(This day ahead recap episode airs in the USA on Jan 8. Expect spoilers! Recaps go live by 4:15 PM EST daily.)
In Nikki’s office at Newman Media, she finds Victor looking in her drawers and accuses him of looking for her booze stash. He claims he was just looking for a pen.
She tells him he doesn’t need to worry about her and he offers to take her to lunch. She needs to check her schedule first.
The one thing she will miss about Claire is what a great assistant she was. They better find a replacement who isn’t out to kill her.
He has to get to a meeting with his sons but will see her later. She couldn’t bear it if they disappointed him again.
Victor thinks he has the right incentive plan to keep them behaving this time and takes off.
She immediately shuts the door and pulls a flash out of her desk.
Holding it, she opens and then closes it before putting it away without a drink.
Nikki calls her sponsor to say she’s having a hard time and needs to meet.
In Victor’s office, the brother wonder what this meeting is about. They assume it’s about what happens in Victoria’s absence.
Adam assumes their father wants them to work together but Nick dismisses that as a fantasy.
Nick is sure they could make it work for a little while but then his brother would get bored and self-destruct again.
Adam is trying not to self-destruct this year. His brother doesn’t buy it but Adam says they can find common ground. They have in the past.
That’s all a small dent in his long history of betrayal, says Nick.
Victor strolls in and announces it’s been a difficult time for the company. It’s time to start new.
They don’t know how long Victoria will be gone but it warms his heart to see his sons there and he wants them working alongside him.
Nick is willing to step into Victoria’s role. Their father announces they will be working as Co-CEOs under him.
Can they handle that or will they be at each other’s throats?
Adam is committed to making it work and Nick offers to do his best to give his brother the benefit of the doubt.
Their father says that’s a start and gives them a task to come up with a presentation for the afternoon.
Adam leaves to work on it and Nick will catch up with him later.
As soon as he’s gone, Nick asks his dad if he’s seriously thought this through. He makes it clear he’s only doing this for him and hopes Adam won’t
let him down again.
Victor says that’s not an option of either of them.
Nick and Adam go to Crimson Lights and talk through their presentation. They debate branding and Nick shoots down all of his brother’s ideas.
Nick makes it clear he doesn’t like working with him.
Adam thinks they are doomed if he plays it this way. Does he really want to run to their dad to decide all this?
Nick apologizes for being unfair and not trying.
They start debating names and Adam suggests they handle this acquisition differently, treating it more as an investment and lead with trust.
Nick likes that and smiles.
Nikki goes to Society, and Seth (played by Brian Gaskill), her sponsor, joins her. She admits she’s having trouble coping after what her family went through.
He says that the way she was pushed off the wagon was worse than assault. She must be furious.
“Sometimes the rage is so infuriating,” she says, knowing how dangerous anger is.
Seth asks why it took her so long to call him. He’s been leaving her message.
He just wants to help but feels like she’s been trying to do this alone. She admits it and it works some days.
Nikki says her family has been supportive and her husband has been hovering.
She caught him searching her desk but he didn’t find her office flask. She’s been keeping it as a test for herself.
He asks if that’s the real reason or just an excuse.
Her husband thinks she’s the strongest person in the world. “That’s a lot to live up to,” he says.
Nikki feels like she owes him her life. Seth tells her not to give anyone that power. She needs to do this for herself.
He reminds her she can call him any time.
She’s determined that she can get through this but it’s harder than before.
In the past, she’s relied on friends but they have passed on.
Victor arrives and she introduces them. She assures her husband that Seth is very discrete.
Seth explains how he deals with being a sponsor. Victor isn’t anticipating any missteps.
Once Seth takes off, Victor sits down and asks his wife why she never mentioned that guy. She points out it’s all anonymous.
She tells him things have been going well until today and she didn’t feel the need to reach out.
Victor reminds her she assured him it was alright earlier. Is she struggling more than she’s letting on?

At the Abbott estate, Jack, Kyle, and Ashley note that Tucker and his PR team haven’t responded to the scandal at all. He wonders if this means McCall is in retreat or this is the calm before the storm.
Ashley is sure that Glacade wants Tucker’s head on a spike. Kyle thinks he’s still out for blood after what happened in Paris.
Ashley flashes back to her fight with Tucker and Jack hates how much it bothers her. She can’t stop remembering it.
After she walks off, they note how rattled she still is. Jack thinks it’s time to get Tucker out of their lives for good.
They need to finish the job and not get wishful about him being wounded.
Kyle is still trying to play him but the ball is in Tucker’s court.
He sends Tucker a text, badgering him for an answer.
Jack is starting to suspect that McCall could already be onto him. He’s cunning enough for that.
He tells his son that he needs to allow for this. Tucker is operating on adrenaline and rage.
Kyle insists he can handle this. It has to work.
Tucker wanders in the GCAC. Audra has been looking for him. He hasn’t responded to any of her texts.
She guesses he has no plan and the Abbotts have knocked him off his game.
He needs breakfast before he fills her in. “Heads have already rolled,” he says.
They get a table. He says there will be no defense or PR counter-move. They will lay low and re-group until it fizzles out in a couple of days.
The board at Glacade are angry so he’s firing all of them. That doesn’t mean he’s walking away from the company.
She thinks this more of a death rattle than a hiccough. He refuses to let the Abbotts defeat him.
He has no use for Kyle until he finds out if he’s setting another Abbott trap. He needs to know where he stands.
Audra tells him he’s been playing him all along. Kyle confessed all of this to her and she was tempted to go to his side.
As frustrating as Tucker can be, she’s sure he will still come out on top. She has more of a connection with him than she ever could with Kyle.
Their relationship may be twisted and fickle but it’s the strongest one she’s ever had. If it’s been Tucker and Kyle, it will always be Tucker.
He’s happy to hear that.
Ashley walks in and spots them together.
She sits at table alone, to Audra’s chagrin. Tucker explains that his ex accused him of getting violent in Paris.
She doesn’t think that sounds like him. It obviously scared Ashley.
He doesn’t think she’s playing him and seems to sincerely believe this happened. Audra suggests he might he trying to convince himself of this because he wants to salvage his marriage.
He flashes back to the fight while Ashley does the same. As she gets up to go, Tucker chases after her.
At the entrance, he says it’s like she’s fleeing just because he’s in the room.
He doesn’t understand how she’s afraid to be around him even in public. Has she convinced herself he was violent?
She accuses him of gaslighting her. He thinks she’s misremembering and she thinks he’s minimizing.
“One of us is wrong and it’s not me,” she declares, walking out.
Back at the table, Audra sees the text Kyle sent to Tucker.
