Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for Wednesday, January 5, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, January 6. (Recaps live by 5:45 PM EST daily.) In the previous episode, Abby refused to share custody of Dom with Devon. In this episode of CBS’ The Young and the Restless, Devon decides he wants to take legal action to get to be with Dominic, while Moses has a special surprise for Faith, and Billy busts Sally and comes clean.
At work, Victoria looks out of sorts to Ashland. She admits she’s been calling Billy but thinks he’s waffling on the plan. Ash knows there are more powerful ways of undermining Adam.
He’s never been required to trust someone as unpredictable as Billy. Victoria’s not willing to let him go just yet. Ashland questions her motivation. Is it Adam? They haven’t had issues lately. Victoria calls it business.
Ashland thinks she’s once again trying to protect Billy. She claims she has no desire to control Billy. This was his idea. She has no intention of putting Billy in charge at Newman Media. Ashland calls this very risky. He asks her to trust him. He won’t tell her what to do but he thinks she’s making a foolish move, one he doesn’t understand.
At the condo, Billy asks Lily not to pull out of their plan. She wants no part of Victoria’s plan. Billy wants to work with her. They’re stronger together. Lily says things have changed. The goal wasn’t to build Victoria’s empire but to rebuild his reputation. She sees this as he and Victoria fall into old patterns. “I want nothing to do with this,” she says, taking off to work.
At Crimson Lights, Faith bemoans Christmas break ending soon to Noah. She’s reading something that needs to be read before school starts. He apologizes for gifting her a book but she loved it. Adam drops by their table. Moses admits to Adam that each time he sees him, he thinks, “That’s the man that saved Faith’s life.” Later, Moses kicks himself for fan-boying.
He walks over to Elena and asks her for a favor, then goes back to his table to tell Faith he’ll see her later. He takes off with Elena, leaving Faith curious. Noah mopes on in with a new haircut. She tells him where Moses went and she seems jealous.
Noah tells her to chill but she still worries. She reminds him about their parents. People hold back the truth. Noah tells her to be strong enough to roll with the punches. If it does, you suck it up or fall apart. He goes when Moses returns. He sets down a gift.
Elena and Noah watch from nearby, smiling as Faith opens it. It’s a charm bracelet with chess pieces. He says Elena didn’t help him pick it out. He lied about going with her so he wouldn’t spoil the surprise. Meanwhile, Elena and Noah talk about how they met at the romantic wedding in Italy and now they’re witnessing another romantic moment.
At home, Amanda asks Devon if she can make him breakfast. He refuses. She knows he didn’t sleep last night and assumes he’s upset about Dominic. He appreciates her concern. She offers to stay home but he insists she go. It’s their first day with their new clients.
She leaves and sees Lily in the hall. “Talk to him,” she says before she goes. Lily heads in with treats and asks how her brother’s doing. Devon lets her know that they shot him down for shared custody. Lily asks what more he wants. He has visitation. Devon’s worried about his well being. The problem isn’t Abby but Chance, he says. He feels bad for the man, but he admitted he was struggling. He’s not condemning what he’s going through or placing blame but he can’t help but feel the need to protect Dominic from the emotional turmoil in the house. Devon doesn’t know how to convince Abby that he’s trying to do what’s best for Dominic and what’s fair for him. Lily agrees he has a right to be a protective presence in Dom’s life.
Abby finds Chance on his laptop at home. He’s reading parenting articles. He’s learned a few new tricks. He tells her he was excited to go back to work and could tell she was annoyed. She corrects him. She was disheartened. He admits he was on a high, thinking of the case Rey was
talking about. He’s decided to talk to the chief and extend his time off indefinitely. Abby breathes a huge sigh of relief. She’s glad to be with him since they’ve spent so much time apart. She knows they’ll struggle with parenthood but doing it together is what matters. They kiss.
At the lounge, Billy thinks about Lily and Jack’s words of discouragement. Sally wanders in with the blonde wig and dark outfit. Billy can see it’s her, beyond her disguise and goes to her. He knows it’s Sally. Sally thinks Billy has the wrong person. He rips off her hat and she pulls the wig over her red hair and cringes, but maintains she’s not Sally. Billy has had enough and tells her, “Get up. We’re going to see your boss.”
Billy brings Sally into Adam’s office. He knows that Adam sent “double o nothing to spy on me.” Sally’s ridiculous disguise was too much. Adam calls him paranoid. Billy knows that she saw him drinking at Society. She says she couldn’t help but overhear. Billy knows that they saw, him drinking, him tripping and falling and gambling. He confesses he was stone cold sober the entire time.
He shows them receipts from all the bartenders who will tell them that he was drinking apple juice. He tells them he wasn’t falling off the wagon. He didn’t even gamble “You witnessed what you wanted to witness.” Sally tells him she’s genuinely glad he’s okay. Adam ushers Sally out the door and Adam asks what the point was of the charade.
He fed Adam the part of The Downward Spiral of Billy Abbott. He thinks Adam would have written an article about it and he’d be able to sue for defamation. He shares his whole plan but says he decided to quit. Adam admits it’s not a bad plan. Billy realized Adam’s not worth his time. “You’re really not worth anyone to anyone.”
He can’t bring Adam down further than he has already. Billy will redeem himself. He thinks it’ll haunt his arch nemesis that he could have taken him down more than if he actually had done it. He goes and Sally appears with an apology. Adam knows his act was convincing. Sally thinks the fact that Billy didn’t relapse was good news. Adam tells Sally enough with the spying. “Go do the job you were paid to do.” Sally looks down and leaves the room, silently.
Billy arrives at Victoria’s office. He admits he came clean with Adam. “I went to Adam and told him I was out. I’m done.” Victoria’s shocked. He explains he didn’t tell him about her plan to take over Newman Media, though. He says it felt good. She claps that he had a mini-moment to gloat. He says taking the high road isn’t easy.
Victoria thinks he dropped the plan because she commandeered his idea. She says this is why he’ll never have what it takes to play in the big leagues. Billy says it’s nice to know how much faith she has in him. Ashland appears.
Victoria shares what was said. Ashland’s glad to hear. Billy tells her that those who care about him and his mental health had his best interests at heart. Not those of the business. He calls her selfish and thinks her father would be proud. He goes. Victoria talks about getting her father on their side.
Devon finds Chance being silly with Dominic at Society and looks glum. He doesn’t approach him but wanders away.
Billy goes home and tells Lily that the deal is over. He admits she made him see that the plan wasn’t good for him and he told Adam everything. Lily’s proud of him. He also admits he wants to come work for her. Lily’s thrilled. They kiss.
Devon returns home to Amanda. He saw Chance and Dom. He has made up his mind to “pursue legal rights to be with my son.”
