Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for Wednesday, December 24, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, December 23. (Recaps live by 5:45 PM EST daily.) In the previous episode, Summer made an appearance on Christmas Eve. In this episode of CBS’ The Young and the Restless, Chelsea and Adam discuss their relationship again, while Noah learns Tessa and Mariah want babies and Chloe talks to Chelsea about her new contract.
At Society, Chelsea greets Abby and Dominic. They catch up about family being reunited and fawn over adorable Dom. Chelsea isn’t sure her return is going to have the same happy ending. Abby thinks her “rough patch” is behind her. Chelsea’s not sure if she’s burned every bridge but she set a few fires. She’s unsure if she’ll be forgiven. Abby thinks she should be there and she’ll defend her if anyone speaks out. Chelsea admits Christmas with Connor and Adam was nice.
Abby thinks they may be able to reunite but Chelsea says it’d be hard. “But you never know.” Chelsea goes to Chloe’s table and they discuss work, sketches and how they’re in sync. Chelsea brings up her interesting afternoon before Christmas with Sally and Adam.
She fills Chloe in. She can see why Chloe hired Sally who is smart and ambitious. She’s also a handful. There was a sense of competition in the air. Chloe thinks that can be a good thing but Chels thinks she was trying to impress Adam. “He is the boss,” Chloe reminds her. Chelsea must be the boss and that needs to be in her contract.
Adam sees Chance at Crimson Lights. Adam says it’s good to see him and assumes his safe return was the best Christmas present Abby could have hoped for. He’s glad he’s safe. Chance appreciates it. They missed him when he stopped by with gifts. Adam apologizes for not attending his welcome home party. He wasn’t sure he’d be well received. Chance understands. They talk about the changes in Adam’s life. Adam is trying to redeem himself.
Chance is at the top of the list of those he needs to earn back trust from. Chance hesitates and then decides he has time for coffee. They talk about Chance taking his time in going back to the police department. Adam prods for information on Spain but Chance doesn’t want to talk about it. He wants to focus on his son. He has mad guilt about not being there for his kid. He doubts Mariah would have been kidnapped if he was there.
Adam tells him to focus on the future and not the past. Create a bond by doing the day-to-day stuff with him. Chance wishes it’d work that way but…he trails off. Adam’s puzzled and tells Chance to learn from his mistakes. Chance appreciates the coffee but has to run. Abby’s waiting. He takes off.

Nearby, Elena tells Sharon she has to give notice on her apartment since she and Nate decided to move in together. Sharon’s happy to hear. Elena tells her that Nate asked her out of the blue. She’s a little concerned about the overlap between life and work and Nate’s technically her boss at the hospital.
Sharon tells her friend to stop making problems were there aren’t any. Elena laughs. She can’t give up either her job or Nate. Sharon gives the usual advice about knowing what their issues are in advance and how to cope. Elena feels more excited.
Nate arrives at Devon’s. He just donated to New Hope. “Did you get rid of those ugly purple lamps?” Nate says no. Devon thinks Elena will get rid of them. Nate came to check on his cousin since he seemed down at Christmas dinner. He asks if it bothers that he and Elena are shacking up. Devon denies it. He thinks it’s a good way to start the new year off. Dominic was a distraction. Nate sees the gift of the baby’s footprints.
Devon says that it’s an adjustment but he belongs with his mom and his dad. Nate knows that there’s more to it. Devon admits he misses everything about Dominic. He feels a strong connection toward him and is struggling without having a constant role in his life. Nate encourages him to do something about it. Devon shrugs. He can visit him anytime. Nate pushes him and Devon doesn’t think inserting himself into their lives even legally will help them.
Nate reminds him of his attachment. He didn’t know he’d be there to help with the birth and to help when Abby left. “She didn’t abandon him,” Devon defends. Nate thinks Dominic will thrive with his support. Nate thinks he should go to Abby to discuss it. Maybe he’s right, Devon thinks. “You made me think about things a little differently.”
Sally arrives at Grand phoenix and sees Tessa. She tells her that her performance was amazing. “I am such a huge fan,” she says. Tessa thanks her. Sally’s trying to make connections to people she admires and respects. She saw her on GC Buzz when she put the lines from Mariah’s diary in her song. Tessa says that was a long time ago. Sally says it made her felt a kinship with her. Tessa gets it. She’s comparing her dresses to Tessa’s songs. Tessa says most of her songs are about her relationship with Mariah. Sally channels her feelings into her designs for Victoria’s wedding dress.
Ambition is a trait she shares with Victoria. Sally would love to design outfits for her touring. Tessa wears her normal clothes, she admits. Sally thinks since they’re both fighters, it could be a good jump off point. Noah arrives and Sally tells him that she was trying to talk Tessa into working together in the future. Noah says they’re working on her new album cover. Sally wants a sneak peek but Eeyore Noah says it’s not ready, so Sally toddles off.
Noah calls her trouble. Tessa has heard. Noah thinks she should stay away from her but Tessa has empathy for her. She spent Christmas alone. Noah agrees but she brought it on herself. Tessa has been in her shoes. Maybe they shouldn’t judge. He’s always liked her generous heart. He shows her the album cover. She loves it because she’ll always associate it with Mariah. “Why is that?” She smiles. It’s because she was thinking of her when the photo was taken. She admits they’re thinking of having a baby of their own. He’s happy for them as long as it’s what they both want. Tessa is ready. He deserves credit for the conversations they had about Mariah. She texts and Tessa says she’s off to have coffee with her. “Sounds fun. Tell her I’m excited to be an uncle.” Tessa thanks him and goes. He sits back glumly and thinks.
Chance pops by Society. Abby’s freaking out on a call with a supplier and Dominic fusses and cries. She tells them she’ll have to call back later and disconnects as Chance appears. He offers to take the kid home. She isn’t sure he should and he says it’ll be fine.
At home, Dom doesn’t want to take a bottle that Chance tries to give him. Devon turns up and Chance admits he can’t get the kid to take a bottle. He asks Devon if he has special tricks. Devon says he’ll give it a try. Devon the baby whisperer takes a few moments to calm the boy. Abby walks in.
Tessa stops by Crimson Lights to get coffee for Mariah. Sharon thinks she and Mariah should consider moving into the apartment upstairs. Tessa calls Mariah and they agree to move in. Sharon’s thrilled. Tessa thanks her. She’s overcome as she tells Sharon she’s so supportive and that it means a lot to her. She cries. They hug.
Chelsea finds Adam at work and tells him Chloe officially fixed issues in her contract and she’ll start soon. Adam’s glad. He closes the door and thinks of the present of the lake house he gave her. There’s significance to it that wasn’t lost on him. He asks what she was trying to tell him. She admits she misses that time and asks if he does. Noah interrupts. He knocks and lets himself in, then asks if it’s a bad time.
Chelsea thanks him for the hockey lesson with her kid and hopes he does another. Noah takes off and Chelsea thinks Adam’s reading too much into the gift. Adam isn’t but they have to accept that what they had is over. Chelsea hopes they can spend as much time together on their son’s break as Sally eavesdrops.
