In this episode of CBS’ The Young and the Restless, Sally comforts Nick, Sharon tells Chance about her rivalry with Phyllis, and Summer throws herself into planning the memorial. In the previous episode, Phyllis appears alive in a hotel room as grieving Summer tore into Diane, and Lily comforted Daniel as he beat himself up.

Nick stares out the window in a suite at the athletic club. Sally tries to comfort him. “Phyllis is gone,” he says.
He’s tried calling his daughter but she needs space. It’s getting hard for him to stay away. Noah and Allie are going to come home from a trip. Faith is staying at school.
He hasn’t had the heart to tell Christian yet. The kid is at the zoo eating ice cream and he didn’t want to ruin that.
Sally thinks he’s amazing and admires how he’s taking care of his kids. But he needs someone to lean on too and he can count on her.
Nick can’t stop thinking about why this happened. Phyllis was a big part of his life and he will miss her.
This still doesn’t feel real. Phyllis was the embodiment of life and lived to the fullest.
That electricity is what drew him to her. He was at the lowest point in his life when they go together.
Choking up, Nick tells her he feels terrible for betraying Sharon but he was drowning and Phyllis was his life line.
Everything was extreme with her. That was what was best and worst about her. She drove him nuts sometimes.
In the long run, they weren’t meant to be together but stayed close for Summer. That gave them an unbreakable bond. It scares him to think of how their daughter will get through this.
Sally assures him that he will be able to help her daughter. She’s just reeling right now and in uncharted emotional territory. She needs some guidance.
That’s exactly what he wants but he doesn’t want to be too forceful. Sally says his daughter adores him and will come when she’s ready.
He’d do anything to take her pain away. He wishes he could give her Mr. Ears and promise that everything will be okay, but that’s not a promise he can make anymore.
She hugs him.
At the Abbott estate, Jack tells his son that losing Phyllis isn’t easy for him, even if they weren’t getting along.
Kyle doesn’t know how to deal with his wife. She’s overwhelmed and consumed with the assumption that Diane had something to do with Phyllis’ collapse.
He asks his father what he thinks about it. They are both sure that Diane is innocent but Kyle worries about what the police will do.
Summer comes down the stairs. She doesn’t want to talk about anything. They agree to that. She’s determined to get to work but they suggest she stay away.
This isn’t about Marchetti; it’s something else and it can’t wait. She wants to arrange her mother’s memorial service.
They urge her not to push herself but she’s having none of that.
Sharon arrives at Crimson Lights. She watches Chance and Christine walk out to the patio.
Christine tells Chance they can’t run an autopsy on the body because it was destroyed.
There is only a blood sample. If it tuns out to validate the EMT’s claims that Phyllis said something about poison, they will have a whole investigation on their hands.
As they mull this over, Michael arrives. He can hardly stand.
Chance leaves them alone and Christine pays her condolences. Michael says that there aren’t enough words to describe what he and Lauren are feeling.
The town won’t be the same without Phyllis raising hell. She admits she’s wished her gone, but never like this. Christine promises to make sure justice is done.
Michael has some information to share. He explains that he turned his phone off at the gala. After leaving in a daze, he turned it back on in the middle of the night.
He plays the voicemail Phyllis left. She called in a panic, saying Diane is out of control and she was terrified. Diane attacked her and threatened to kill her.
“I’m actually afraid of that crazy bitch!” Phyllis says.
Christine laughs and says that she’s loathed Phyllis for decades. Now, the one person in charge of getting justice for her is her worst enemy.
Michael laughs. “It’s almost as if Phyllis planned this,” he says.
He tells her that he’s been a buffer between Phyllis and Diane but it hasn’t been easy. They don’t know what to make of the call. Phyllis frightened is hard to believe.
Clearly she was afraid of Diane, but why?
Sharon tells Chance about Nick and Phyllis’ affair and the beginning of their rivalry. It was pretty ugly. She can’t blame it all on her.
But whether you loved or hated Phyllis, she had a talent for sparking extreme emotions.
Ultimately, they found a way to be civil to each other. When she had cancer, Phyllis showed her genuine kindness and that was the last thing she expected.
She was like two different people: one vicious and scheming and the other capable of love and compassion. Now they’re both gone.
Nikki and Victor are at Society discussing Phyllis’ death. He says she was one of a kind and her death will affect friend and foe.

Nikki and Victor stop by the Abbott house to see Summer. They tell her she doesn’t have to stay strong for them.
She insists she’s fine and needs to stay focused. She’s already planning the memorial.
Nikki says they can count on her for anything they need.
Summer doesn’t want to be coddled. Victor gives her a hug.
She says that her mom left feeling alone and abandoned and she’s determined to show the world how much she was loved.
Kyle says they all respect where she’s coming from but she needs to let them be there for her.
She heads off. Jack and Victor share their concerns.
“Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy… it must be awful,” Victor says. He finds the whole thing strange. His people visited the crash site and the ambulance was on a bizarre route.
Jack is sure that all roads lead to Stark. Victor kind of agrees.
At the motel, Stark brings Phyllis some terrible coffee and tells her to forget seeing Crimson Lights again. Their plan is moving perfectly and she’s getting all she ever wanted.
She stares, miserably. When she heads to the bathroom, someone knocks at the room door. It’s Carson, the EMT. Stark lets him in.
Phyllis isn’t happy he knew where to find them. Stark pays him off.
She asks Carson if everyone bought the story. He says they totally bought it and stuck to the script completely. Jeremy tells him to stick to it and keep it simple, then ushers him out.
Phyllis worries about how skittish that guy seems. She paces and complains as Stark counts his cash.
He explains the driver is likely on a different continent now and the corpses were from the morgue. He laughs that this is the same plan Diane used years ago. Only now she’ll be the murder suspect.
He hopes that Phyllis is not having regrets. She’s just concerned about her kids. He reminds her she knew how hard this would be on them.
She could see how worried her kids were and how frightened they were when she fell. That wasn’t something she was expecting.
When she asks for how they reacted, he shuts her down and reminds her of how furious she was. That’s why she agreed to take things this far.
Her kids made her an enemy and they will move on. That’s what what people do. She needs to do that too.
He tells her they need to live with this. Now it’s time for them to go their separate ways.
“It’s been real,” he says, adding he’ll remember their marriage. She notes that he made out well in the bargain and got half her estate.
He reminds her that she has a new ID and plenty of cash. She can reinvent herself anywhere in the world.
Phyllis admits she didn’t make any future plans. She thought their scheme might go wrong.
He tells her she can do anything and have the life she deserves. And Diane can get the life she deserves behind bars.
Stark calls her a car for the airport and tells her to just pick somewhere to go. She needs to leave tonight.
Phyllis reads about her death on her phone.
