Young and Restless’ Doug Davidson Complains of Being Treated as a Day Player

Y&R’s veteran actor complains again of issues with his job.

This isn’t the first time Y&R vet Doug Davidson has complained about not being treated the way he’d like by the powers that be at Young and the Restless. He posted on Twitter, “I just want to thank you again for all your support. But I think I am done. After 43 years I am treated like a day player. No bueno.”

This isn’t the first time the actor had complained publically about his lack of airtime on the show. In January 2020, he did an interview with Daily Soap Dish where he opened up about his status on the show. He was taken off-contract around the same time that Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) came on the scene as a detective.  It does appear as though his status with the show has not changed, or rather that it has been “recurring.”

About that change, the actor stated, “One thing led to another and pretty much, you are driven down to nothing in terms of screen time and people begin to notice. I think the flashpoint was when they put Rey in my chair in my office and I don’t think I had been on since. This would have been September and I think my last episode was taped somewhere in mid-to-late July, so it had been awhile. Because being on the show was such a constant, it was more of personal suffering for me because I had known nothing other than The Young and the Restless professionally for pretty much my entire adult life.”

Again, back in September of 2018, Davidson responded to one of his fans that he thought the show had let him go. The fan asked, “They haven’t let you go have they??” The actor who has been a part of the CBS soap since 1978 replied, “It seems so.”

But since, the actor has been to work.

About what he thought were his final days on the show, the actor stated, “Honestly, it was a great run. I’ll miss you too. It does hurt, to be honest.” He alleged that the show was going “in another direction,” one that he was not included in.

But then again, the actor was seen on canvas. In fact, he was seen on November 19, 2020 in Billy’s office on the show. Is the actor merely recurring, meaning that he can be used as little or as much as the show wants, or is he truly done this time?

It’s obvious that the actor wants more time on canvas but he told another fan, “I am tired of fighting for the obvious.”
