General Hospital recap for Tuesday, January 17, 2023. In today’s GH episode, Sonny tries to convince Nina to be optimistic, Martin threatens to let Esme go to prison, and Anna and Valentin get more information about Lucy.
We also have Monday’s GH recap where Willow was horrified that Nina’s her mother, Spencer considered a drastic legal strategy, and Nikolas considered getting rid of Esme’s memories.
In Paris, Anna is frustrated that she and Valentin may have found Victor’s stronghold but there’s no way in.
He tells her to look at the bright side: they’re in Paris together.
They kiss then look at a map while sipping wine. They strategize how to get into the building.
She feels bad about getting Lucy involved in all this. She’s also sorry he didn’t get to spend Christmas with Charlotte.
They discuss whether Laura is starting to accept him. He’s skeptical.
Antoine shows up with information for them about an American women who can never stop talking. She tried to escape by attacking someone with an ashtray.
They guess he’s describing Lucy.
After they pay off the kid and he exits, Valentin explains he was the son of one of Victor’s bodyguards.
Looking at the map again, they decide to sneak in by the catacombs. He knows someone who might know the way in. She thinks he’s amazing.
“Let’s go get Lucy out of there,” she says.
At General Hospital, Michael stands by Willow’s bedside and she worries about Wiley seeing her collapse.
He reminds her that if she accepts Nina’s bone marrow donation, she could be induced as early as tomorrow. Willow doesn’t want to do that.
She wants the baby to come when she’s ready.
“Even if it costs you your life?” he asks. She wants to wait a week or two.
He points out the transplant is less likely to work the longer she waits. He doesn’t want to imagine life without her.
Chase and Sasha find Michael in the hallway. He tells them the biggest danger Willow is facing now is herself.
Chase takes him for a walk and she goes off to visit Willow.
In her room, Willow promises her baby she will protect them as long as she can.
Sasha shows up and Willow fills her in on Nina being her birth mother. Sasha is shocked.
Willow can’t believe the most hateful, vindictive person she’s ever met is her mom. It’s horrifying to think they are related. She was better off with Harmony.
Sasha asks if she’s thinking of refusing the transplant.
Willow thinks that Nina would try to leverage it to get to the children. Nina is still the same person who has badgered and manipulated her for years.
Sasha points out she’s also the person who could save her. Willow won’t refuse just because of Nina, but she wants to wait to the last possible moment.
Michael vents to Chase about Nina and how bad a person has to be for Willow to hate them. Chase asks if she will risk her life to prove she’s not like Nina.
Michael returns to Willow’s room. She’s laughing with Sasha. Once Sasha is gone, he apologizes for arguing with her.
She apologizes for letting him think she would abandon their family and promises she doesn’t want to die. If Dr. Randolph says a delay is too risky, they can go ahead and bring the birth on early.
He’s relieved.
Down the hall, Esme asks her guard if he can keep the cuffs off her. Victor pops up and introduces himself as “uncle.” That makes her smile.
The guard wants him out but Esme suggests he could jog her memory and asks for a minute with him.
Once they are alone, Victor admits he’s not exactly her uncle but she’s carrying an heir of his family.
Her lawyer wants her to remember but she’s not sure she wants her memories back. It sounds like she did some pretty bad things. He urges her to free herself of judgement.
As he asks about her plans, Martin interrupts. He and Victor start bickering about the difficulties of getting a pregnant woman with amnesia off, especially when there is no evidence tying her to a crime.
Martin asks him into the hall and calls him an “unrepentant sociopath.” He starts venting about Lucy disappearing and that stopping him from doing his best for his clients.
Victor asks how Esme and Lucy are related. The lawyer says that if he can’t concentrate on the case, Esme will wind up in Pentonville.
Martin says the WSB will know exactly what happened to Lucy when they find her.
“If they find her,” Victor adds.
Victor steps off and calls his people in Paris, suggesting they double security since he hasn’t been able to find Nina and Valentin.

Heather sneaks in to Ryan’s room at Spring Ridge. He startles her by leaping out of his wheelchair.
She thinks he’s frisky but he’s anxious about their daughter being in custody. He wants to know why no one has died to clear their daughter.
Heather explains she doesn’t have easy access out of the institution since her favorite guard was fired for stealing.
If their daughter can’t move without police surveillance, how will he reunite with Ava?
Heather doesn’t care about that. She wants her final chance to be a mother. There’s no way they will let the cops look her away or take their grandchild away.
He points out she left her on the steps of a convent.
She’s determined to have her back in her life. “Dream big or go home,” he jokes.
Heather vows to set her daughter free if it’s the last thing she does.
Showing him the shiv she made, she explains she will break out, kill Joss, and then go on the run with Esme and the baby. He can come if he wants but she’s leaving today.
He thinks she needs to think this through. She tells him to loosen up and runs off, offering to send him a postcard.
At Sonny’s penthouse, he holds her arm as she calls, distraught to get the results from her test for the donation. Her mind is racing.
“I have another chance at being a mother!” she says, sure that she can save her life.
He tries to be positive. She paces and worries, repeating that she has a daughter and her bone marrow can save her.
She’s furious that Carly knew the truth for a year. She’ll never forgive that.
He’s mad. She’s beyond mad.
Willow’s hatred of her rips the heart out of her body. As she sobs, Sonny tells her Willow has to figure things out.
Nina never would have treated Willow the way she has if she knew she was her daughter. She worries that trying to stay in Wiley’s life may have cost her everything.
He urges her to be optimistic. Once Willow has been saved and is healthy, she will realize she deserves Nina as a mother.
He explains that Michael opened up to him a little last night. He saw the son he thought he’d lost forever. “As long as there’s life, there’s always hope,” he says.
After he gets her coffee, she tells him how much she hated her mother. She worries Willow will think she is as cruel and self-absorbed as Madeline was.
Sonny says that her mom broke her just as Deke broke him. They hurt people because they feel too much and it ends up driving people away.
They’re too much for most people but they aren’t too much for each other.
She gets a message confirming she is a potential donor match. She’s excited to run off to the hospital and get a blood test.
He offers to go with her.
