This is the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Wednesday, June 30, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, July 1. In the previous episode, Amanda told Sutton to go to hell when he asked to hire her as Naya’s lawyer, and in this episode, Kyle moves into the Abbott house, Jack and Phyllis argue about Summer, and Ben wants to take Abby out.
Victor knows Ashland’s dying. He joked about not being dead yet. Victoria defends the man saying he’s treating it like a joke because it is. She hides her Locke file and Victor says he’s concerned. Why would she add another layer of complication to her relationship? Victoria thinks her dad is important to the rest of his empire. Victor denies it. Victoria tells her dad that no matter what happens between her and Ashland, it has nothing to do with him or the rest of their family. Nikki walks in as she yells, “I just wish everybody would butt the hell out of my life!” Victor relays his concerns for Ash’s health but Victoria assures him that he’s okay. “Now your mother can continue asking inappropriate questions.” He goes and Nikki thinks she must have been convincing. He never backs down that fast. They agree that Victor will keep fishing for what benefits him. He may decide to attempt a hostile takeover of Locke Communications. Victoria shrugs it off. She’ll win if that happens. “Because I’m holding all the cards.” Nikki reminds her nothing has been signed yet. What if Ashland decides to sell to Victor and Adam? “He’s done it before and he’ll do it again.” She wonders if Ashland’s playing games with his so-called illness. “For all we know, he may have every intention of beating this thing.” Or he’s using this thing to draw her closer. Victoria says he would not turn on her. Nikki hopes so. Later, Victoria calls Ashland to tell him she’ll join him in L.A. after all.

Sally finds Tara with brownies for Harrison. Sally assumes that she’s going home to be with kyle. Tara’s not sure if Kyle will even be there. They talk about Summer’s trip and how Kyle and Summer break up all the time.
At Grand Phoenix, Kyle tells Phyllis he’s moving into the Abbott house to be closer to his son for now. “And his mom?” Kyle’s shocked. Phyllis knows he’s disinterested in Tara but she’s protective of her daughter. Jack appears and tells his son this will be good for him and Harrison. Kyle says there’s no reason for him to waste time on anything else. He goes and Jack says he’s punishing himself. Jack asks Phyllis why Summer really left town. Phyllis blames Harrison and Tara. Jack says she can’t blame them for that but Phyllis thinks she can. “This is a mess. And she extracted herself from the situation and I commend her. And you. You brought it into your home.” Jack can’t deny loving having Harrison in his home. They ponder Ashland’s health. Jack hopes it’s not true for Harrison’s sake. Phyllis thinks the kid is lucky to have him. She calls herself jaded. “I stay in my lane emotionally,” she says. It was hard for her to trust Nick when they first reunited. Jack stops her. He doesn’t like talking about them but it’s a conscious decision to risk it all and he thinks love is worth the risk. Jack asks her to give Summer his love. She will. She goes and Sally pops up. She’s in a great mood again and Jack asks why. She tells him about snagging Summer’s job. He congratulates her. She invites him for a drink as friends or as a ‘maybe one day we can be friends’ drink. Phyllis interrupts before he can respond. Sally will be at Society. She goes and Phyllis tells him he doesn’t want to do what he thinks he wants to do. Jack asks her to stay out of this. Phyllis gapes.

Mariah listens to music and sings on the sofa at Chancellor’s house. She yelps along to the music and Abby comes tearing down the stairs worried. “Is it the baby?” Mariah explains Tessa just posted a new music video and she’s “rocking out.” Ben “Stitch” shows up. Abby’s surprised. He gives her a gift for the baby. She calls it thoughtful and lets him in to say hi to Mariah. He calls what she’s doing generous and learns it’s a boy. He bets Chance can’t wait to do father/son stuff. “I’m pretty sure sons can hang out with their moms,” Abby says. Ben’s surprised to learn Chance is away on assignment and that they don’t know when he’ll be back. Abby goes to get the door to Devon and Abby tells him that Devon’s a part of the surrogacy. Ben’s happy for them all. He admits Max doesn’t recognize him anymore. He doesn’t see him getting better. He has to get to the retirement party and asks Abby to accompany him. Abby passes and he goes. They wonder if he’s lonesome and if it’s hard for him to see Abby moving on. Mariah takes off for Crimson Lights. Abby blames herself for Ben’s suffering and she wants him to be happy like her. After everyone has gone, Victor stops by and checks in on his daughter. SHe tells him everything is good and Stitch is back. Victor’s happy to hear. He calls Stitch a good boxer. “I couldn’t bite down for days after,” he says, reminiscing about what happened after they boxed together. They discuss Max not recognizing Stitch. They feel bad.

Tara greets Kyle on his way into the Abbott home. He tells her he needs alone time and takes off. He returns later and apologizes for being short. She gets it. She offers to listen so he tells her their dream house is almost finished and it’ll sit there empty. “I can’t believe this is over.” He stops talking about it and they head into the kitchen for dinner. Later, she gets an envelope from Ash’s lawyer. The custody agreement. It’s exactly what he said it would be. Kyle’s happy. Tara hopes this makes him feel a little better. They agree it’s great news.

Mariah finds Stitch at Crimson Lights. He went to the party, said hello and took off fast since it wasn’t his scene and most faces he didn’t recognize. He invites her to sit and he tells her it’s great that she’s carrying the baby for Abby. Mariah asks what he’s been up to. “Not much,” he says. He’s a doctor in Iowa City. Mariah takes off.
Jack meets Sally at Society. “Just one drink,” he tells her, smiling.
