Soaps Spoilers has the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for Wednesday, October 27, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, October 28. (Recaps live by 5:45 PM EST daily.) In the previous episode, Christine gave new information on Chance’s death. In this episode, Phyllis and Nick have more issues than ever, while Ashland’s new protocol won’t save his life.
Nick finds Phyllis nursing a hangover at home. She’s upset that Nick’s text was so dismissive. She understood that Christian needed him tough. Nick says it wasn’t his intention but she calls it his instinct. She can’t discuss it now. She’s got a headache and needs to get downstairs to work. She leaves.
Downstairs, Jack yells, “Hey Red!” His breakfast appointment was canceled. She tells him she’s having a rough day. “Too much drinking alone, in my room, and not enough sleep,” she grimaces. He asks if she made progress with Nick. She tried but failed and wonders if she’s blowing things out of proportion. They laugh, “Never done that before,” she says. He offers to lend an ear again. Nick appears and with Jack several feet away, Nick confronts Phyllis for having time for coffee with Jack but no time to talk things out with him. She thought Jack could bring her down a notch before they talked. She assumes he’s judging her for drinking a lot of champagne since he usually does. He apologizes. She’s hurt and angry and doesn’t know what’s up with them. “We are so out of synch.” He understands that she needed space. He tells her she has nothing to be scared of and goes. Phyllis tells Jack she’s a bigger mess than she was before. “Can we get out of here, please?”
At the office, Ashland and Victoria talk about wanting a second opinion on Ashland’s bad news. Victoria ignores a message from Billy asking to meet again and Nate arrives. They share the bad news. Nate agrees with Ashland’s oncologist. Ash sees no reason to do chemo again and Victoria says there’s another experimental option. The Peruvian treatment. Ashland is determined to get a year since he has something to fight for. Neither is happy with their current doctor. Nate invites them to email him the treatment and he’ll look into it for them. He goes and Ash worries that Nate doesn’t seem too encouraged. What if he can’t win this battle? He’s running out of options. Victoria refuses to accept defeat. She knows he’s shaken but he needs to look at statistics. Some bought themselves more time and others have beaten it. He, for the first time since he got cancer, is afraid. She remains him he’s beaten the odds his whole life. It’s only made him stronger. “You better damned well fight it.”
Sharon and Noah chat about what has changed in Genoa City since he’s been gone. He says Faith has grown so much. He hears her beau, Moses, is a good guy. Sharon admits he is. She asks how long he’s going to stay but he’s not sure. He sees Elena wander in, sleepy-eyed. She has jet lag and is tired from work. Sharon gets coffee and Elena welcomes Noah back. He agrees, he’s not over his jet lag, either. Elena goes with her coffee and Sharon tells Noah she lives upstairs. He assumed she lived with Nate since they’re a couple. He’s used to people living together when they’re dating. Sharon turns that into an investigation and asks if he’s speaking from experience. He brushes her off. She presses the issue.
He promises everything is okay and his relationship being over in addition to his feeling like he was stuck in a rut is why he’s home. She’s glad he’s there. They hug. She offers him a job and Nick strolls up. Immediately, Noah asks if he’s okay. He shrugs. He hasn’t seen Victoria since Tuscany. Sharon knows that Ash has a darker past than they realized. Nick says it’s causing issues between his family members. Sharon calls it a shame. Both her and Noah are there for him. “And no doubt, Phylis has your back.” Nick says, “You’d think.” They’re not in a good place right now. He shares that they sniped at each other since the trip and they’re getting tenser. He calls it frustrating and feels he takes one step forward and six back. He thought they were solid. Noah can identify. He experienced something similar. Sharon just listens and when Nick questions her, she has nothing to say. He pushes and she says, “Communication is key.” He thinks she got that from a bumper sticker. Nick says he usually talks to Victoria about this sort of thing and that door is closed. He complains about the giant wall between him and Victoria and him and Phyllis. He thinks he’s the problem. He can feel Phyllis pulling away and has to make her realize what they have is worth fighting for. He takes off and Sharon compliments her son on his good advice to his dad. He asks her thoughts. Sharon thinks their relationship is ready to fall off a cliff. “It’s only a question of when.”
At the park, Phyllis shares with Jack that she set their room up for romance and Nick texted to say he had to stay home with Christian. She wondered if it was true. She doesn’t even know what their issues are but she’s irritated with him and he felt the same with her last night. This morning he acted like it was just a bump in the road. Phyllis doesn’t agree. And she’s not okay. “I don’t live in denial.” She doesn’t think Nick wants to hear the truth about his family. Jack tells her that Nick’s truth isn’t her truth. He reminds her that she left her family. She cries and reminds him her dad was a criminal. Jack thinks that deep inside, she wants him to dump his family the way she dumped hers and that since he hasn’t, it’s upsetting her. Phyllis is thrown. “You think that I’m to blame?” He notices she looks for an exit strategy when her back is up against a wall. She’s surprised. Is she her own worst enemy? He tells her she and Nick have been through so much and they’re drawn to each other. “There’s a reason for that.” She says there’s a reason why things don’t work out.

Nate finds Elena at Society. He’s surprised she hasn’t crashed yet. She was starving. He would have liked to join her but she knows he was with Victoria and Ashland. She asks if they’re floating on air and he tells her that Ash’s protocol isn’t working and they’re interested in new treatment. They want him to look into it. He’s worried about what he’ll find. Ash is his friend. He can’t maintain the usual degree of professional distance. “What if I can’t tell them what they’re hoping to hear?” Elena knows they’re not expecting miracles. She urges him to read the studies, give them the facts and be their friend. He’s glad to be with someone who gets it. She yawns, “I speak doctor,” she says, smiling. She apologizes for yawning. She goes and Nate calls Victoria and Ashland to tell them the new protocol isn’t much better. There may be a chance for improvement but that’s about all. Ashland is willing to try anything.
Phyllis returns home to find Nick waiting, with a romantic dinner.
