Days of our Lives recap for Monday, November 28, 2022.
In today’s Days episode, an alive Ava surprises EJ at the crash site and pulls a gun on him, Gwen’s phony website fools Sarah and saves Xander, while Alex and Stephanie agree to keep quiet about Sarah’s suspicions that Xander is the kidnapper.
In the last Days recap, Rafe comforts EJ, Jada flies off the handle at Nicole, Xander gets counsel from Gwen, and Sarah asks Xander what he’s done.
Gwen sits at a desk in the Horton living room, typing on her computer, when Jack walks in with his luggage.
Gwen doesn’t notice her father at first and jumps when he calls her name. She slams her laptop closed.
Jack tells her that Mike Horton and Nancy Miller had Jack, Jennifer, Chad and the kids over for Thanksgiving dinner. Mike and Nancy are seeing each other now.
Is that a good thing, Gwen wants to know. Jack answers that Mike is certainly a step up from Clyde Weston.
Jack confesses that he’s come home early to get back to work at The Spectator.
Jack asks what Gwen was working on when he walked in. He noticed that she closed her laptop when he walked in as if she didn’t want him to see what she was writing.
Gwen fills Jack in on her work covering the Chanel Dupree murder arrest. He points out that every major national news organization is already covering this story.
Gwen mistakenly thinks Jack’s telling her to drop her story, but he’s not. In fact, Jack is thrilled that Gwen has used her inside access to scoop every other reporter.
Gwen points out that she’s “hardly a seasoned reporter” and Jack correctly guesses that’s why she closed her laptop so quickly – she’s doubting her abilities to write a good story.
Gwen goes on to say that Chad doesn’t want her to write about Paulina and Chanel.
Jack is incensed and tells Gwen that Chad has no business telling her what to write, but Gwen admits that she already told Chad she wouldn’t do the story.
Gwen tells Jack about her “dodgy ex-lawyer” Sloane Peterson being her primary source, which is why Chad convinced her to kill the story.
Chad told Gwen that if any of Sloane’s evidence is off, The Spectator could be sued for libel and put out of business, so Gwen is trying to verify all the evidence.
Gwen doesn’t want to miss out on an exclusive story, but she also doesn’t want to put her byline on a story that could be based on lies.
Jack tells her that the public has a right to know this story and Chad is biased since he’s working for Paulina’s PR team.
Jack encourages Gwen to use her best judgement. He believes in her skills as a reporter.
Now he’s really glad he didn’t give Xander a job, Jack says. Gwen is surprised and asks what that means.
Jack tells her that Xander asked him for a job at The Spectator when Gwen was in the hospital, but Jack turned him down.
Jack knew how Gwen felt about Xander and didn’t think it was a good idea for them to work together.
Gwen admits that she and Xander have been “bumping into each other.” She thinks that she and her ex can be friends, but Jack is doubtful that she’s telling the whole truth.
He reminds Gwen that Xander is married to Sarah. He doesn’t want to see Gwen hurt again.
Gwen assures her father that she knows that Xander doesn’t love her. Jack is glad that she and Xander are in a good place, but he looks doubtful.
“I’m proud of you,” Jack says, which brings Gwen to tears.
Jack suggests that he and Gwen review her story and Sloane’s evidence. But it’s still Thanksgiving, Gwen points out.
Jack says that it would feel good to be advising a daughter of his again. He goes on to say that he wants Gwen to call him Dad.
Gwen asks how she can ever repay him for his kindness.
“Make me a turkey sandwich,” Jack says and takes his suitcase upstairs.
Xander and Sarah are having a heated discussion in their motel room. She’s asked him if he’s the Mr. Clown who kidnapped Susan and Bonnie.
Xander stalls by repeating Sarah’s question, but she’s not backing down. She tells her husband that she knows him and knows he’s holding something back.
Xander spins a new lie about his boss at Rednax bringing a new painkiller to market and wanting him to lie about it being non-addictive.
Sarah is concerned as a doctor about this drug being on the market and insists that Rednax be stopped. Xander cautions her that his boss is a dangerous woman who doesn’t like to be crossed.
“That sounds like Ava Vitali,” Sarah says.
Xander acts peeved that his wife is suggesting he would work for the likes of Ava.
He’s hurt that Sarah is suggesting he got involved in illegal dealings again, but Sarah insists that he show her proof that Rednax exists.
Sarah pulls out her laptop and starts searching.
She and Xander are both surprised when she finds the Rednax corporate website.
Sarah immediately backs down and apologizes for doubting him. She asks for Xander’s forgiveness.
Xander plays the understanding and forgiving husband, telling Sarah that she had plenty of reasons to be suspicious of him.
He suggests that they dig into the Thanksgiving leftovers that Maggie brought over. They embrace, but Xander looks worried.
Sarah digs into the bag of leftovers and finds a bottle of good wine. Xander leaves the room to fill the ice bucket.
Out in the hallway, Xander calls Gwen to tell her about Sarah accusing him of being Mr. Clown.
Xander tells Gwen about Sarah finding the Rednax website. Gwen shocks him by saying that she built the Rednax site and put it online.
Xander doesn’t know how to thank her, but Gwen says that’s what friends are for.
Tony stands alone in the DiMera living room. He’s on his cell phone, leaving a message for EJ and asking his brother to call him back.
“I’m just worried about you,” Tony says. “I hope you don’t do anything reckless.”
Tony hears someone come into the mansion and hangs up, thinking it’s EJ but it’s Chad.
Tony tells him that he’s worried about EJ.
While he prepares a drink for his little brother, Tony asks Chad why he’s home early.
Chad tells Tony that the kids are still with Jennifer in New York City, but he came home early to check on EJ.
Chad clearly doesn’t know the whole story, so Tony spills the tea on everything that went on with EJ and Ava, including Tripp’s kidnapping.
Chad is outraged, while Tony tries to explain EJ’s reasoning – he just wanted leverage to make sure that Susan would be returned alive.
Chad admits that makes sense. Tony brings up Chad’s professional relationship with Stephanie and asks him to promise he won’t tell her anything about EJ kidnapping Tripp.
Chad is annoyed that Tony thinks he would rat out his own brother, but Tony reminds Chad of his complicated history to EJ and Abigail.
Chad reminds Tony that EJ saved his life when Clyde Weston tried to kill him. He’s not going to betray his brother now. He agrees not to say anything to Stephanie.
The brothers DiMera go to leave and find EJ, but Tony’s phone rings.
It’s Rafe, who tells Tony that EJ is drowning his sorrows at the crash site.
Tony thanks him and hangs up. He and Chad leave the mansion.
EJ is at the site of Ava’s car crash and he’s had a lot to drink. He hears someone walking near and calls out to his mother in hope.
“It’s not your mother, you dumb cluck,” Ava answers as she emerges from the shadows.
EJ is shocked. He wonders if he’s so drunk that he’s hallucinating.
“Of course I’m here,” Ava says with a sneer. “Did you think you could get rid of me that easily?”
After EJ tells her that the petrol tank exploded and no one could have made it out of the burning car alive, Ava says that she must be dead – and then pulls a gun on him.
She tells him that he’s the reason all this tragedy happened.
EJ could have just paid the ransom and got Susan back, but instead EJ decided to prove that he was better and smarter than Ava.
She gloats that Tripp is alive and well, while whatever is left of Susan is down at the bottom of the embankment.
EJ tells Ava that he doesn’t have a conscience to be guilty, so Ava must be real and alive. If Ava is alive, could his mother be, too?
No, Ava says. Susan is definitely dead. Ava admits that she purposely drove the car off the road to kill Susan and get even with EJ.
“We both know the $30 million didn’t mean anything to you,” Ava says. “I wanted to cause you the maximum amount of pain and suffering.”
Ava tells EJ he can search all he wants but he’ll never find anything of Susan.
She tells him that she jumped out of the car before it went over the embankment – and that Susan was definitely in the car when it went down.
“Your mummy is dead,” Ava taunts EJ. “And now it’s your turn.”
EJ suddenly lunges forward and wrestles Ava for the gun!

Alex and Stephanie make out in the Kiriakis living room after having their romantic Thanksgiving leftovers dinner.
Alex makes a not-subtle suggestion that there are other rooms in the mansion, some of which have beds. Stephanie laughs and puts him off.
Maggie walks in and surprises them.
The three talk about what happened with Ava and how hard it must have been for Tripp to be Ava’s son. Stephanie wonders if Ava drove her car off the embankment on purpose.
Stephanie is grateful that Tripp and Bonnie are both okay. Alex says everyone will be okay when Mr. Clown is caught.
Maggie has a look on her face and Alex asks his aunt what’s going on. Maggie swears them to secrecy and tells them about Sarah’s theory that Xander is the kidnapper.
Maggie insists they keep this to themselves. She doesn’t want Victor to find out about Sarah’s suspicions.
Maggie doesn’t think that Xander would risk his marriage after everything that he and Sarah have been through.
Alex and Stephanie agree to keep mum and Maggie leaves the room to find Victor.
Alex starts putting the moves on Stephanie again, but she tells him to slow down. She wants to take things one step at a time.
Alex doesn’t like the sound of that until Stephanie says that there will be a next date.
Alex plays the gentleman and walks Stephanie out.
EJ is unconscious and alone at the crash site, laying with his bleeding head against a boulder.
Chad walks into the site and calls for Tony. He rouses EJ.
Tony enters and picks up the empty flask that EJ threw down earlier.
EJ immediately starts telling his brothers about Ava being alive and pulling a gun on him, but Chad and Tony clearly think that this is all drunken hallucinations on EJ’s part.
EJ insists that Ava is alive but Tony wonders why she came to kill him and didn’t.
Chad tells EJ that he needs to get to the hospital, but EJ continues to resist and demands that they find Ava.
Chad and Tony clearly think that EJ imagined the entire scene with Ava.
As the brothers hustle EJ to the car, the camera pans to a spent bullet casing lying on the ground.
