t see what the point would be.
When she suggests he’s trying to make her suffer, he laughs.
McCall thinks she never knew him at all and insists he’s never been motivated to inflict harm on others.
She accuses him of using the word “love” to try to control him.
Keeping his distance, he dismisses this and says she’s always proved she is independent.
All he ever wanted was to share with her but she seems incapable of real commitment to anyone who doesn’t share her DNA.
He’s sad but it’s game over with him and he’s moving on.
She’s annoyed when he accuses her of obsessing over what happened in Paris.
Tucker urges her to fly back to the bistro and ask people what the remember.
“I think you’d be surprised by what they have to tell you,” he suggests. She walks out.
Ashley returns to the Abbott house and replays the bistro fight in her head again.
Sitting in the velvet chair, she imagines it again and tells herself she knows what she knows.
Traci putters in and guesses something is going on.
She pours some water and the replay the bistro trauma.
Tucker keeps telling Ashley that she’s got it all wrong.
Traci doesn’t see what he would have to gain from gaslighting her.
He’s no prince charming but he’s not the kind of man who pulls wings off butterflies.
Ashley’s never known him to be violent with anyone.
“But you know what you saw, right?” her sister asks.
Pacing, Ashley asks her to pretend she’s writing one of her novels. They recap the situation.
Ashley can’t understand what’s happening.
Her sister says if Tucker is gaslighting her, she will go after him.
They hug and Ashley worries that Tucker could be right that she’s making this up to avoid commitment.
How can they get closer to the facts? “I know of a way,” Ashley says.
