The Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Wednesday, July 14, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, July 15. In the previous episode, Adam learned that Sally was angry with Tara, for leaking Ashland’s breathing issues in the video. In this episode, Abby and Tessa argue, Sharon doesn’t take Mariah’s disappearance too seriously, Devon supports Amanda and Abby.
Amanda works at home as Devon tries to talk to her. She’s convinced Sutton hired someone to scrub his online profile and her PI is reporting the same thing. She wishes she did a deep dive on him to begin with. She needs to create reasonable doubt in her mother’s case and wants to find something that shows Sutton hired someone to tamper with her father’s breaks. She won’t stop digging.
Billy finds Tara in the park and asks how she’s doing. She pities him that her life passes for news these days. He knows. He thinks today’s news from Ash is perfectly timed with the video. They decided against posting the video. She’s glad someone has ethics. “Yeah, that’s me. Ethics.” He won’t exploit his illness and calls it unsavory that someone would want to leak that video. Tara’s glad that Harrison’s part of such a caring family. She goes home and he considers calling Lily and then leaves the park.

Sharon and Tessa talk about Mariah at Crimson Lights about Mariah not contacting anyone. Doesn’t Sharon think it’s weird? Sharon shrugs. Abby calls. Jack spoke to the marketing department and says she set up some meetings and is taking a few days off. She didn’t say where she was but assured Jack she’s fine. Abby wonders why she didn’t tell them. Sharon thinks she didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. “Maybe,” Tessa says, looking unconvinced. Later, Abby texts Devon to come over, while Tessa says this doesn’t seem like Mariah. Sharon thinks Mariah’s feeling overwhelmed and that her every move is being watched and judged. She says not to blame herself. Tessa wishes she’d have confided in her. Tessa will send another text to say she loves and misses her. Sharon looks as if Tessa is nuts. Later, Faith turns up. The therapy was good. She grabs lemonade for her and Moses. Sharon recalls things were awkward last time they talked and starts to give her advice. Faith says to please stop. She doesn’t want her advice. Sharon gives it anyway. Moses appears and they go sit. Ben turns up. He and Sharon dish. He says there’s no room for promotion where he is so he is considering taking his old boss’s job at Memorial. Sharon calls that exciting. He’s in for an interview. Max is nearby so he can visit often. Sharon brings up Mariah’s disappearance and how she’s barely texting them. He’s sorry. He didn’t know. Abby must be beside herself. Outside, Faith explains to Moses she’s into him but needs to take things slow. He’s fine with that. He goes and Sharon watches her kid laugh, then texts Mariah that she’s thinking of her.

Later, Billy finds Phylis on her cell at Grand Phoenix. She’s been up for 24 hours, just back from Italy and her coffee is the only thing keeping her from being really rude. He is reminded of why he moved out. She tells him she was with Summer and Nick. Bily has a favor. He needs information about Tara Locke. She assumes it’s because Victoria and Ash hooked up. Billy wants to know how she ticks. Phyllis asks, “Do you have a secret baby with her too?” No, but this is what Billy wants from her, her complete and utter lack of trust for anyone. Devon and Amanda appear. Seeing them together gives her an idea. Meanwhile, Billy bashes Tara. She’s a good mother but he doesn’t trust her other than that. Phyllis has her own thoughts and they both wonder if she’s “doing all this for herself.” Billy wants to know how far she’s willing to go and says this isn’t about an expose. He also wants to know what Sally has to do with this. Phyllis is shocked. Why did he bring her up? He saw Tara and Sally together talking. Phyllis wonders what that’s about. He appreciates her protective instincts. They both want to know what Tara has up her sleeve and how it impacts Summer’s departure. Billy admits Summer was covering up having mixed feelings about leaving Kyle and asked him to be a friend to him. This surprises Phyllis. She assumes Tara and Sally are in on this. Phyllis knows how to deal with this first stage. He says to find him when she’s ready. She makes a call to Summer to tell her she’s home safe and then she starts to cry and says, “I have your back.”

Amanda visits Lily at Chance Comm. She asks for a favor. “A big one.” She tells Lily all about Sutton and his secret and how she’s defending her mother in her father’s murder that she thinks was committed by her grandfather. “How are you handling this?” Amanda tells her she’s hanging in there and brings up seeing Phyllis and Billy chatting privately. Lily seems curious. Amanda asks if she has veteran reporters who might know something about Sutton. Amanda considers Victor might help. Billy arrives and Amanda goes. Lily asks what he’s up to with Phyllis. He explains and says it’s more personal, while the merger story is business.
At her house, Abby rants to Devon about Mariah leaving and not talking to anyone. She doesn’t know what to do and wishes Chance was there. He’d know what to do. Devon calms her down. Tessa returns and got nowhere with Sharon, who thinks they were all over her and overwhelmed Mariah. Abby gets upset and blames Tessa. Devon comes between them. Abby starts to make this about her again and Tessa snaps at her. Devon once again comes between them and tells them to let Mariah have time. She wouldn’t want to know that she’s causing stress between them. Tessa feels bad. They apologize to each other. Devon goes to take a call. Later, Ben arrives, sorry to hear about Mariah. “I’m here if there’s anything you need.”

Phyllis arrives at the mansion with a gift for Jack from Summer. Tara offers to give it to him. Phyllis says she should have called. It seems like she doesn’t want company. Tara has a lot on her mind but offers her to stay and chat. “Id love that. I think it’s time we had a little chat.” Tara asks how Summer is. Phyllis says it’s great. Tara pretends that she hates that she caused damage to her relationship with Kyle. Phyllis says not to think that. She’s proud that her daughter realized she’s not ready to be a step-mom. Phyllis calls the timing on the new job crazy. She doesn’t blame Tara. Tara grins. Phyllis understands her position. Tara calls the Abbotts good to her and says she has a brother who isn’t close and she’s worried about Harrison’s reaction to Ashland’s illness. Phyllis gets an idea. She says she should invite Kyle to be the new man in Harrison’s life. Tara feels the same. Harrison needs support and continuity. He assured her already that he’s devoted. Phyllis clutches her heart, smiling as Tara calls them a family. Phyllis tells Tara she’s happy with the way things turned out. Tara’s glad she sees things that way. “Yeah, I see things clearly now.” She goes and outside, she looks as if she knows what Tara is up to. Phyllis contacts Billy to meet.
