Soaps Spoilers has the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for Friday, October 22, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Monday, October 25. (Recaps live by 5:45 PM EST daily.) In the previous episode, Chance is presumed dead. In this episode, Abby won’t believe Chance is dead, Billy gives Rey information about Gaines so he can find the missing lawyer, and Amanda is asked by Michael to take the stand in Sutton’s case.
At the Chancellor house, Abby refuses to believe Chance is dead. Mariah and Tessa turn up and Ashley gets the door. She urges them to come inside. They worry upon seeing the serious expression she wears. Christine explains that Chance is presumed dead from a bombing and Abby relays that they’re trying to remain positive. Christine goes off to make some calls to find out more intel. Abby asks what brings them by. Mariah thinks it seems silly, now. Ash thinks they could use that now. Mariah explains that Tessa brought a gift back for Dominic from the wedding. She whips out the bear and Abby thanks her. “Thank you for thinking of him.” She thinks he’ll love it and tells the baby that the bear will keep him company. Christine returns with information from a contact at the bureau. Local police and fire department teams are starting a search of the buildings. There’s nothing to report yet. Abby checks her phone. “Maybe he called or texted me,” she says but there’s nothing. She knows he’ll call. Mariah is sure she’s right. Christine knows one more person in DC. A supervisor but she doesn’t think she’ll know anything. Abby goes with her into the other room as everyone else waits. Mariah thinks the baby has the right idea, sleeping through this ordeal.
At Society, Michael tells Devon and Amanda that the jury selection is complete on Sutton’s case. Sutton’s defense team is up in arms with those he got removed for having a bias going in. Devon and Amana smile. She wishes she would have been there to see. The trial starts next week. Michael wants her to testify against him. She’s thrown. He explains that all he’ll question her on is what she learned after she was fired. It’s fair game, he says, but Amanda doesn’t think the defense team will agree. He knows. Devon knows it’ll be grueling. “Yes, grueling. That’s a good word.” Her testimony can span several days. Devon asks if she wants to put herself through that. He gets a message from Abby to come to the mansion for an emergency. “Go, I’ll be fine,” Amanda says. She asks him to let her know as soon as he knows what’s up. They say I love yous and Devon goes. Michael offers to go over their concerns. She worries that her recording is inadmissible and that it’s her word against Sutton’s. Michael thinks the jury will be interested in it. If the judge doesn’t allow it, the jury will still know what’s on it. Nobody will be able to ‘unhear’ the sworn testimony. Michael will mention being deprived of meeting Hilary. Amanda calls it manipulative but that’s what they’ll be thinking about when they call for pizza that night. They need to make it seem as relative and urgent today as when it was committed. Amanda’s excited to win the case.

Billy goes to Rey at Crimson Lights to discuss Jesse Gaines who has information that could cause a scandal. He says that the man has disappeared. He thinks Adam is involved. Billy lets Rey in on Ashland having secrets he wants to be kept quiet and how Gaines wanted to reveal it all. Billy won’t tell the secret but knows it’d jeopardize what Locke was built. If Rey wants justice for Gaines and to “rid us all of Adam, this is your opportunity.” Sharon turns up. Rey tells her that Billy was looking for advice on a mission person. Rey needs time to look into this. He can’t make promises. Billy thanks him and goes. Sharon fishes for information but gets nothing.

Sally strolls into Adam’s office. “Check your email,” she says. They got fifteen glowing reviews about Victoria’s gown. “From Sally Spectra for Newman Fashion,” she reveals, proudly. He congratulates her and says they should celebrate. “Why don’t we grab a bite. My treat.” She’s in and pauses before telling him she’ll invite Chloe and make it a working dinner. She goes and he smirks.

Nick arrives at Grand Phoenix to see Phyllis. She heard he returned and promptly saw Sharon. He tells her about Noah’s return and how he wanted to be with him when he told Sharon he was coming home. He admits it’s impulsive and Noah doesn’t want to talk about why he left. She asks if he thinks it’s serious. Nick isn’t sure. Phyllis wonders if he’d like to talk about what’s going on between them. He thought they were over this. She needs more convincing. He isn’t pushing her away. He wouldn’t do that. Phyllis admits that’s how it felt. She doesn’t like being distant from her. They kiss and she leads him to the elevator. They kiss inside and once they’re in their room, they make love. After, they discuss Nick’s issues with his family and how he feels like an outsider. She sees how he’s always there for them and he’s the only one who is seen as being weak or not taken seriously. Nick sighs in frustration. She asks what she said. He knows she hates his family and it’s hard to hear how much she can’t stand them. Phyllis jumps back into her clothes and says fine, he can ignore how they treat him all they want. “Who cares about what your screwed-up family thinks?” Nick says for better or worse, that’s his family. They’re important to him and she wants to trivialize it. She denies it but he always thinks the worst about her no matter how hard she works to bend over backward to help with his family.
Sally and Adam get a drink at Society. Sally leaves when Billy appears and the men discuss Gaines’ disappearance. Billy lets him know that Gaines vanished after he vowed to ensure Ashland’s story came out one way or another. Adam asks, “Why is it that you’re always looking for the nefarious side of everything?” Billy shrugs and says it’s probably because Adam’s always involved in the nefarious. Billy doesn’t buy that Adam’s a good person. He calls what he’s doing a carefully calculated act to convince Sharon and everyone else that it’s real. He accuses Adam of doing anything to get a pat on the head from his dad. Adam can see Billy’s accusing him of doing something to make Gaines go off the grid. He considers maybe he grew a conscience. Billy doubts it. Adam thinks they’ll never know. Sally returns as Billy leaves and questions Adam. He says Billy was posturing. They move to get a table and talk about Chloe being unable to come. Adam tells her that they’re both believing that they’re bettering themselves but neither can believe the other has done it. Sally thinks he has done it. Adam didn’t like who he was and Billy still misses his reckless lifestyle. “He’s just an addict who found another way to get a rush.” Trying to destroy him will always be a rush and he’ll never stop blaming him for the loss of his daughter. Adam gets it. He earned his hatred but will never like or respect him.
Devon arrives at Abby’s and Ashley meets him. He asks if the baby’s okay and Ash says the baby’s fine but that Chance is presumed dead. Abby returns and he hugs her and tells her he’s sorry but they won’t give up. She’s grateful and could use his hope and strength.
At the park, Billy calls Artie to tell him Gaines is missing again and he thinks the man posed a threat to the Newmans and that he’s theorizing that Adam is behind it. Since the police need more information, he asks him to search for Gaines himself. He disconnects and finds Sharon behind him. “Now it all makes sense, why you went to Rey,” she tells him. She’s disgusted that he keeps trying to go after Adam and asks when it’ll stop. When will he let go of his hatred for Adam?
