Watch Days’ Alum Steve Blackwood Shines in Brilliant and Hilarious Short Film

Funny and tender — must see.

Singer, actor and director, Steve Blackwood played Days of our Lives’ lovably comical henchman, Bart Beiderbecke from 1997 to 2007 off and on. Sadly, Bart’s time was up when he was caught between Andre and Tony DiMera’s (Thaao Penghlis) sword fight and died.

Since his role on Days, Blackwood has kept busy teaching private and public acting classes and has been working on his music. Blackwood is a talented jazz singer and pianist. His style mixes “the Great American Songbook/Sinatra genre with a unique straight ahead jazz sensibility,” according to his website. It’s worth giving it a listen.

The film showcases Blackwood’s music, in addition to his many other talents. The story is written by David Susman and was adapted for the screen by Blackwood.

The film opens to a gorgeous aerial view of New England and gives way to a bookstore where Blackwood as his character, Marvin Bregman is holding a book signing event. Marvin is a best-selling author he refers to as a midlist writer. The catch – the only two people there are his assistant Marnie (Pamela Jayne Morgan), and the bookstore owner, played by Marty Smith. Marvin fantasizes about how he’d like the event to go which includes a mass of adoring female fans, and when a fan finally does show up, she has mixed emotions about him as he does about her.
