Co-Executive Producer/Head Writer Josh Griffith previews what’s going down with all of the Genoa City residents of Y&R in 2023 with Soap Opera Digest.
What’s coming up in 2023 on Y&R?
Josh Griffith calls 2023 “The most exciting year… It’s Y&R’s 50th anniversary, and we’re going to make the most of it.”
Sounds pretty exciting, they have some big plans! Griffith goes on to say, “Everybody will be in the middle of incredibly exciting, suspenseful, romantic, heartbreaking, emotionally powerful stories!”
Kyle & Summer’s Marriage Will Be Tested
Kyle (Michael Mealor) & Summer’s (Allison Lanier) marriage is going to be tested by their mothers and Jeremy Stark (James Hyde).
Griffith says, “Just when they think they’ve gotten over one hurdle, another one crops up, and Summer will be forced to put her foot down in order to protect her family.”
Mariah & Tessa’s Journey to Adoption
According to Griffith, Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) are “on the road to becoming parents, but along the way, there will be a few ‘uh-ohs'”.
We knew that was coming, things for this amazing couple never seem to go without a hitch! Griffith promises a “wonderful, heart-warming journey for ‘Teriah’, and they deserve it.”
We completely agree, it’s time for Tessa and Mariah to have their time in the spotlight!
Nick, Sally, and Adam’s Baby Drama
Maybe she should have taken some extra precautions, but either way, the last thing that Sally (Courtney Hope) expected or wanted was a pregnancy!
Griffith promises some unexpected twists. “Just when you think you know where this story is going, it’ll take a left turn.”
He goes on to say that “No matter who the dad is… It’s going to be messy, and Sally’s right in the middle of it.”
Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Adam’s (Mark Grossman) dear old dad Victor (Eric Braeden), is in a no-win situation, because “either way, this affects one of his sons”.
Chance and Sharon – A possible romance?
Chance (Connor Floyd) appears to getting more of a story, getting “involved in an investigation that will tie into Jack and Diane”.
It seems that he’ll be questioning whether he needs to make a career change, and Sharon (Sharon Case) will be right there to offer “very compelling and supportive advice”.
Griffith hints that Sharon’s involvement might lead to something more between the two characters!
Ashley Makes a Move that Tucker Can’t Foresee
Hints are dropped that Ashley (Eileen Davidson) is going to make a move that Tucker (Trevor St. John) won’t even see coming, even though he always feels like he’s in control.
Expect Tucker to be a point of contention between Jack (Peter Bergman) and Ashley… Never a dull moment between those two!
Victor wants Adam back in the family business
Victor is hatching big plans to bring Adam back into the Newman fold.
Griffith says that “Victor will play hardball and maybe even play dirty to get his hands on something he thinks will be so appealing to Adam that he’ll come home to it.”
Sounds like typical Victor Newman tactics… He’s never one to shy away from getting his hands dirty to get what he wants!
Chancellor-Winters and the push to IPO causes rifts
The push to bring Chancellor-Winters public is “tearing Devon (Bryton James) and Lily (Christel Khalil) apart”.
All that Lily wants is to bring these two entities, Chancellor and Hamilton-Winters, together as a family company to honor both Neil (Kristoff St. John) and Katherine (Jeanne Cooper).
Nate (Sean Dominic) is affected because of his guilt over betraying his cousins is causing them to fall apart.
It’s hinted that Nate’s going to try to mend the rifts he’s caused, and that there will be an “11th hour savior” for the company.
Lauren gets an award
Y&R wants to celebrate Lauren’s (Tracey Bregman) 40 years of being part of the cast.
Lauren will be the “recipient of this great award, and it’s going to bring a lot of surprise guests to the event to share with her.”
Daniel and Lily
It seems that Daniel (Michael Graziadei) and Lily might be spending more time together.
“They’ve both grown up a lot since the last time they were together,” says Griffith.
He goes on to say that they’re coming back together as friends who will be there for each other, and that they need each other for support.
Maybe Billy should have taken note, but it appears he’s more interested in Chelsea lately!
Victoria, Nate, and Elena – Relationships are on shaky ground!
Elena (Brytini Sarpy) and Nate’s relationship is going to be tested, “because Victoria (Amelia Heinle) is free and in a position where she can go after what she wants.”
Seems that she’s offering Nate a chance to move forward in the world of big business, which leads to them spending lots of time together, often late into the night.
Sounds like Victoria and Nate might be getting a little closer than Elena’s comfortable with!
Billy and Chelsea’s relationship evolves
They’ve had a tumultuous past, but ever since Billy (Jason Thompson) stepped up on the ledge with Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and told her that he’s not going anywhere, there was a deep connection forged between these two.
Griffith says, “What’s fascinating to me is that we’re getting to tell the story realistically and honestly”, and that “Helping Chelsea get back on her feet is changing and maturing Billy in a way that’s never happened before.”
I guess we’ll see if Billy’s “maturing” is going to stick, or whether he’ll go back to his old ways!
Devon and Abby
We’ve known ever since they “fell” into each other’s arms (and onto the sofa, and armchair, and stairs!) that their relationship was going to change, but Devon and Abby (Melissa Ordway) have been getting closer ever since Chance and Amanda (Mishael Morgan) dropped them like hot stones.
The head writer says, “For years, this was a couple that I kept saying, ‘This will never happen’, and now they’re happening.”
Looks like it’s time to see what these two are like together, for real!
Phyllis, Jack, Diane, and Jeremy
Jeremy Stark has dropped in like a bomb into Genoa City, and Jack and Diane are going to be forced to work together to defuse this peril!
The head writer teases that “as Jack and Diane try to figure out how to solve this problem, they’ll continue to get closer.”
Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), Ashley, and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) are “intricately involved,” and Jack and Diane’s bond will “continue to drive Phyllis absolutely crazy and heading toward extreme payback”.
Knowing Phyllis, she’ll fly off the rails and bring down the Hammer of Justice, misplaced though it may be. Can’t wait to see what she does!
