Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for Monday, January 24, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Tuesday, January 25. (Recaps live by 5:45 PM EST daily.) In the previous episode, Adam grew tired of Chelsea and Sally’s feud. In this episode of CBS’ The Young and the Restless, Adam learns that his dad is entertaining thoughts off selling the company, Ashland and Michael size each other up, while Phyllis gets an earful from Michael who learns she’s considering moving to Milan.
At Newman Enterprises, Victoria boasts to Ashland about what she’s done with the financials. Adam barges in and asks if his sister really thinks she’ll get away with suing Newman Media for the name. He reminds her their father and his surnames are Newman.
She knows and thinks he should have his lawyer contact her lawyer. He wanted to hear the explanation behind it. She says they’ll rename ChancComm Newman Media and it’d be problematic having two companies with the same name. Adam thinks she’s insane. Victoria suggests he come up with a new name. “Victor and Son?”
Adam asks for a moment alone so Ashland goes to get them lunch. Adam tells her to drop the condescending tone. They both know this is a ridiculous ploy. Victoria wants all her divisions to have the Newman name. He offers up Newman Communications as an alternate name. She’s disinterested.
He’s angry that she’s trying to damage the success he earned. She snaps that Daddy gave him that company. Adam tells her she’ll lose in more ways than one.
Michael visits Victor at the ranch. He explains he’s told everyone he’s retiring as DA. He can make him self available as Victor’s counsel.
He reminds Victor that it’s not going to be 24 hours a day. Victor understands. He tells him Newman Locke filed a lawsuit against Newman Media. Michael reads through the case notes and Victor admits he admires her moxie. He admits he turned her down when she asked to buy it.
He hasn’t told Adam. Michael says there’s no merit to the lawsuit. He’d win in court. There isn’t much of a case. Victor thinks his daughter knows. Michael offers to do some digging to find out where she’s going with this, but Victor has a better plan.

Amanda says goodbye to a client as Phyllis strolls up. She tell Phyllis a dozen more clients like that one, she’ll be on solid footing. Phyllis explains that she’s been given a job offer in Milan at Marchetti and is considering taking it.
Amanda’s stricken that she’d leave her friends. Phyllis thinks the universe is offering her a new beginning. Amanda doesn’t look sold on the idea. She knows Phyllis misses Summer but it seems like an extreme reaction.
Phyllis thinks the opportunity would be “kick ass.” Some people would likely visit her there. Amanda admits she wishes she’d stay.
Phyllis cries. She and Michael and Lauren are her only friends. Amanda reminds her of Jack and Nick. “They’re not friends, they’re my ex-husbands.” Amanda knows she feels shut out of their lives.
She should consider just going on vacation or expanding her business but Phyllis says those things won’t bring her closer to Summer. Amanda understands that now that she has Imani but she’d be starting a new job in a country where she doesn’t know the language.
“Is this about Jack going radio silent?” She asks. Phyllis denies it. She feels she’s getting complacent.
She’ll let Crystal run the hotel or sell it. Then she’d have a career in Milan. Amanda asks if Jack is playing a part in this. She admits she misses how thoughtful and funny he is.
She tries to make things exciting and if she lives there, she thinks it will be exciting. It’s in marketing. Amanda’s confused. Her background is tech. Phyllis says it’s in her wheelhouse.
Amanda supports her taking a trip to Milan but not making life changes until she talks to someone who knows her better. She texts someone.
On a private call, Ashland tells someone that Victoria won’t be at this meeting. He’s spearheading this with her full support. He disconnects and Michael turns up and asks to chat.
He lets Ash know he’ll be working for Victor Newman and leaving his DA career behind. They talk about the lawsuit. Michael calls it bold.
Off the record, Michael says Newman Media doesn’t think the case has legs. Ashland says Michael certainly lives up to his reputation. Michael’s surprised he’s heard. Ashland’s heard a lot about his high points and low points, including criminal allegations. “All of which were dropped,” Michael clarifies.
He admits he isn’t the only one who has done digging into his past. He brings up that article that Billy wrote about him. They agree they’ve some things in common. They like to push boundaries, live in the grey and live for a good fight. Adam strolls up.
Victor arrives at Newman Enterprises. Victoria kisses his cheek. He told Victoria’s secretary to hold all calls and asks what the lawsuit is about.
He reminds her of who she’s dealing with. “I’m Victor Newman. I created that name. I built my empire under my name. It will always stay under my name.”
She gets it but it should be under the Newman umbrella. “The Newman/Locke umbrella?” She admits it’s about leverage but he must see the value in this. He’d benefit o f the further expansion of the communication and media properties.
Victor asks where this would leave Adam. He understands her need to consolidate the companies. Would Adam run the newly expanded company? Victoria isn’t thrilled by the idea but is open to discussing it if he’s serious.
Adam doesn’t trust her and isn’t happy about the lawsuit. She knows he’ll resent it if Victor sells to her and he’ll detest working under her. Would it be a deal breaker if he didn’t come on board for Victor?
He thinks Adam could use a dose of humility. He tells her to come up with a figure that would be pleasing to him and they’ll be in touch. He winks at her and says, “Don’t low ball me.” She’d never do that. He goes and Ashland turns up with the news that Michael’s working for Victor. They ponder how it came about. Victoria shares that Adam doesn’t even know she made a pitch for Newman Media.
Michael comes wandering in. He asks what’s going on and Amanda fills him in on his BFF wanting to l eave Genoa City. “The hell you will. If I’ve gotta stick around, so do you!”
Phyllis complains that she brought in another attorney to discuss this. Michael asks what brought on the urge to flee. She tells him about the job offer with Summer.
“You can and should say no to your daughter’s totally generous and insane offer.” This town made her who she was. He tells Amanda she came to town a dangerous woman, obsessed with Danny Romaloti. She’s had felonies.
Phyllis waves her hand at Amanda and shakes her head as if to say it’s not true. Michael tells her she stood up for what she believed in. He’s insulted for himself and Lauren that she’d consider bailing. She tells him not to take it personally.
He can’t even pretend this has any merit at all. Phyllis has no idea what to say. She turns on Amanda. She thought she was on board. Amanda scoffs. She isn’t. 
Michael doesn’t think Phyllis will last a month or a week looming over her kid. He barks at her that he needs to know she’s come to her senses so he can go. She doesn’t know if she should feel touched or annoyed that he’s so loud in her place of business.
She confesses she doesn’t like standing behind the hotel counter all the time. He tells her to make changes. She tells them she’s learned a lot of lessons from old school Phyllis. Amanda’s curious but she refuses to elucidate.
They again tell her to visit Summer for an extended stay so they’re irritated with each other. Then come home. Amanda asks if she’ll go now when Jack’s still there and Phyllis insists Jack doesn’t factor into this.
Adam goes to Victor at the ranch and asks why he didn’t share that he hired Michael Baldwin. He asks if there’s something going on that he should know about. Victor spills the tea and says Victoria offered to buy Newman Media.
Adam laughs and knows his father turned her down and that this is the reason for the lawsuit. Victor admits he’s seriously entertaining his daughter’s offer, causing Adam’s jaw to drop.
