This is the Canadian Y&R day ahead recap from the Tuesday, June 29, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Wednesday, June 30. In the previous episode, Chelsea accused Adam of turning Connor against her, and in this episode, Tara and Billy talk exes, Nina wants a job with Lily, and Amanda tells Sutton off.
In her office, Victoria asks if Ashland believes Tara didn’t leak the story about his imminent death. He’s not sure. She doesn’t think it matters and asks if he’ll make a statement. He’d rather not. He wants to discuss the merger. She thinks he needs a break and he follows her out.
At the Abbott’s, Tara flashes to Ash accusing her of leaking the news of his illness to the press. Jack arrives and asks how Tara’s doing after hearing about the rumor about Ashland’s illness. Tara calls it thoughtless and cruel. “People will do anything for money.” Tara says sometimes they get caught up and forget that “breaking news breaks hearts.” Jack tells her he and the other Abbotts will help her through this.
Amanda gets ready to visit Naya in jail at Devon’s.

In his office, Billy talks to a reporter about following through on their story. He disconnects and Billy tells Lily nobody can confirm if the man is dying. Lily hopes it’s not true for his sake and his son’s. Billy wonders if they’re motivated by greed or something else. He knows where to begin. He goes and Nina shows up. They talk about Devon and the surrogacy and Nina asks for a job. “Traci runs our fiction program,” she says but Nina wouldn’t mind a freelance gig. She has journalism experience and offers to send articles from Los Angeles. Lily realizes she must do research. Nina does and has a lot of consultants. Lily has something in mind and will need to run it by Billy first. Lily looks excited.
Devon meets Victor at Society. He wants to help shine a light on his label. Devon is happy to hear it but he can’t give him the exclusive. Lily’s taking that. They talk about how smart and goal-oriented Moses is and Victor’s pleased to know. They speak on how challenging Amanda’s finding her family. Victor asks for his take on Sutton. Victor sees everything Devon sees about the man, including how he’s safeguarding his reputation.

At Crimson Lights, Amanda’s on a call with someone at the jail who tells her that Sutton was with Naya and now she’s refusing to meet with her.
Victoria and Ash sit at Chancellor park. She thinks he needed time to decompress. Focus on what really matters. They head to Crimson Lights and debate sacrificing things for their merger.
Billy arrives at the mansion and talks to Jack about the rumor that Ashland is dying. Jack says this is the man’s private business, which may not even be true. He’ll look like a fool and open himself up to being sued if he prints a hoax. Jack asks why he wants to exploit other’s pain to get a few clicks. Billy tries to defend himself, stating that there are many other places that will jump at writing this. Tara appears and agrees to talk to Billy as long as he keeps Harrison’s interests in mind when he writes the story. He asks if she’s concerned about how fast Ash moved on with his ex. Neither admits to being jealous but he’s concerned. Tara thinks he’ll use her to heal his wounded ego. He goes and Jack returns and she tells him that she thinks Billy’s story will be good media coverage for her new shoe line. Jack’s surprised that they dished on their exes. Tara thinks he was concerned for Victoria’s welfare.

Amanda finds Sutton at the park. He reveals he doesn’t believe Naya’s guilty and talks about the depression she went through after she gave her babies up. Her mom took care of her but she had no therapy. There’s no record of her mental state, so Amanda finds it hard to believe she was in a bad state. Sutton realizes they should have taken her to therapy. Amanda asks how he convinced Naya to take the rap for a murder that he’s responsible for. Sutton looks taken aback and looks around. He asks her to keep her voice down. “She’s covering for you,” she accuses. Sutton is not a violent man and all his mistakes made are to protect his daughter. Amanda thinks he’s sold his soul. Sutton has heard enough out of her. He appreciates the devotion she’s showing to her mother and wants her to be Naya’s lawyer. He wants to hire her. Amanda laughs and shakes her head. “Go to hell!” She tells him.
At Crimson Lights, Billy walks in as Ashland seems to be in some discomfort. He notices and greets them. They take off and Victor appears. Billy starts in on him stepping down at work and Victor smirks. They talk about not going up against each other anymore. Victor mentions how Locke’s a man she can finally respect, unlike Billy. Billy thinks he’s pleased that Victoria found a ruthless man like himself. Victor laughs. It’s more as though the man is nothing like Billy Boy. Billy says if Ash is dying, Victoria will be hurt. Victor tells Billy to stay out of her business. He takes off as Lily walks in. Billy tells her that Victor is stopping the vendetta against ChanceComm.

Victoria and Ash go to her office. He thinks they should throw fuel on the fire and have dinner at Society, make people talk. She can’t. Her nanny has to leave early. He’ll pay her triple. Victoria wants to be with her kids so Ash says they can have dinner, but it’ll have to be in L.A., tomorrow. In Malibu. Victoria says no. L.A. isn’t her scene. He starts to cough and she hands him water. He downs it and he uses it to ask her to escort him to L.A. She refuses. She’s not even sure he’s well enough to go. “I”m not dead yet,” he says. He goes and runs into Victor. Victor tells him to be well and goes to Victoria after seeing Ash coughing. “Rumors are true. He’s dying,” Vic says.
Amanda returns to Devon’s and fills him in on what happened. She’s determined to bring Sutton down.
