Soaps Spoilers has the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for Wednesday, October 20, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, October 21. (Recaps live by 5:45 PM EST daily.) In the previous episode, Adam stopped things with Sally before sex. In this episode, Chloe informs Sally of the damage that happened due to Victoria wearing Lauren’s dress, Devon gives Abby and Adam advice, and Tessa is home.
At Crimson Lights, Sally and Adam talk about how it’s just the beginning for her career. Chloe approaches and can’t recall when she saw them with such big smiles on their faces. Sally says they’re happy. Chloe thought they were going to keep “this” professional. Did something happen in Tuscany? She wonders. They shrug. They get coffee and lie that nothing happened in Tuscany between them. Adam goes to a meeting and Chloe shares what happened with Lauren regarding the anger over Victoria using her dress instead of Lauren’s. “She ripped me to shreds,” Chloe reveals. Sally’s sorry she got caught in the crossfire. Chloe thinks she could have given Lauren a heads up. Sally assumes that would have ruined their scheme. “Don’t say ‘scheme’,” Chloe asks. It makes it sound worse. Sally feels terrible since Lauren’s part of Chloe’s family. She offers to take the whole blame but Chloe confessed to her part. Sally offers to do anything she can to help. Lauren pops up. “Oh, I think you’ve done more than enough already.” Lauren gets emotional and tears up when she calls her conniving and self-serving. Sally had to rebuild her reputation. Lauren finds it a funny way to do this by employing the same tactics as she used to. Sally argues that Victoria decided which dress she wanted to wear. “This is your defense?” Lauren thinks she’s only interested in her own success and will alienate everyone. Sally knows she can’t say anything to make her feel better. She hopes one day she’ll see her in a different light. Chloe asks if there’s still a chance to repair things between them. Lauren says, “I say this out of love.” She asks her to cut Sally loose. She’s sure the redhead will stab her in the back.

Tessa arrives home to an empty hotel suite. She puts her things away and leaves out a present then calls Mariah to leave a message that she’s home. She jokes that she was expecting streamers, “Maybe a cake.” She’s wiped out so will see her soon.
Mariah arrives at Abby’s with milk and the nanny purses her lips. Mariah offers to watch Dom so she can take a breather. She agrees for a few minutes and hands the milk over. The nanny takes off and Mariah rocks the baby. She tells him she’s a mess and is trying hard to work on her issues. She doesn’t know how to let her connection to him go. She needs to learn to move forward. She admits she was worried her and Tessa weren’t on the same page about their future. She’s still afraid. She thanks him for listening and promises she’ll see him soon. She gets to the door and then decides to stay longer and goes back to him.

Pamela quits Society for another job. Devon eavesdrops as Abby tries to coax her to stay by offering more money. That isn’t what she’s after. She wants to create her own menu. Abby understands but their customers love the current menu. Abby thinks she should have a chance to put an imprint what she serves and offers to allow her to create a few new dishes. Pamela decides to stay. “You’re the best,” She says and then after she runs off, Devon congratulates Abby, who thinks this may not last. She misses Lola, “Who is like a superhero.” She misses her friendship, too. Talk turns to her missing Chance, too and not hearing from him for months. He hasn’t even held his own son. Devon thinks it’s okay to feel everything she’s feeling. Abby admits she wakes up crying in her sleep and calling out Chance’s name. “I don’t know how much more of this I can stand.” She pours out her heart and Devon gives her one of his famous pep talks which perks her up a little. She admits she wishes he never took this case.
At the Grand Phoenix lobby, Adam gets a call from Chelsea. They discuss Connor’s teacher. Adam thinks he should be accelerated to the next course in math. Chelsea is surprised he told the teacher this without her input. She agrees but wished he would have consulted with him. He couldn’t get a hold of her. She says something and he retorts, “Then what’s the problem?” Devon pops up and Adam tells her his meeting started. He disconnects and shares what happened with Devon. Devon thinks it’s understandable that she feels pushed aside as a parent right now. He’s impressed at how Adam stepped up for his child. “Thank you,” Adam says. Devon’s stepping up for Nick since he’s still overseas. He heard that they had a tiff. Adam says it’s just a little disagreement. They get down to business. Later, Devon urges Adam to call Chelsea back and make things right. Chelsea’s missing her son and Adam has him all the time. “Take the high road. You can afford to be generous.”
Later, Adam calls Chelsea to tell her he was wrong to make a decision like that without her. He apologizes and asks how her mama is doing, then asks when she can come back to Genoa City. Sally walks in and hears Adam get upset. “If you wanna come back, I don’t understand the hesitation, Chelsea… Okay but that’s not what I’m saying.” She disconnects and Sally asks if he’s okay. He tells her the mother of his son hung up on him. He asks what she wants. She looks upset and moves to leave but he stops her with an apology. She tells him that she had a run-in with Lauren. He’s sorry. She just wanted him to know and wanted a friendly ear. He reminds her she doesn’t work for Lauren and Victoria made her own decision about the dress. Adam doesn’t think she committed a crime or anything.
Abby arrives home and smiles as she finds Mariah reading to Dom from a book about a dragon. “This is a nice surprise,” she says. Mariah hopes she doesn’t mind her stopping by. Abby tells her that she’s always welcomed there. She was surprised she didn’t go to Italy and thought she’d stop by sooner. Mariah didn’t want to overstep. Abby doesn’t want there to be weirdness between them and offers to let her visit any time. Mariah has breast milk for her. They laugh and Mariah asks if she could use it — she knows she was talking about weaning the baby. The pediatrician says she’s comfortable with switching to formula and promises she’s not shutting Mariah out. Mariah talks about not being in the mood to go to the wedding or be around people. Devon turns up to see how Abby’s doing. She’s fine and lets him in. Mariah tells them she loves them both and thinks they’ve been incredible through this whole ordeal. They all have a bond bringing Dom into the world. She’ll cherish it forever. She knows they’ve worried about her struggles. She’s working on it and doing better. Abby and Devon can see she’s happier and they’re relieved. Abby didn’t want the wall between them. She was thrilled to see Mariah reading to Dom and wants her to have a prominent role in his life. “I’m ready,” she reassures. “We’re still the Baby Chancellor crew. We should call ourselves the Baby Dominic Crew.” Abby thinks that’s just great. Mariah goes home and Devon’s glad she put Abby in a better mood. Abby admits she feels better. He tells her she can count on him. He goes and she wonders when Chance is coming home.

Mariah returns home and smiles as she finds a sweet note from Tessa about the sweet love in the air and how she missed Mariah sharing that with her. This is her way of making up for that. Mariah opens the box. It’s a bear. Tessa admits she bought it at the airport and thought of her constantly. She writes how much she loves her girlfriend. Mariah giggles and goes to sit beside her while she sleeps. Tessa wakes up and Mariah welcomes her home. Mariah likes her gift. She admits she’s made some important decisions but says it can wait. She lets Tessa sleep.
