What Restructuring & Layoffs at NBCU Could Mean for Days of our Lives

Mass layoffs and restructuring shake things up at Days of our Lives.

Due to the reorganization of their content team at NBCU Deadline is reporting that one of the two executives leaving Days of our Lives includes Bruce Evans, EVP, of Current Programming at the soap.

Current programming is being merged with development and comedy development, which will be headed by Jeff Meyerson.

Evans, who has been with NBC for 20 years and who has been in charge of programming at Days of our Lives since December 2017 was an advocate for keeping the show on the air. When he replaced Vernon Sanders, he was seen as “the natural successor as head of our current business,” by Entertainment President, Jennifer Salke. In fact, Stalke stated, “His remarkable skill set shines through in managing many of our biggest shows and I’m thrilled we’ll be able to work even more closely together moving forward.”

What could this change mean for Days of our Lives? Restructuring is usually done in an attempt to make a company become more profitable. In this case, there will be a merging of departments, and Soaps Spoilers has learned that Cara Dellaverson and Alex Sepiol will co-lead drama development and current across NBCU’s portfolio. It should be business as usual for though the show, now in its 56th season, barring any more unforeseen changes ahead.

Days was renewed for 2019-2020 in January of 2020 and there should be news of a renewal hopefully soon.
