General Hospital recap for Wednesday, January 4, 2023. In today’s GH episode, Laura turns to Ava for help, Nikolas and Liz worry about getting arrested, and Nikolas admits the baby is his.
We also have Tuesday’s GH recap where Esme was rushed to the hospital, Britt was attacked, Heather is the hook, and Joss and Dex had sex.
On the Haunted Star, Obrecht notices that Britt’s dress is torn and she’s bleeding. Britt collapses. Her mom wants to call the hospital but she says it’s already too late.
Liesl says it’s only a scratch and Britt insists she only slipped and drank too much.
She asks her mom for another toast. As Britt coughs, he mom toasts to more nights like this.
They’ve both been thinking about how much time they have wasted. Obrecht regrets not being more affectionate and robbing them both of what they could have had.
Britt starts coughing up blood. Obrecht realizes something serious happened.
She calls for an ambulance. Her daughter says she wanted more time and didn’t want to die alone.
When Obrecht wants to take her to the hospital, Britt says they won’t make it. She was poisoned by the hook and can’t be saved.
Coughing, Britt tells her mom she’s glad she came back to be with her at the end.
“Hold me like you wanted to hold Nathan,” she says.
They weep as Obrecht holds her tight. She tells her daughter how smart and brave she was a child. She wishes she’d kissed her more and rocked her to sleep.
Britt dies.
“Mama loves you,” Liesl cries.
Scott drops by Kelly’s and asks Cam why he isn’t ringing in the new year with his girlfriend.
Cam gets him a brownie. Scott is waiting for his “schnitzel” to join him. He encourages him to squeeze more fun into his life.
Cam tells him how busy he and Joss have been and how little they’ve seen of each other.
Joss and Dex just had sex on his couch. He asks how she is after almost getting killed earlier.
She feels uneasy but safe with him. This wasn’t her plan. She’ll never be okay with him working for Sonny. Cam sends her a text, asking to meet.
Once she gets dressed, she says she owes Cam the truth for the new year. She’s about to break his heart.
Dex insists on going along to make sure the killer is kept away.
When they arrive outside of Kelly’s, Dex offers to stay outside and keep guard.
Joss goes inside and corners Cam as he’s about to leave. They need to talk.
Scott exits and they sit down. She’s in tears and doesn’t want to do this.
She explains things have changed between them and she can’t ignore it anymore.
They’ve been growing apart and her feelings have changed. She kept telling herself they could recapture what they had, but things aren’t working.
She thought sex would fix things but it didn’t.
He wants to talk about how they can get back to where they were but she insists they can’t.
Cam realizes this is final and she’s breaking up with him. He feels like an idiot for not seeing how miserable she is.
Sobbing, she apologizes. She should have come to him sooner.
When he asks if she still loves him, she says she always will but she’s not in love with him anymore.
With tears running down his cheeks, he tells her they can’t be friends after this. He’s still in love with her and can’t go back.
After blaming himself for making this harder than it already is, he asks her to go.
She leaves him in tears and goes out to Dex.

At General Hospital, Dante wakes Esme up and asks what happened to her. He explains she had hypothermia and asks where she’s been hiding for six months.
The cop keeps grilling her as she shivers.
TJ arrives and orders an ultrasound. Esme is shocked to hear she’s pregnant.
The doctor says it’s normal to confused after trauma. She doesn’t know her name.
Spencer takes his father aside and demands to know if his ex-girlfriend is carrying his kid.
Nikolas tells him to keep his voice done. His son is sure Esme will blow him out of the water.
The prince walks off to worry with Liz. She wonders if she should call her kids to warn them she’s about to be arrested.
He walks off to make a call.
Spencer sits down with Trina and she asks him what he was speaking to his father about. He downplays it and points out their plan to lure out the hook worked.
Trina is not convinced it did. Esme may not be the hook at all.
Dante comes out and announces that Esme is awake but claims she can’t remember anything.
Spencer assumes that’s a lie.
Liz tells Nikolas that Esme is claiming not to remember anything. As they worry about all the evidence left in the tower, Laura interrupts.
They cover.
Laura wonders why they are there and had no idea they knew Esme so well.
They claim they just want to see her pay for what she’s done.
Back in Esme’s room, she tells TJ how scared she is.
Laura stops by Nina’s place to see Ava. She’s worried about Nikolas and looking for a way to help. She asks what Victor has on her son.
Ava flashes back to knocking Esme off the parapet and then claims not to know what is going on.
Laura blames herself for some of what went wrong. Ava assures her Nikolas is to blame for everything.
They both thought that he would be a better man with Ava, but it turns out that was naive.
Drinking tea, they recall how horrified Laura was to have her as a daughter-in-law. Ava wishes she could have been the kind of mother she is and beats herself up about Kiki.
Laura tells her she’s a great mother to Avery and Ava thanks her for always being so kind to her.
She feels like such a failure. Laura tells her divorce feels like death.
“Vodka helps,” Ava says, but she’s still mad as hell at Nikolas.
Laura knows she owes him nothing, but if she thinks of something that could help, she’d like to hear it.
Nikolas calls to say Esme is at GH. They need to get their stories straight.
At General Hospital, Spencer corners Dante and asks him to tell him he doesn’t believe Esme has lost her memory.
Ava shows up and Trina wonders why she’s bothered when she doesn’t think Esme is the hook.
Ava is shocked when Trina explains that Esme is pregnant. She realizes that Spencer is not the father.
They head over to Dante and demand some information. The cop can’t tell them anything. She yells that Esme is a conniving liar.
The cop understands why everyone is concerned but he has no answers.
Nikolas asks Ava to step aside to talk. She demands to know if the baby is his. Laura’s jaw drops. He confirms it and she slaps him.
Scott arrives at the hospital and finds Liesl staring int space. She tells him she’s alone.
“My little girl is gone,” she tells him.
As she goes in to see Britt’s body, he calls Nina with the news.
Obrecht tells her daughter that she can’t fathom a world without her. Their time together was too short but she is so proud to have been her mother.
Asking her to give Nathan a message, she whispers in her ear and kisses her head.
