Days of our Lives recap for Monday, December 12, 2022.
In today’s Days episode, Gwen was in the right place at the right time to stop Bonnie from calling the cops on Xander, Chad wrestles with his jealousy of Alex and Stephanie’s relationship, and Leo and Sonny share an impromptu dinner that ended with hand-holding.
In the last Days recap, Bonnie’s meltdown led her to realize Xander was her kidnapper, Chad talked to Sonny about his feelings for Stephanie, who got romantic with Alex.
Leo and Sonny sit at a bistro table in Horton Square, with Leo digging in to the nachos Chad left behind. Leo can’t believe that Chad likes habanero salsa.
“Surprising, given his otherwise vanilla lifestyle,” Leo says. “Maybe he’s more interesting than I give him credit for.”
Sonny says he’ll be sure to let Chad know that Leo approves. He asks Leo how the job search is going, but Leo has nothing good to report.
Sonny gives Leo a pep talk and encourages him to keep looking. Leo admits that he’s an “acquired taste.”
Sonny suggests that Leo create his own job by finding a niche and filling it — come up with a unique way to present himself as an asset that will make it impossible for anyone to say no to.
Leo tells Sonny he’s pitched himself to Gwen as a gossip columnist for The Spectator, but he’s not sure that Jack will go for it.
Sonny knows his Uncle Jack has very high standards when it comes to his newspaper. He suggests Leo tone down his humor if he talks to Jack about the column idea.
Sonny admits he thinks Leo is funny when he’s not “pushing for laughs.” Leo tells him about the time he tried doing stand-up comedy. It didn’t go well.
“I never should have trotted out my Miss Piggy impression,” Leo observes. “That’s where things really went south.”
Sonny tells Leo to focus on his gossip column idea. He thinks it would work for The Spectator.
Sonny admits that he has a weakness for celebrity gossip – of a certain kind. It can be juicy, but it can’t be mean-spirited. He thinks Leo should take that to heart.
Sonny reminds Leo of the phony story he leaked about Chad. Leo admits he did a lot of mean things to people after he lost Craig. He was lashing out at the people he blamed.
Leo apologizes again for the awful things he did to Sonny. He takes Sonny’s hand.
Chad and Stephanie eat bowls of pho Stephanie made herself in the Johnson living room. Chad compliments her cooking skills.
Stephanie tells him she made it for the romantic date with Alex she had planned. Chad’s sorry she had to waste it on him instead.
Chad says he enjoyed the pho, but it’s time to get to the work part of this working dinner. Stephanie is not excited to write a press statement for Paulina to announce she’s stepping down as governor.
Chad thinks maybe Paulina will change her mind, but Stephanie says she sounded determined. It’s Paulina’s choice and they must respect it.
Stephanie thinks it’s the end of the road for Paulina.
“And for us, too,” Chad says.
Stephanie points out she has plenty of other clients, but Chad reminds her he signed on as a consultant for Paulina’s campaign. His work is done when Paulina steps down.
Stephanie wants him to stay on to work on other projects, but Chad doesn’t think it’s a good idea.
She asks why and Chad admits it’s because of Alex. Chad flashes back to his earlier conversation with Sonny in which he admitted that he’s jealous that Alex is with Stephanie.
Chad stammers through a lie to Stephanie that he thinks them working together would cause problems with her and Alex.
Stephanie tells him she and Alex both know Chad is still mourning Abigail and isn’t ready for a relationship. Alex won’t be threatened by Chad working for Stephanie.
Stephanie asks if there’s some other reason why Chad doesn’t want to work with her.
Chad takes a thoughtful pause before denying it. He’s glad she wants to continue their professional relationship.
Stephanie suggests they get down to business and start working on Paulina’s statement, but first, they toast the future of them working together.
In the Kiriakis living room, Maggie tells Justin and Alex that Bonnie left the Brady Pub on her own for a walk. Justin is surprised his wife went out at such a late hour.
Maggie tells them about the incident at the Brady Pub, when Bonnie freaked out and said she saw the person who attacked her.
Justin can’t believe that Bonnie accused Roman of being the kidnapper and clocked the retired cop with a serving tray.
Maggie adds that Sarah thinks Bonnie suffers from PTSD because of her kidnapping ordeal.
Justin can’t believe Maggie let Bonnie go off on her own in that state. He’s determined to find his wife.
Justin leaves a voicemail for Bonnie asking her to call him. He thinks Bonnie may still be somewhere downtown, so he’s going to look for her. Alex volunteers to go along.
Bonnie has just run into Xander at the park and accused him of being Mr. Clown the kidnapper.
Xander plays innocent but Bonnie’s not having it.
“You’re the sicko who kidnapped me, Xander Cook!” Bonnie says. “You’re that musclebound clown!”
Bonnie overheard Xander saying this situation could destroy his life, which she also heard Mr. Clown say, except “not in an Irish accent.”
Xander points out that he’s Scottish, which Bonnie thinks is the same thing. Regardless, she is sure that Xander is the kidnapper.
“Damn it!” Xander says. “Would you keep your voice down!”
Bonnie has a flashback to Mr. Clown saying the same thing and says so.
Xander counters with some gaslighting to try and convince Bonnie she’s making a big deal out of common statements that people make.
But when Bonnie brings up Mimi, she remembers Mr. Clown knew who Mimi was. Xander says lots of men know who Mimi is – hundreds, maybe thousands.
After accusing him of calling Mimi a tramp, Bonnie points out that Xander and the kidnapper has the same musclebound build.
Xander keeps trying to gaslight her, but Bonnie tells him to tell the judge and pulls out her phone. She’s calling the cops!
Xander begs her not to make the call. He tells her they’ll just think she’s crazy. They argue until her phone rings.
It’s Justin calling and Bonnie says she’s going to tell him everything.
Just then, Gwen walks into the scene and smashes Bonnie in the head with rock.
Bonnie falls to the ground unconscious. Xander checks her and says she’s out cold but alive.
Gwen demands some thanks for saving Xander’s hide, but he thinks she’s just delayed the inevitable.
When Bonnie wakes up, she’ll tell everyone about Xander being Mr. Clown.
Gwen asks if they could ship Bonnie off to the DiMera island where Sarah was held by Kristen. Xander pooh-poohs that idea.
Xander thinks he’s finished, but Gwen has another idea.

Sarah opens the door of her motel room to find Jack. He’s just dropped by to see Xander.
Sarah tells him Xander just went out for a run. She doesn’t think that Xander will be gone for long, so Jack is welcome to wait.
Jack says he put in an order at the Brady Pub, so he can’t stay long. He just wanted to see how Xander was doing with the new job.
Sarah gives Jack the story of how Xander quit and why.
Jack is sorry to hear that Xander lost his job but glad to know that his friend has the ethics to stand his ground. He wishes he could give him a job at The Spectator.
Sarah tells Jack she knows that Jack doesn’t want him working with Gwen. She asks if Jack thinks Gwen still has feelings for Xander.
Jack isn’t sure but he’s hoping that her work at The Spectator is her focus now. Sarah tells him how Gwen offered to write an article about Rednax.
Sarah tells Jack she wasn’t sure it was all just a ploy for Gwen to get close to Xander.
Jack assures her Gwen knows Xander is committed to Sarah. He asks if Xander is looking for another job.
Sarah says he is but she’s worried he might be discouraged by his experience at Rednax.
Before he leaves, Jack and Sarah talk about Bonnie’s kidnapping ordeal. Jack says he’s been keeping tabs on the police investigation, but they haven’t found whoever Ava’s accomplice was.
Jack hopes they’ll find Mr. Clown soon and bring Bonnie some peace of mind.
Alex walks into Horton Square to find Sonny and Leo holding hands on the table. He notices the close moment between his brother and his not-so-secret-admirer.
Alex fills them in on Bonnie’s disappearance. Sonny asks what he can do to help.
Alex wonders if he’s interrupting his brother’s dinner plans, but Sonny assures Alex that he and Leo just ran into each other.
“It was more like kismet,” Leo says.
Justin walks through the park shouting Bonnie’s name. When he looks down, he finds his wife’s red scarf lying on the ground.
He calls Alex and tells him about the scarf. Justin asks Alex to meet him at the park and Sonny leaves Horton Square with him, leaving Leo to think about his Lady Whistleblower column.
Alex and Sonny meet up with Justin at the park. Justin fills Sonny in on Bonnie seeing things, like people wearing clown masks.
Sonny wonders if Bonnie might have had a hallucination in the park and run off.
Xander and Gwen talk about their new plan for Bonnie in a brick-walled hallway. He holds a rope.
Xander tells Gwen he needs her to do something for him. He needs her to hit him as hard as he can.
Gwen doesn’t want to do it, but Xander convinces her to pop him one by reminding her he chose Sarah over her.
BAM! The musclebound clown goes down.
Later, Gwen comes out of the door alone and calls Leo. She has a job for him.
“Color me intrigued,” Leo says. “What’s the job?”
Gwen reminds him she has a secret with Xander. Now she’s going to tell Leo what it is.
Alex, Justin and Sonny return to the Kiriakis living room. Maggie asks if they found Bonnie.
A very worried Justin thinks it’s time to call the police.
Sarah is alone in the motel room and looks at Xander’s note again. She thinks this was a long run in the park, even for him.
Sarah tries calling her husband, but it goes straight to voicemail.
At some mysterious location, Bonnie comes to. She’s tied to a chair again and panics.
When she looks to the side, she sees that Xander is out could and tied up to a chair, too.
