The Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Monday, August 2, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Tuesday, August 3. In the previous episode, Tara had a meltdown as she started to realize Kyle mistrusted her. In this episode, Jack and Kyle are more certain than ever that Tara and Sally did something to make Summer leave Genoa City, Phyllis gets some proof from Eric, and Tara’s getting worried.
At the Abbott house, Kyle gets up late and has coffee while telling Jack that he couldn’t get the video of Sally and Tara out of his mind last night. They both wonder if they had something to do with getting Summer to leave town. He hates that he’s feeling this way toward Harrison’s mother. Jack thinks it’s time to confront Tara but Kyle worries she’ll take off with his son. He has no rights in the eyes of the law. They try to figure out why Tara would do any of this and Jack says, “I can only think of one reason. You.” Kyle admits there were moments when he thought she wanted to pick up with what they had. She never did anything overt, so he didn’t bring it up. “What we had was intense,” he says. He doesn’t have feelings for Tara. They go over the video and can tell without audio that there was more going on than they said. Jack doesn’t like Phyllis’ tactics but admits she was on to something. Jack wonders why Summer would leave. Kyle admits she told him she didn’t love him anymore. Jack assumes it was all she could think of to keep him from digging into the situation. She must have thought Tara would take Harrison away from him if she stayed. Kyle has a hard time wrapping his head about it so Jack says to consider it. He takes off to make a call as Kyle calls Summer. He tells her things have taken a strange turn. He loves her and asks her to call. Tara eavesdrops from the door, looking surprised.
At Crimson Lights, Sally tells someone on a call that Phyllis could ruin everything for her.

In Los Angeles, Phyllis meets with Eric Forrester and Angelina Marchetti. Eric explains that he met Phyllis when she worked on Restless Style. Phyllis lies that she had hotel business to tend to and wanted to meet the fabulous person who hired her daughter. Phyllis is shocked Sally recommended Summer for the job. She presses for information as Angelina goes to take a call. Eric admits he was surprised to hear from Sally since she doesn’t have the best track record with his family. He calls it water under the bridge and is happy she’s made changes to help her resist her worst impulses. She told him Summer was a good friend and wanted Eric to recommend her. She didn’t want credit for it and said she was happy with Lauren, which is why she didn’t go for the job herself. Phyllis explains Sally has Summer’s old job. Eric knows it was Sally’s dream job. He can tell by Phyllis’ questioning that Sally is up to something and questions what that is. Phyllis explains she thinks Sally was involved in getting Summer out of the country. “Nothing that girl surprises me,” he says. He wanted to believe she changed, but she took advantage of him. Angelina returns and Phyllis gets a selfie of the three of them and texts it to Sally. She says goodbye to Eric and Angelina and then texts jack to tell him not to do anything until she gets home. “I found out something big.”
In New York, the new chemo cocktail makes sense. Ashland knows it’s no miracle cure but it gives them more time together. He wants to savor this once-in-a-lifetime connection he’s found. Victoria smiles. He tells her about the “culinary equivalent of great sex” that she’s in for when he takes her to his favourite dive restaurant. She likes this carefree side of him. He tells her this is what she did to him. She wishes they’d have met sooner. They agree to be grateful for the time they have. Ashland has Tara to thank for setting him free. They agree they’re driven people and have a passion for achievement, though Ashland has enjoyed watching old movies with her and relaxing. They discuss a romantic trip to the French Riviera to Cote d’Azur. Nikki calls and Victoria goes to take the call. She returns and tells him about how appealing Europe sounds coming from her mother. They’ll leave after the merger. “We can make it our honeymoon.” Victoria’s mouth drops open in shock. He says, “You heard me. I have fallen in love with you, too,” he admits, stroking her face. He’s happy this is happening so fast and wants to spend every moment with her. “The woman I love.” He gets on his knee. “Victoria Newman, will you marry me?”

Nikki gets tea at the ranch and thanks Victor for the trip to Europe. She reminisces about the concert, seeing Noah and Summer. She wonders how she’ll top this for Victor’s birthday. He tells her he loves nothing more than to spend his birthday with her. She grins and Adam arrives. Nikki assumes he wants to talk business. Adam says it’s not the only reason, but there’s a lot to discuss. They tell Adam about their trip, that Noah and Summer treated them like royalty. Adam’s happy they got away and had that time together. Nikki goes to check on Victoria. Adam tells him their marketing team should have things ready by the end of the week for the launch of Newman Media. His mind is on the merger between Locke Communications and Newman Industries, “And how we make it work for us.” He wants to siphon the talent there before they become a threat to their media company. Victor doesn’t want to risk what Victoria’s accomplished. Adam can’t believe what he’s hearing. He reminds his dad that he accused him of losing his killer instinct before he went on his trip. Adam thinks he’s the one who lost his. Victor says Victoria made a gutsy move. One he’d make and it made him realize she’s a hell of a CEO. “She makes me proud.” He won’t jeopardize what she’s accomplished. Adam agrees she’s accomplished a lot but this is business. “No son, it’s not just business when your sister is involved.” Instead, Victor wants to go after Billy Boy Abbott.

Sally receives Phyllis’ text at Crimson Lights and drops her jaw in shock. Lauren appears and interrupts her. They talk business. Lauren can tell she loves what she does. Sally’s grateful for the opportunity she gave her. “It’s time to make your position permanent,” Lauren tells her. Sally’s shocked and thrilled. Lauren goes to get coffee and Sally studies the photo again.

Sally meets Tara in the park. Sally shows her the selfie Phyllis sent and Tara tells him that Kyle called and left a message for Summer about how much he loves her. “It doesn’t sound like a man who has moved on.” Sally says not to let on that this bothers her. She has to keep acting like the woman who only cares about her son. Tara worries they’ll find out about what they’ve done and they’ll try to take Harrison from her. “Kyle has it in his head that I’m materialistic.” Sally scoffs that it’s rich coming from a man who grew up in that mansion. Sally thinks it’s a shame Tara’s not like her. Tara says she’s only trying to make her son’s life the best it can be. Sally says to keep calm or it’ll blow up in her face. Tara has a hard time with that.
