Y&R Opinion: Loving Victor Newman’s Power, Not Loving the Lack of Angst for Demanda

This week’s Young and the Restless opinion has a lot of rants and a few raves. Victor Newman is the star of the week, so we’re diving into the reasons why we love him.

Mariah’s party

The Kumbaya crew had a party for Mariah and the embryo and it was boring and the gifts were lame with the exception of the tiaras. Phyllis was the only fun part of it with her congratulations to Abby and then her ‘this never happened’ comment after. Worse, Chance finally texted just after the party. It was too coincidental. Come on! Even his text was sad. He called Abby his “life,” yet if she was indeed his “life,” he would actually be with her. Honestly, there’s zero effort put into this story and they need to just bring him back already or recast the character. Coming up Monday, Abby puts up a brave front when she takes a call from Chance and afterward, misses him more than ever. This is heartbreaking.

Highlight: Tessa serenading Mariah while her love was sick was adorable. She has such a lovely voice, too. But my gripe is that I can’t figure out how many days have passed on the show. Mariah got pregnant two days ago and now she’s got morning sickness. That means she’ll give birth in under two months.

Rey, don’t let us down man

I swear I thought Rey was on to Chelsea this week when she was able to suddenly speak full sentences. I think she saw that too which is why she kept planting seeds of doubt about Sharon. She’s good. And Rey’s vulnerable enough to buy into her machinations. I felt validated by Chloe this week when she finally told Chelsea off for using her.

Victor is the shit

When Victor visited Chelsea at home, I was freaking out. How she could sit there in that chair and not run away was beyond me. He’s the Great and Powerful Victor Newman she’s going up against. That scene was a highlight of the week for me. His lines were funny and his delivery was perfect.

Victor intimidated the hell out of Amanda when she questioned him about Richard Nealand. He shut her right down and I didn’t blame him. She went about the interview all wrong. One, why she did it at Society instead of his office was beyond me. Two, instead of making it look as though Victor was covering something up, she should have just asked if he remembered the man, before making it look as though someone at Newman was being accused of bribery and possibly murder. When you go up against Victor Newman, you should probably practice your speech in front of a mirror.

Victor’s intense scene with Rey was also well done. Rey should have gotten the search warrant to find Adam at the ranch before he arrived and basically tipped off the Newman. Victor basically laughed him out of his house. Hilarious! And then Victor summoned Victoria to the ranch to chew her out for betraying their family. I don’t blame him and I understand why she did it. So many viewers this week reminded me that Victor does everything for Adam and the other kids get strings attached when he helps them.

Apple doesn’t fall far from Victor’s tree

Faith was amazing up against Jordan this week. It seems like Jordan doesn’t get it at all. What she did to Faith wasn’t a prank. It was horrifying. And she made her apology all about her. It was pretty bad but Faith put her in her place. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Jordan. My gripe is all the dialogue. I can’t count how many times Faith apologized for what she did and how many times her parents, especially Nick, told her what she did was wrong but that they were proud of her. Talk about beating a dead horse. Don’t they understand that viewers find this bloody boring? Stop with the recycled dialogue already. We. Get. It. Drinking and driving are bad, yo.

Audience speaks:

Y&R, your audience demographic is older babes, not teenagers. Enough with the after-school PSA specials.

Skipped out on the angst

I don’t have much to say about Devon and Amanda reuniting because they were barely apart. He cheated on her and five minutes later she was like, that sucked but let’s make out. Then they full-on reunited while our backs were turned. It’s too rushed. She should have gone to a friend to discuss her issues with her family and taking on the new criminal case but instead, the show thought it was a good way for Demanda to reunite. Um…Okay? My head is still spinning. Am I alone in this? I really wanted time to root for them. And then Elena’s forgotten all about Devon and suddenly wants Nate back. Um. Are we supposed to root for them? I’m still not over the cheating!
