Canadian Y&R day ahead recap for Wednesday, December 29, 2021 episode, which airs in the USA Thursday, December 30. (Recaps live by 5:45 PM EST daily.) In the previous episode, Victoria revealed her takeover plan. In this episode of CBS’ The Young and the Restless, Chelsea tries to keep Adam from Sally on New Year’s Eve, while Phyllis gets an invitation to a party, and Abby goes off the rails on Devon for wanting shared custody.
Lauren drops by The Grand Phoenix and Phyllis shares that she heard from Nick who had a great birthday in Italy. Lauren’s glad it went well and asks what Phyllis’ plans are for New Year’s. She has none but Crystal’s taking care of the festivities. Lauren invites her to her own soiree. She won’t crash their romantic meal. She learns that Chloe and Kevin will be there and isn’t happy. She’d be a fifth wheel. They talk about Lauren’s issues with Chloe and Sally.
They trash Sally a little and Lauren offers to keep the trash talk going in her ear all night. “That could be fun,” Phyllis says. She agrees to it. Lauren asks her to text Jack to see if things between them are okay. Phyllis scoffs. Lauren assumes he doesn’t know if Phyllis is fine with hearing from him. She goes and Phyllis texts Jack that she heard he was on business. She hopes it goes well and says she guesses she’ll see him in the new year.
At home, Abby feeds the baby while she flashes to Devon asking for shared custody. Chance wakes up and is surprised to see them up. They fawn over how adorable the child is. Abby says she lost sleep last night after Devon blindsided them. Abby thinks if he had asked for shared custody before, it would have changed the outcome.
Chance knows nobody could have predicted this. Abby thinks they own Devon a lot, for being the donor and loving their boy so much, as well as wanting to be a part of his life. Chance asks if that means she’ll agree to his request. Abby knows she chose Devon to care for Dom when she was away.
If he told her he was having a hard time maintaining emotions…Chance blames himself. Maybe he thought about it after he saw that he was overwhelmed. Abby thinks Devon must have an issue with her parenting. She rants about things that he witnessed, such as what happened with Stitch. Devon knew something was off. Maybe his protective instincts are better than hers. Chance tries to calm her down. He assumes her agreement was a good one. They go for a walk.
At Crimson Lights, Nate and Elena talk about their move and how they can’t wait to wake up together. They kiss. Devon appears. He offers to help Elena move. She goes to box the rest of her belongings up while Nate asks how he is doing. Devon says he’s not optimistic about shared custody. Later, when he’s out of the room, Nate and Elena discuss how Devon’s mood is melancholic. Nate feels bad that he pushed his cousin to talk to Abby about shared custody.

At Chelsea’s, Chloe tells her friend that Esther’s setting the clocks four hours ahead so the kids can ring in the new year. She invites her out with them but Chelsea might invite Adam over to watch the fireworks since she has a good view. Chloe sighs. She doesn’t think it’s a good idea.
Chelsea’s offended. She thinks they’re friends even after everything she put him through. Chloe thinks he felt guilty about her.
Chelsea thinks he cares for her and realizes Chelsea’s feelings are more than simply friendship for her ex. “I can’t help how I feel,” she admits. Chloe reminds her friend that they were toxic together. Chelsea knows but what she and Adam have is unique. Their time at Christmas showed her how good they were together.
She’s convinced Adam has changed. Chloe tries again to stop her friend from inviting Adam over. Chelsea asks if he has plans already and then jumps and thinks it must be with Sally. Chloe admits Sally said she has plans but not with who. Chelsea gets more upset. Chloe doesn’t want either woman “to get mixed up with this snake.” Chelsea doesn’t care. She decides she has plans now.
Sally finds Adam picking up dinner at Society. She asks if he’s considered her idea to hang out tonight. He tells her it depends on what she wants to do. She grins and makes a lot of suggestions. They talk about watching Hitchcock movies together and she says, “Maybe you’ll be hearing from me. Or not.” He goes.
At the office, Adam takes a call from Chelsea. She asks him to come to the penthouse, stating it’s important. He’s reluctant, but heads over.
Back at Crimson Lights, Abby and Chance greet Nate and Elena, who talk to Dominic. They discuss bonding with the boy over Thanksgiving and Devon pops up. It’s awkward so Elena and Nate take off. The baby grins when he sees Devon. Chance tells him that they haven’t made a decision yet. Devon asks them to take as much time as they want. Abby takes Devon aside privately and lets him know she and Chance have talked about the agreement.
Devon isn’t trying to rush them. She has questions. They didn’t see it coming. Neither did he. She asks if he’s angry with them but he’s not. It’s not about them or what they did. It’s about him wanting to spend time with the boy. He wants to be a support they can rely on. Abby scoffs. She asks if this is about Spain. Does he feel she abandoned her son? Devon repeats that this isn’t what it’s about. Abby knows about the conversation he had with Chance about how overwhelmed he was.
He’s not used to taking care of a baby but he’ll get used to it. She yells that he’s asking for legal rights to her son. Devon feels bad at how defensive she is about this. It wasn’t his intention to make her feel this way. He says maybe this was a bad idea. They hear the baby cry and take off into the other room. Devon tells them he’s leaving and says bye to Elena and Nate on the way out.
At Society, Kevin shows Chloe some 2020 glasses and noise makers for their party but Chloe’s too involved in Chelsea’s life to care. She rants about how Sally probably made plans with Adam for New Year’s Eve and that Chelsea wants him back. “It’s not like Chelsea has a history of overreacting when she gets jealous. Just ask Sharon.” Kevin says. Chloe sighs that Chelsea has a plan to keep Sally away from Adam. It’s making her nervous about their jobs.
She rants that Adam deserves to be alone and miserable for the rest of his life. Kevin laughs and tells her to be sure to tell Adam that. “Maybe that’s the solution,” Chloe thinks. Maybe she can convince him to distance himself from them.
Adam arrives at the penthouse. He learns Connor’s spending the night with a friend. Adam asks why she’s upset. She tells him it’s been building up and she needs to get out of there. Their relationship haunts her from every room. She talks about the past and wishes she could have convinced herself to get rid of the anger so she didn’t throw away what they had. Adam’s been there. He knows it’s easier to move out rather than live with the awful reminders.
He suggests she move out if that’s what she needs to do. He admits he’s forgiven her. They’ve suffered enough. She tears up and says what hurts more are the loving memories filled with promises they never kept. She tells him she’s thinking about the night they connected two years ago and the fireworks they shared.

Lily asks Victoria why all of a sudden she thinks she’s in charge now. Victoria says, “Because I am.”
Nick’s back from Italy. He tells Noah, Maybe there are greener pastures out there for you. Noah asks his dad, “Where would that be?” Nick tells him to come work for him.
Adam lets Chelsea know that his personal life isn’t her business anymore until it involves Connor and this isn’t like that at all. Chelsea asks if he’s falling for Sally Spectra.
